Common Questions and Answers about Use of arimidex in men

arimidex

Avatar f tn ve completed 4 cycles of Taxotere and Cytoxan. I have been on Arimidex for 4 months. What might be my chances of a distant metastasis? I have pre-osteopenia per a bone density. My oncologist said I might consider Zometa infusions which would be given every 6 months. Does it only help prevent bone metastasis or other mets as well? I know the research is still out on this but an early study indicated a greater than 30% reduction in risk of bone mets. That seems substantial.
Avatar n tn m not looking to replace arimidex with the supplement, just use it to enhance the AI effect of arimidex (the supplement works in the liver, not in the adrenals like arimidex). In addition to the feedback from my oncologist, I would like more professional opinions as well. If my estradion/estrone blood tests remain low, can I trust that the estrogen results are accurate -- or could there still be an interaction between arimidex and the supplement that the blood test wouldn't show?
Avatar f tn Hi, I found this information for you.I am also taking Arimidex and of course I am very interested in knowing more about this medication. My breast surgeon told me also that by taking Arimidex reduces the development of new breast cancers by 50 per cent. ----------------------------------------- Arimidex most effective in breast cancer study.
Avatar m tn Armidex may not prolong his growth period much longer with such an advanced bone age, it is a medication used to block estrogen effect, also used in breast cancer, there are concerns with the liver but if monitored carefully most have few side effects. However with a bone age of 17 1/2 growth is near completion. I would work with the peds endocrinologist and talk with them to discuss your concerns, plan of care and monitoring.
Avatar n tn If you will visit you can get a complete list of the side effects of Arimidex as well as all the Chemotherapy drugs in use today. Regards .....
Avatar m tn Hi. Did you use the Arimidex?
Avatar n tn My oncologist is in the process of deciding whether to prescribe Letrozole/Femara or Anastrozole/Arimidex. What considerations factor into which of these two drugs to use? Has anyone had experience with either of them? How serious are the side effects?
Avatar n tn Hi. I've had my lumpectomy and some of my lymph nodes removed (as precaution) and am now looking at the next step. My surgeon had thought I'd do radiation, but I can't. As I do research, I'm wondering, what do I look under, since I have more than one type of carcinoma? My path report says: a) invasive adenocarcinoma tubualr growth pattern, grade 1, max. tumor diam. 1.1cm, margins clear, est + in >90% of invasive cells; prog. + in 10% of invasive cells. HER-2 neg.
Avatar f tn s ability to use estrogen, while Aromatase Inhibitors reduce the amount of estrogen production in the body. Tomoxifen also carries a risk of blood clots that the others don't. If Tamoxifen didn't work, one of the others just might. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that in order to get an idea if it is working or not, you really need to give it 90 days. I'm not sure one month would be enough time to see accurate results.
Avatar n tn Thank you very much for your prompt and informative response. I am now taking a two- week Arimidex holiday with my oncologist's blessing because my bp is now in a range of 133/77 to 170/100. As you can see the high end is still not acceptable. Will see internist this Friday to further discuss bp management. This is a great site, and I am glad I came across it.
Avatar f tn am BRCA1 single mutation -- hysterectomy in 2003 with ca125 at 1483. 6 rounds of carbo/taxol w/first 2 rounds also w/doxil under clinical trial (kicked off because no hematologic recovery) --CA125 down to 5.8 -- 15 months remission 6 months of tamoxifen then needed chemo again (CA125 up to 291) in Jan 2007 -- 6 cycles carbo/taxol CA125 ended at 7.
Avatar m tn s muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. For more information regarding this drug and side effects you can check out the website chemocare.com. Avatar f tn ll be surpised how well it works.
Avatar n tn The purpose of this post is for other breast cancer survivors on Arimidex - looking for experiences with joint pain. I had chemotherapy and radiation therapy in 2006 for a stage 2 invasive lobular carcinoma. I was on Tamoxifen from mid-2006 until late 2008 - when I had an oophorectomy (prophylactic). I had tolerated the Tamoxifen very well for two years - few side effects. I was switched to Arimidex in late 2008 and have been on it since. I am a pretty healthy (other than the BC) - 52 year old.
Avatar f tn I just completed 5 years on arimidex and have been asked to be part of a study and go on it for another 5 years. Has cancer reoccurred in patients while they have been on arimidex, not due to the drug, but due to the cancer. In other words, does taking arimidex prevent cancer from reoccurring while a patient is on it?
Avatar f tn I would bet my life it was the Actonel. Anyway in order to go on the Arimidex I would have to get a shot of Reclast for the bones that you need only once a year. As confused as I am If Octonal reacted on me like this what would I do for a whole year if relcast did this to me. The doctor said reclast is different. Right now they want me to stay on tomaxacin becuase I am having root canal. I also hear that Tomaxacin is only good for three years.
Avatar n tn Been on Arimidex 26 months. Having numbness in hands and feet. Oncologist doesn't think it's related to Arimidex. Anyone have this problem while on this drug?
Avatar n tn I feel comfortable with the idea of switching from Tamoxifen into Arimidex to get the benefit of both. Of course, each case is different and treatment these days is individualized, however, it is important to learn as much as we can to participate in the process. As a preventive measure, I am considering removing my ovaries in two years, a simple laperoscopic procedure. I say simple considering the general implications of bc. Don't want to take any chances.
Avatar m tn But women are much more plagued by that than men. In fact, Precocious puberty is much more common in girls in general so a lot of what you read about it is geared toward girls. If you are wanting your child to grow more, prolonging full puberty could work for you. But yes, I'd expect some side effects. Hard decision.
Avatar n tn I saw my eye doctor again last week and my vision has deteriorated from 20/40 to 20/70 (with correction) in just a few months. Eye problems are not listed as a side effect of Arimidex in any of the information I have been given, but I am wondering if this could be a less common side effect. Is this something I should discuss with my oncologist?
Avatar n tn Does Arimidex have to actually kill you vs. maiming you for life, in order to be pulled off the market? At 58, I may need a hip replacement because I took Arimidex for two years! DeeDee This discussion is related to Arimidex Long Term Side Effects.
Avatar n tn I am 42 and have been on Arimidex since Feb. 20, 2009. I have had a hysterectomy in May to remove my ovaries. I have gained 15 pounds. I am on a 1600 calorie/day diet and walk six miles a day, four days a week. I would like to know if there is any thing else I can do to battle this weight gain. I will be on Arimidex for another four years.
Avatar f tn I saw a Professor of Endocrinology in Feb 2008, referred by my bc surgeon, as this guy has an academic interest in side effects of Arimidex. He suggested I continue with Arimidex and Fosamax to prevent further bone loss, but I cannot stand the pain and disturbance to my sleep. Does anyone have any experience of stopping Arimidex and getting a different med that does not have the side effect of bone pain?
Avatar n tn Arimidex does have fatigue as one of it's side effects while Herceptin does cause weakness but I doubt what you are experiencing is from your treatment in 2009. I would think that Arimidex is the culprit in this case. Regards ....
