Avatar f tn Can a person who is not a diabetic take metformin for weight loss.. I need to loose 60lbs i have tried other prescription's diet pill's and i'am immune to them they work for awhile then nothing.
Avatar f tn Since I now longer take Metformin I am having trouble losing the last 20 lbs I need to lose. Is there a connection between weight loss and taking Metformin. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar n tn As with ANY treatment, it is effective for most people but not everyone. Also, some people do have weight loss as Metformin helps their body use insulin. Again, it varies from person to person.
Avatar f tn Before going on metformin my weight was 277. I was put on metformin seven months ago and things have changed alot for me I dont eat as much as I use too. I take 500 mg twice a day. I take at lunch and dinner. The weight seem to just fall off without me really doing anything like execrise. Before I was tested for being insulin resistanced I craved sugary foods like candy. I would buy bags and bags of candy, but once i started metformin all those cravings stopped.
415867 tn?1323365503 (10) WEIGHT LOSS AND OTHER BENEFITS. Metformin may contribute to weight loss in some diabetics.(11) However, weight loss does not appear to be one of its primary benefits. Glucophage may also be of some value improving success with in vitro fertilization, lowering cholesterol, and improving energy.
Avatar n tn Metformin (Glucophage) must be taken with food otherwise it may cause nausea or vomiting, gas, ingestion, and abdominal discomfort leading to loss of appetite and, of course, excessive weight loss. Your mother might want to switch to the long-acting form of Metformin, called Metformin ER, which has fewer side effects in patients. Please discuss this with her doctor.
Avatar n tn I have PCOS too and I have been put on Metformin which helps with weight loss. People with PCOS have a higher insulin levels which decreases your female hormones and increases the male hormones which cause the hair growth and scattered periods. These are things that you know about but with increased insulin levels your body does not process the food correctly and tends to hold onto it which is why I gained weight! Metformin is for glucose patients and that is why it helps PCOS patients.
Avatar n tn Do i need to go up to a higher doesage or what? I am afraid of why im not losing the weight my docter said i would. She had told me in a year i would see my weight start to go down. Avatar f tn Hey ladies, my husband and i have tried ivf three times. we've only made it to retrevial once, due to poor response. I'm 26 and was diagnosed with pcos. my peroid have always been regular. I am over weight (242 lbs) and started metformin in october. since starting metformin i've lost a little over 20 lbs. do you think if i lost more weight i would respond better to the meds. I know some hormones are stored in fat expecially belly fat. Just wondering what you ladies think.
Avatar f tn Hi I am 17 and I am on metformin. The side effects of the Metformin isn't bad. You do have to go to the restroom alot but thats how you can loose waight. If you get pregnant it wont hurt the baby but metformin can go threw the milk well thats what I read. You would need to talk to your doctor if you want to breast feed. What that pill does is that it reduces the surgures on the foods you eat. Just start slow. Start with 1 for a pill for a week and then 2 ang just go on.

Avatar f tn Hello, My mom just turned 50 this year. She was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes two years ago and was 168 pounds at 5"5'. Her doctor put her on Metformin, and she is supposed to be on it for life. Her doctor told her that she would lose weight on it, and the lowest she's been so far is 143 pounds when she weighed herself within the past couple of days. She was at the doctor in December because she had laryngitis and she was weighed at 150 and he was glad about the weight loss.
Avatar f tn HELLO, I HAVE BEEN TAKING METFORMIN FOR YEARS NOW, BUT FOR DIABETES NOT WEIGHT LOSS. I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS ALSO USED FOR WEIGHT CONTROL.FOR ME IT IS TO HELP MY BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS. IT HAS HAD NO EFFECT AT ALL ON MY PERIOD.
594189 tn?1386916607 I have heard that even losing 5 - 10% of your body weight can increase your chances of getting pregnant. I have lost 30 lbs so far in getting ready to do IVF in June. I plan to get to 50 lbs. I am following the GI Diet and on Metformin as well. I am not sure how much the metformin is actually helping though. What I find hard is that being a bigger girl, I cant get pregnant buy I know plenty of women bigger than me that are pregnant not problem....just depends on the person I guess.
Avatar f tn I'm on metformin and have experienced no weight loss that I can attribute to the drug alone, nor have I suffered from any side effects.
Avatar n tn There are a number of patients that have noted weight loss with their use of the birth control pill Micrette. However, there are no guarantees and I am guessing that some have a good amount of weight loss where others may only lose a few pounds. It also seems to be more user friendly than some of the competitors that have weight gain as a common problem. Hope this helps...
Avatar f tn Not to make your life more complicated, but you also want to get checked to make certain you are in fact Type II. Unexplained weight loss is more a symptom of Type 1 and LADA/1.5. 20% of people diagnosed Type 2 are in fact Type 1.5. I was 58 when diagnosed, not a lot younger than you and they just assumed Type 2 by my age; the treatments are quite different.
Avatar m tn It depends on the medication. Metformin, the most commonly prescribed type 2 medication does help with weight loss. But mostly you need to cut carbs (good for blood sugar management anyway), reduce fat and increase exercise. Also make sure your thyroid is stable as that of course affects weight as well. Congratulations on your A1C!
Avatar f tn has any1 tried metformin does it really help weight loss and stop excess facial hair?
Avatar f tn So it has definately helped with weight loss when I put some effort. So it does help with weight loss, but only when you are already trying to lose weight. If that makes sense?
475740 tn?1208262865 I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. I really want to lose weight and I know I gotta take the Metformin but it makes me very nauseous. The diarrhea I can handle but not the nausea, so I haven't been taking it. I see an endocrinologist Wednesday. I was wondering if there's an alternative to Metformin/Glucophage without the nausea side effects. If there's not how long does it take until you get used to the side effects?
Avatar n tn However it does have other benefits for women with PCOS, including improving the likelihood of spontaneous ovulation, or making women who need clomid to help them ovulate more sensitive to clomid. Are your periods regular? What are your goals - weight loss? Pregnancy? If weight loss, a nutritionist might be helpful.
1500387 tn?1460740020 This weight loss was attributed to the resolution of insulin resistance provided by Metformin. In the same study, those who continued on Metformin after one year maintained their weight loss while those who stopped Metformin regained 50% of their weight. Another study showed that women who continued on Metformin following their weight loss, maintained that loss for 2 to 4 years. Metformin can Restore Menstruation Metformin restores menstruation.
Avatar f tn s a drug that they also use for diabetics but it helps regulate your hormones in your uterus (plus PcOS increases your chances of diabetes) anyways a side effect of metformin is weight loss...so that may help!
