Avatar n tn Hello Candikane, Your doctor's advice is surprising to me, also. I'm guessing that s/he is not a diabetes specialist and that's the type of physician who should be guiding your diabetes care. Specialists might be called endocrinologist or diabetologist. None of us here is a physician, but we're long-time diabetics or care-givers for diabetic children. You didn't mention if you've been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2, and the treatment options vary for these types.
Avatar f tn She never mentioned anything about insulin and that's because she has Diabetes Insipidus, which she clearly stated. Diabetes Insipidus IS NOT Diabetes Mellitus.
Avatar m tn I see you have the word 'diabetes' crossed. Diabetes is a Greek word meaning large amounts of urine. Both diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus fall into this realm but both are separate mechanisms. This forum deals mostly with type 2 diabetes, people who have high blood sugar levels [mellitus]. Diabetes insipidus is kidney related. For best answers, the forum to post on is Kidney Disease & Disorders.
Avatar f tn There are some bacteria in the gut that produce hydrogen sulfide gas. This gas has a smell of rotten eggs. You can test its presence by urine test strips available OTC. Most of this gas comes from sulfites a person consumes, which is a part of all preservatives. Sulfites are present in all juices, molasses, yellow dye in ready made food stuffs, and red wine.
Avatar n tn Urine test reveals, more often than not, the presence of diabetes. That was certainly the case with me. However, in early stages or in the pre-diabetes stage your kidneys may not be 'spilling out" the excess glucose from your blood and one may get a false sense security. This situation can last for a number of years with consequent damage to your organs by the high blood glucose.

In males prostatitis can also cause such symptoms.
Avatar m tn You need to get a blood sugar test fasting or HBA1C test done to clear your status of diabetes. My opinion would be to consult a urologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn if the expiration date on the test strips has passed, are the test strips still good?
Avatar n tn The most common causes of repeated UTIs are kidney stones and diabetes mellitus. Making a diagnosis of a urinary tract infection includes performing a urinalysis test, which checks for the presence of pus, white blood cells, and bacteria in the urine, which point to a urinary tract infection. A urine culture and sensitivity is usually performed to find the exact microorganism that is causing the infection. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn Certain lifestyle changes can prevent the progression of CKD. Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus need to be adequately controlled. Lifestyle changes such as losing weight and getting more exercise can also help slow the progression of CKD and reduce any symptoms. These changes also help with high blood pressure, diabetes and other problems that make kidney disease worse. Use of medications called ACE inhibitors can help protect kidney function.
Avatar m tn You can buy on line Urine Reagent Strips quite cheaply. There are some that test the urine just for glucose, but they do not give an accurate recording of how much sugar there is in the blood stream. These sticks are a good indicator, but they will only detect glucose in the urine if there is above a certain level (fairly high) of glucose in the urine. An HbA1c blood test shows average blood glucose levels over a sustained period (about a 3 month period).
Avatar f tn They did not send the urine to a lab. I do not have an infection as the urine strips test for leukocytes (which are fighting infection cells)..
454221 tn?1259445739 First time they did a urine test to check for UTI and ***** his finger to test for sugar. That was about a month ago and both came out fine. Took him to his regular dr.'s and did a urine test again and that came out fine, but no sugar test. Should I be concerned that it could be diabetes or something much worse? The only other person in our family that I know has diabetes is his great uncle. No one that close just yet.
Avatar n tn Last night he tested positive for keytones in his urine. According to the test strips he had moderate to large ketones. Today he continues to test positive but with definate large results. I took him to see his pediatric doctor today and he actually call in an associate to look at him, also. Although together the two doctors ran all kinds of test on my grandson all they could really find wrong with him was large levels of keytones, a fever, and general flu like symtoms.
Avatar f tn Testing the urine is one way to check for ketones. You can pick up urine test strips at your local drug store. Just follow the instruction to do the test. If I remember right if the test strip turnes pick you have ketones in your urine, plus the strip tells you if there is blood, glucose, and a couple other things. But If I were you I would go get checked out just incase. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn burning in kidneys Sent by lwack 1 minute having a burning sensation in my kidneys and nausea I did a urine test strip first thing this morning. All results were fine apart from trace leukocytes, highest specific gravity and highest ketones. I do not take medication and do not feel unwell enough to go to the doctor I am not sure what these mean and should I worry?

Avatar m tn One thing that pops into mind is diabetes. One symptom is excessive thirst. But a simple test can check for that. Or it could be a habit. My husband drinks a lot of water. I'm not convinced he needs that much because he also urinates very often due to the water intake. But it's become a habit with him. He can't go anywhere without a bottle of water. He actually gets a bit tense. It's best if you get checked first to rule out health issues.
Avatar n tn Dear ttrue0724, It really is going to hurt you to have high ketones. It is one of the things that causes diabetic coma in undiagnosed type 1's, used to be known as juvenile. And your blood sugars are far too high. Blood sugars like these can be reason enough for a hospital admission. You may want to contact the medicaid office in your state to get them to cover you medically. You are doing your body no good at all in this current state of being.
