Common Questions and Answers about Use of nitrofurantoin in pregnancy

macrobid

Avatar m tn The only antibiotic I can see here is the nitrofurantoin (Uribid with nitrofurantoin). That is not that strong of an antibiotic but can work in some cases depending on the bacteria. She should finish the course of antibiotics and if she still has urinary tract pain she can get try taking lots of cranberry juice if she is not diabetic. If she is diabetic she can't drink the juice. Is it possible to find out whether they did further testing on the urine? Does she have a fever?

Avatar f tn short duration course of a basic antibiotic such as nitrofurantoin may be suggested in low grade infection. With the part history of chronic infections, the dose/ duration of the antibiotic may not be irrelevant in the scenario; though in the current situation, treating the primary cause i.e. the fistula may be suggested, to avoid complications.

Avatar m tn This tube can get blocked due to infections of the throat, which can give lead to a feeling of fullness in the ears. This can also result in infection of the ears. The blocked ears can be opened up by the valsalva maneuver, where air is blown into the cheeks against a closed nostrils, this sometimes helps to open up the tubes. Steam inhalations and warm salt water gargles can help clear the tube. Please consult your family physician. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Hi Paul I know this was a long time ago, but I feel like I'm experiencing the neurological side effects of nitrofurantoin. It's not just a tingling in my hands, my muscles spasm and tremor in the night time. I am jolted awake sometimes. There's a fuzziness in my head that comes and goes and makes me feel like I'm going to convulse. I'm terrified that this is irreversible.
1770925 tn?1365618522 There is no known peripheral neuropathy with the use of cephalexim, particularly short-term use. You can also check with the pharmacist. Sulfa drugs can cause allergies and hypersensitivity reactions, one particular one is steven johnson’s where you can get reddish purple rashes all over the body. Neurological complications known are dizziness, hallucinations etc. Wishing you all the best.
Avatar f tn That sounds familiar... in the beginning weeks of my pregnancy I had a uti and they gave me some sort of antibiotics. that sounds very familiar.

Avatar f tn I have visited the doctor 3times and the last tested I did. He told I had almost nothing in terms of UTI and in my partner there was an indication that she had UTI, and we were both put on medication, but after the medication, I still feel the pain. We have not been meeting with my partner. And from day one, from the time I started having these pains my partner has never complained of any pains showing of any symptoms related to the infection. How can I go about this, I also did a scrotum scan.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I would like to ask whether the use of Raglan in pregnancy due to the morning sickness can have negative effect for the baby? Because I am throwing out everything I can't eat, I even couldn't drink and was in hospital last week, and the doctor said I have to take Raglan. I take the medicine now and I feel better but I'm worried for the baby.
Avatar n tn The doctor said the results came back negative and there was a lot of water in my urine. She asked if i could be pregnant, she then ran a pregnancy test the first one came back positive and the second came back negative. She started me on Macrobid and told me to take another test. When reading the leaflet for the home pregnancy test it says antibiotics can effect the resulst so should i take the test or wait till the antibiotics are done.
Avatar f tn Since taking the Nitrofurantoin, my back pain comes and goes, jumps in severity, sometimes subtle, sometimes severe, my penis seems a little sore (mainly urethra) and testicle area too. Very mild though. I also get sweats (like a hot flush), shakes, random sharp itches and mild tingling in my hands. Perhaps these are side effects of the medication? I’ve read a few are possible. As I say, urine samples all appeared normal. All blood tests also show no concern to any bodily functions.
Avatar f tn I've been told I have a UTI and was given Macrobid/Nitrofurantoin I've taken 3 tablets but I was just curious on if it was okay to take and I've just read up that people have lost their babies days after taking the tablets?! Has anyone taken these antibiotics and had a healthy pregnancy?!
Avatar f tn I have recently been feeling unwell and have recurring UTI’s and been on Nitrofurantoin. I also take levothyroxine for an under active thyroid. I recently had a LFT and my ALT was 934. My GGT was 140 and bilirubin 37. I am having an urgent scan tomorrow but the drs seem at a loss as to what is causing this? Any advice or help?
Avatar f tn m in my first trimester and I have a urinary track infection, and a doctor at a hospital prescribed me Nitrofurantoin 100 mg , 4 times a day, of course the side effects are worse in me, I guess because of my pregnancy, but I need to know if it's really safe for my baby, I'm not having any problems in my pregnancy, and I don't have any spotting, thanks God. But I had a miscarriage before and I'm very concerned about any pills doctors make me take.
Avatar n tn Hi I had sex a few weeks ago and within 24 hours I had erection problems and testes shrunk . I did a gonorrea and chlamedia test both were negative . I had blood in my urine +3 not seen by the naked eye. The doctor could see no infection so she made me do a kidney function blood test. The kidney blood test was fine . So I read online that blood can give me a Uti.
Avatar f tn Some women do use/need vaginal valium to help with spasms that cause pain. As noted above, using antibiotics without an infection isn't necessarily a good thing as it can make our body resistant to antibiotics so when we do have an infection, they won't work well. There are some antibiotics that don't work well for me because I've had to take so many over the years to fight infections - that means they have to use stronger ones now than they might otherwise have to use.
Avatar f tn You could also have inflammation of the urinary tract which would result in white blood cells in urine, but bacterial UTI is the most common cause. Some women have Sterile pyuria which is persistent white blood cells in urine without any bacterial infection at all. That's not super common and usually having white blood cells means UTI or kidney issue. They will likely check you for these again. How can you test for these on your own at home? Do you see your doctor today?
Avatar f tn I want to know the name of the meds the doctor gave you for a UTI and how weeks were you ?
