Avatar n tn This could also be a sign that you have a urinary tract infection. You can be tested for this at your doctors office or you can purchase test strips at your local drug store. They usually have them at the pharmacy and no prescrition is required. If you do have a urinary tract infection, your doctor will prescribe a 3 day course of antibiotics. I would try drinking more water and cranberry juice and see if this helps. If not, see your doctor.
Avatar m tn Now what is with these test strips showing blood in my urine every time I get checked at the clinic ? Should I be concerned ?
Avatar n tn I frequently use urine test strips to test my urine when I feel unwell that may be waterwork problem. Have had kidney stone surgically removed in the past. Nitrite on the stick will mean that it is a bladder problem - usually Cystitis. Positive leucocyte reading on the stick with or without signs of protein, usually means that there is a bacterial infection. If the doctor said you have a uti (urinary tract infection) this is anywhere from the kidneys down.

Avatar m tn I'm a month removed from Covid. It started with an emergency room visit, They found blood and protein in my urine as I went in because I couldn't pee.One day later I developed upper respiratory Covid symptoms. Coincidence? Antibiotics cleared up the infection as I retested two weeks later and all was clear. However I'm now having to urinate constantly. I have test strips and no problems are showing up. Also my left flank hurts.
Avatar n tn You may not even have to bring your dog in for an exam if the urine is positive for a simple urinary tract infection (an infection without crystals). The vet can simply give appropriate antibiotics. If your dog has crystals in his urine, the crystals would need to be identified and treatment instituted. Crystals can be dangerous in male dogs because if they become large enough they can become lodged in the urethra and cause blockage (even in dogs, though more common in male cats).
Avatar f tn I regularly drink lots of water, and no i do not have a urinary tract infection because I often get these and when I do it is accompanied by lots of pain, and I am not in any pain at the moment. The only symptom I have is strong smelling urine and I do get a lot of lower back pain. Could this be a kidney infection? I have had a urinanalysis, this came up clear.
Avatar m tn Making a diagnosis of a urinary tract infection includes performing a urinalysis test, which checks for the presence of pus, white blood cells, and bacteria in the urine, which point to a urinary tract infection. A urine culture and sensitivity is usually performed to find the exact microorganism that is causing the infection and to determine the most effective antibiotic to treat it.
Avatar f tn I have a question for those of you with urinary tract problems. I have had several UTIs and seem to be retaining urine. Also, my bladder and kidneys hurt. As many of you know, I do have Lupus. The question I have is should I be going to a urologist? I have talked to my GP about this and I have even mentioned being tested for Lupus Nephritis, but he just tells me that anytime he has checked my kidneys they have been fine.
