Common Questions and Answers about Use of prevacid in infants

prevacid

Avatar f tn My 6month old was prescribed .25mg of Prevacid because of GERD symptoms. The pharmacy wouldn't fill it until speaking with the doctor. I'm just wondering if anyone has an infant/child that was given the same thing? He's not losing weight but he has trouble sleeping at night and he spits up way too much and I've alread changed his formula 3 times. He sleeps better when propped up but putting the pillow under the mattress isnt enough.
Avatar m tn t know about the Prevacid, but you should have your testosterone checked. My husband fell in his early fifties, was a body builder and avid runner. When he fell he broke his back in 2 places. He was diagnosed with Osteoporosis, they started him on Testosterone shots (his was low), and within a fairly short amount of time, his bones were strong again. He has to take the shots for the rest of his life.
Avatar m tn She was prescribed Prevacid three weeks ago as she was still irritable after 4-6 weeks of Zantac. After she started Prevacid she was less irritable but developed side-effects including giving up napping during the day and green, mucus-like foul smelling stool (started this week). Oh yeah, she also has a milk protein based sensitivity. My wife is still nursing but has given up all dairy and dairy-like foods. Any help as to what this may mean or if this is serious?

Avatar n tn Esophageal clearance is similar in infants and adults, although evidence of reduced peristaltic [the motion of the esophagus and intestine that moves the food through them] activity in preterm infants has been reported. [The article mentions that an Anatomic factor that contributes to GER is:] The angle of His (made by the esophagus and the axis of the stomach) is obtuse in newborns but decreases as infants develop. This ensures a more effective barrier against GER.
Avatar m tn Some conditions are treated with a combination of Prevacid and antibiotics. Use all medications as directed by your doctor. Read the medication guide or patient instructions provided with each medication. Do not change your doses or medication schedule without your doctor's advice.
Avatar f tn I used ibuprofen pretty often each day for about two weeks for severe pain in my hand and finger joints. I began to have chronic nausea, got off the ibuprofen, started taking Prevacid and Pepcid Complete, then Reglan per doctor's prescription. Bad side effects from Reglan--irritability, dizziness, depression, sleepiness. Got off of it. After about 4 weeks, I still have some nausea and only want to eat starches and sugars. Had gallbladder removed 6 months ago.
Avatar n tn Is there warning signs of autism in a 5 month old or is this way too early to tell?
1330108 tn?1333677304 Ellie is on Zantac which seems to be helpful but she also is in our room to sleep because of fear of choking on spit up. Right now she sleeps in a pack and play with the bassinet attachment and we have towels under one side under the matress to prop it up a bit to let gravity help keep food down. I'm excited to look at the rocker you mentioned.
Avatar n tn I posted her in 2008. I've learned a lot since. I think Prevacid is a PPI. Ask your pharmacist. PPI's inhibit the absorbtion of calcium. I asked my gastrointerologist and he said "yes it does". I read that people who take PPI's for a long time, should take small breaks of treatment so they can absorb calcium. I'm NOT telling anyone to do this-follow your doctor's advise. I also had my Vit.D checked and it was extremely low.
Avatar m tn Long term use of ne med will have an effect on our bodies....but in order to help heal the erosion of ur esophagus u will need to take it, but ur Dr should be monitoring u and ur blood labs to make sure u have supplements like Vit D. Once u wean off these meds and it should be a slow removal as u can experience rebound if u get off too quickly.
Avatar f tn my daughter is 3 months old ,she has been passing mucus in stools for about 4 weeks now and some times there are spots of blood in the mucus ,I took her to the doc but not found the cause yet
Avatar f tn It will remain in baby's system. Especially if you took them for more than 2 weeks. You need to let your OB know even if it leaves both systems because if you we're abusing them and taking them for a long period of time we can't diagnose the outcome. No judgement, but please for the sake of your innocent baby tell your Dr. You made the right decision to stop taking them. Best wishes!
Avatar f tn The dr yesterday put me on nexium for 5 days then will start 30 mg of prevacid which has not helped in the past. I really appreciate any suggestions as I really do not care to have a 4th stay in the hospital this year. Thanks...
1176471 tn?1263733305 I would suggest when you start adding some of these foods back into your diet, add them one at a time and slowly (at least a couple of days in between adding a new item) - that way you will be able to have a better idea if that certain food is a culprit.
Avatar n tn What are the dangers of long term, continuous use of acid reflux control medications such as Prevacid and Prilosec OTC?
Avatar m tn I will keep this post updated until I found out whats going on with me and if Prevacid really could cause those symptoms. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this.
Avatar n tn My son didn't even notice it. Just keep the front of his diaper rubbed down with a lot of Vaseline. Him being that young I would ask your pediatrition instead of us. We wouldn't be able to tell you the dosage and what not. I don't believe babies that young are suppose to take anything though. I know it's hard looking at their little weenis like that though.
1361044 tn?1277598308 We took her to the ER, we sat for 8 hours, they almost sent us home, and right as we were leaving she did it in front of the nurse, and the nurse was like- you are right- that is not ok, A week later she had surgery for severe reflux, come to find out over 50% of her formula was being inhaled into her lungs. She went blue on me at one point and I told the doctor he must do the surgery. Had I not pushed for her, she probably would have died in her sleep at some point.
Avatar f tn I feel Gerd and milk allergy are grossly overdiagnosed in infants. Lactose overload has been diagnosed in breast-fed infants now - and I believe it is also found in babies.
Avatar n tn i take prevacid for my gerd, can this cause atrial fibrillation This discussion is related to acid reflux.
290867 tn?1333569278 the doctor also suggested a small amount of cereal or oatmela depending on whether the baby is pooping ok or constipated because the thincker the forumla, the more ability they have to hold it down. you can look up GERD and acid reflux in infants and many of them talk about a very small amoutn of cereal.
Avatar m tn A few days back I noticed his lower jaw quivering when he was feeding from bottle. It is not continuous, only in the time of relaxing after sucking. It is not seen otherwise. Is this normal. He also shows jerking movements while in sleep.
1507909 tn?1313633804 Motrin contains ibuprofen, which can cause reyes syndrome in infants. My daughters pediatrician told me to use infants tylenol our an off brand containing acetaminophen. I would discontinue the motrin and get some infants acetaminophen.
