Common Questions and Answers about Use of lexapro in pregnancy

lexapro

Avatar n tn One doctor told me that these effects are felt early, but would not present after years of use, and today a Psychiatrist told me that my recent emotional (angry) responses were caused by the Wellbutrin and that I needed to change to Lexapro. I'm confused. Can you tell me which is the better answer? I was taking Wellbutrin SR 300 mg for a number of years and then within the past couple of years it was inadvertently changed to XI.
Avatar f tn Lexapro is a Class C medication which means it can be taken while pregnant if the benefits outweigh the risks. A Class C drug means that studies in animals show no ill effects on the fetus but no well-controlled studies have been performed in humans. Discuss this with your doctor BEFORE getting pregnant. Some doctors prefer you avoid Class C medications during the 1st trimester as that is when the potential for birth defects (if applicable) is greatest.
Avatar m tn Dear whoever may know, I was diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder 2 1/2 years ago, and I have been taking Lexapro at 10 mg per day ever since. The medicine has really seemed to have helped my life in all aspects. Whether it has really helped or if this is some kind of placebo effect, I am unsure. I still have moments of reasonable stress at work, but who doesn't...most importantly, I don't have panic attacks anymore.

12927270 tn?1427815939 All of the symptoms you've described are normal side effects of Lexapro and should pass as your body adjusts to the medication. It can take from 1-4 weeks for Lexapro to reach what is called therapeutic levels in your bloodstream. This is the point when you will begin to feel relief from the symptoms you were given this medication for. That does not necessarily mean you will feel these side effects for that long.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I would like to ask whether the use of Raglan in pregnancy due to the morning sickness can have negative effect for the baby? Because I am throwing out everything I can't eat, I even couldn't drink and was in hospital last week, and the doctor said I have to take Raglan. I take the medicine now and I feel better but I'm worried for the baby.
Avatar n tn You really need to consult your dr or even your pharmacist to get accurate information on what meds are safe for you and your baby ahead of time. Some anxiety meds (i.e. Klonopin and Xanax) are category 'D' - not recommended for pregnant women. Good luck!
541196 tn?1293552936 However, you may have a relapse of depression if you stop taking your antidepressant during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, or if you become pregnant while taking Lexapro, do not stop taking the medication without first talking to your doctor.
Avatar f tn And I have been on the generic form of lexapro for anxiety and depression. My doctor made me get off of it 2 years ago with my last pregnancy and now i know once I tell him I am pregnant again it'll be the same response from him that I need to get off of my pill. Even though I will be a mesa without it. Any ladies on here on lexapro /escitalopram and pregnant?
Avatar n tn it can be taken in 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg. I take 10mg in spring, summer and fall and 20 mg in Winter. It decreases my anxiety and allows me a great night's sleep. I've been on this for years and highly recommend it as it has minimal side effects. If you have sleep Apnea that can cause interrupted sleep but not insomnia...so I would expect you would need a different source of help as well.
Avatar f tn This time because I wanted to try to get pregnant again I was put in Lexapro 10 and xanax 3 times a day. The xanax was not helping and I found myself in the emergency room a few times until one doctor prescribed clonazepam. This medicine has helped me tremendously. However I tried to wean off of it a few months ago and the anxiety came back. My doctor upped my Lexapro to 20 milligrans and put me back on the clonazepam 2 times a day at 0.5 mg.
Avatar f tn I was on lexapro and warned by my doctor that it is on the "schedule c" list for use during pregnancy. I believe that means it is possible for it to have negative effects on the pregnancy. I was also on hydroxizine and seroquel. I stopped taking mine over a month ago as we had decided to try for one more baby and I was afraid of the possible effects. I have 3 kids but wasn't on any of these meds before or during those pregnancies. Not only that but seroquel can prevent pregnancy.
Avatar f tn all my symptoms have returned,i feel shortness of breath i wake in the middle of the night and my heart is pounding..i am scared to death but am trying to deal. i dont want to hurtmy baby either..i have 5 weeks left to deliver i hope everything goes well and i wish u and ur baby the same.
