Avatar f tn I have been scared of ngu or some other form of infection. I have used multiply uti test strips which test white blood cell count in urine. None have been positive, one or two showed trace amount of wbc (I've taken about 18 tests). Would these show an infection (ngu) if one existed???
Avatar f tn Yes, a urine quick test can tell you if you have WBC, but not if you have gonorrhea, chlamydia, NGU or another infection that could be causing that. You need specific tests for that. If you have concerns about those, you need to let the doctor know so they can do specific tests.
Avatar n tn I frequently use urine test strips to test my urine when I feel unwell that may be waterwork problem. Have had kidney stone surgically removed in the past. Nitrite on the stick will mean that it is a bladder problem - usually Cystitis. Positive leucocyte reading on the stick with or without signs of protein, usually means that there is a bacterial infection. If the doctor said you have a uti (urinary tract infection) this is anywhere from the kidneys down.
Avatar f tn I read what someone on this board wrote, and they said that after her OB visit, she was given meds for a UTI. Is that something the urine test will test for?
Avatar f tn The one thing that I am currently fearing is a nsu/ngu. I have been using home uti test strips to determine whether I have any white blood cells in urine. None have come back positive but some have some back with a "trace" of wbc. Whatever that means. What are chances this is nsu? If it is, will it go away on its own? What type of testing should be done to confirm status? Is my wife at risk if there is not clamydia or gonnorhea? Any help would be great.
Avatar f tn I'm 25 weeks pregnant. At around 19 weeks, after having urethral pain for 2 weeks, I went to the ER as i was certain I did have a UTI, even though my doctor dismissed my symptoms and told me the leukocytes and bacteria found were from contamination. I was in considerably more pain that same night so headed to the ER where they confirmed I had a UTI and put me on cephalexin. I took it for 4 days until I started having diarrhea.
Avatar n tn About a month ago I noticed nitrates were testing positive on the strips (Only +first morning urine), I had no symptoms of a UTI and I did nothing. Then a few days ago my urine appeared green and was testing for blood, leukocytes, protein (I always have this), and still the nitrates(Now positive at any time of day tested). I then began having urgency issues as well as right side flank pain. I went to the Dr. and she said my urine was a mess.
Avatar f tn Honestly I keep a bottle of the UA test strips on hand and check my urine at home frequently. I also have no insurance, often have chronic uti's and so it just makes sense to do so. You can order a bottle of 100 strips through Pulmolab , the generic one run around $30 with shipping i believe. HOWEVER, right now it is very hard for an IC patient to tell the difference since a flare feels so much like a uti.
Avatar n tn I again bought urine strips that detect blood only, and the strips shows non-hemolyzed trace only after drinking beer or coffee. If I drink a glass of water with a tsp of baking soda, the test strips come out negative. I guess my question is "is it harmful to drink a glass of baking soda water daily?", or should I return to the doctor and go thru kidney x-rays, cystoscopy, etc again? I really hate to give up my coffe ...
Avatar m tn Have not tried cranberry juice. Got Urinalysis done which came back negative. I then bought some at home UTI testing strips. With testing at home, one of the strips came back positive for trace leukocyctes, slight pink dots on the test strip. Will do Urinalysis again, this time with urine straight after waking up.
Avatar f tn It honestly can come and go and you can actually test for BLD yourself with the diagnostic test strips "GP Mulistix" by either bayer or siemens (25 tests in one tube) along with nitrates and leucocytes, protein etc Theres no restrictions on the public buying these - though they are not super cheap (£10- £14 as a guide in the UK as a guide for 25) Mild Kidney infections can show a trace of blood - see if this is a "one off" then if it contines daily take action according to wh
Avatar f tn They did not send the urine to a lab. I do not have an infection as the urine strips test for leukocytes (which are fighting infection cells)..
Avatar f tn I just used the Otc strips that test for NIT, or LEU, and my wbc was a little positive. My doc is out until Monday and I've had this issue since being treated, I had a nurse tell me it could be inflammation from the infection causing the urgency and wbc in my urine.

Avatar n tn I recently bought some reagent strips to measure the blood in my urine and it showed trace amounts of hemolyzed blood. I am currently fighting a case of gastroenteritis, is there any connection and should I go back to the Dr?
Avatar f tn You can also purchase urine PH strips over the counter at a local pharmacy and check the PH yourself. Diet plays a major role in Urine PH as well. What do you feed? If your dog had a culture and sensitivity run on her urine, that would tell you the exact bacteria responsible and give you the best antibiotic to eliminate it. Conformation of a dogs vulvar area can also be a factor.
Avatar n tn You can get those over the counter UTI test strips at Walmart or cvs and test your urine yourself. They are the same thing the doctor uses and tests for WBC in urine.
Avatar n tn But if you really did have something wrong like a gallstone or other bile blockage, then the urine test will remain constant in showing the problem on repeated tests. If you didn't have the strip stored properly, the testing chemicals on the strip will become compromised/contaminated and will give you the crazy results. Be sure your test strips are stored in a small, airtight container. And that you use a clean urine collection cup as well.
Avatar n tn The test strips that I use are 10LG Parameter Urine Reagent Strips which can be bought on line at a reasonable price. These strips detect Leukocytes, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ketone, Bilirubin, Glucose. You can get strips that detect less. The one that would be of interest if someone is suffering from dehydration is the Specific Gravity reading.
Avatar f tn Any way, I am almost always in constant big time pain. I do have alot of UTIs. And I always feel like I have a uti. So, I have urine test strips just like the Dr. labs have-so I don't have to run to the Dr. every other day. My question is.......I ALWAYS test positive for Leukocyte esterase (WBC esterase). And usually I test it is really high in WBC.....Why would I keep testing postive for WBC? Is this common for IC patients? Thanks for any light anyone can shed on this for me.....
Avatar m tn Have endured irritation in urethra (tip of penis) for three weeks, with no discharge or obvious trauma. Had difficulty urinating and irritation from friction with clothes...all day, especially when working out. Saw my GP two weeks ago and told him about symptoms; he asked if there was any reason it could be STD...I have not had any new partners and in monogamous relationship, so I hope it's not STD.
Avatar m tn About a day later I felt like I had pain while urinating and a feeling of annoyance from my penis. I got a few UTI test strips, followed all directions, and they call came back negative. I also started eating cranberries and taking cranberry supplements. I even used some urethral analgesic meds for 1 day to try to help with the pain which did nothing, seemed to irritate it more. A few days later and all I had was twinging pain and redness of the glans.