Avatar f tn We will see if i feel better or worse in about 2 days, lexapro has a half life of 27-36hrs. I hope the lexapro is the reason for this feeling , cuz the wellbutrin gave me the same feeling. So maybe ill be back to normal after i quit lexapro. I mean im only 23. I wouldnt say i really need it, never needed it before either. My opiate use wasnt for too long either, less than a year.. Even though i went through some rough physical withdrawals, my post recovery really shouldnt take long right?
Avatar m tn I was on Zoloft for about four years while I was not pregnant. I wasn't particularly TTC-ing at the time but wasn't on any chemical/hormonal contraceptives either. My doctor (GP) at the time said that it was safe but she advised me to tell her if I was seriously trying to conceive. Later, I moved and changed doctor and my new doctor prescribed Lexapro. She said that it is a better drug than Zoloft and that I would experience less side effects.
Avatar f tn Is there a possibility of pregnancy or Gallbladder issues?
Avatar f tn Well, tonight I could no longer stand it, so I took 1/4 pill which is 2.5 mg. I think you're right, I went too quickly, so I'll continue taking this smaller dosage and then taper off it. No, I did not do this under direction of a doctor, every time I bring it up to them they tell me that it has been approved for use in pregnant women so I really don't need to go off of it. But all that means is it most likely does not have PERMANENT effects on a fetus or newborn.
Avatar n tn ) I finally got into see a counselor who I think I will like (seen her twice now) and then on Friday finally got to see a psychiatrist. After an hour and half of questions in intake, she decides I should try the Lexapro again. ????? I told her the horrible side effects I was having. She said I didn't give it enough time. I said that I went over 3 weeks and was still crawling out of my skin.
Avatar n tn This means that it is not known whether buprenorphine and naloxone will be harmful to an unborn baby. Use of buprenorphine and naloxone during pregnancy may cause withdrawal symptoms in a newborn baby. Do not take buprenorphine and naloxone if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Contrary to what you may have heard methadone is not safe during pregnancy, it is actually more dangerous to a baby than heroin. I am not sure why doctors prescribe it but they shouldn't.
Avatar f tn if i used crack cocain in the first four months of pregnancy but am clean now will it show still in babys system when born?
Avatar n tn It seems that when I take one .25mg dose of Klonopin to help with the side effect symptoms of Lexapro as I enter my 2nd week on it... I can feel the "calming effect" a good 24 hours later even... does one dose of Klonopin last that long? Also I know people on here say you have to take it regularly to have an effect... in my case... within one hour of taking it I am "chilled out".....and I don't take it everyday... I guess everyone reacts differently...
Avatar n tn Restlessness, hypertonia, jitteriness, irritability and poor feeding occurred in a neonate after maternal use of venlafaxine for depression during pregnancy. The diagnosis was confirmed by a temporary improvement after administration of a low dose (1 mg) of venlafaxine to the boy. The symptoms ceased after 8 days. Best is let your OB know before you get pregnant and get their input on this.

Avatar f tn My dr. gave samples of Lexapro 10mg to try out for anxiety/possible depression. I took my first dose this morning before work and discovered it's not a day time med, I became very tired, groggy and sleepy. I am currently taking ambien 10mg every night for sleep. should I take another lexapro tonight? I can't take it before work? It is safe to take them both at the same time? Or start over tomorrow night? Im new to the anxity/depression meds............
Avatar m tn s unlikely you suffered permanent damage from such a short term use, but you could suffer all kinds of odd things for awhile after abruptly stopping any of these meds. Again, because of the short duration of use, you should be fine. As for long duration of use, yes, there are many people who suffer protracted withdrawals, which is just a fancy way of saying there might be permanent effects from them.
1198633 tn?1341182388 My psychiatrist cut my Lexapro down from 10mg to 5mg a day, per some observation my therapist had made about a twitch in the left side of my face. I think it's only a nervous twitch because I do get kind of giddy when I'm with him and just being in that room. I've heard nothing of a twitch that either my family or friends have seen and I've asked them multiple times if they've ever seen me do it.
