Avatar n tn So does dark urine affect Bilirubin on yours as well? The other white strips stay white. Just Bilirubin changes. But once I hydrate, it stops showing positive. I wasn't sure if concentrated urine was causing false positives. Or if dilluted urine was causing false negatives. I keep all strips in the container they came in. Thank you again!
Avatar n tn I have a pack of urine strips my sister in law who is a nurse gave me. I notice if my urine is concentrated, the bilirubin seems to go up a shade to trace. Once I start drinking, it shows no bilirubin. My wife tried one as well, and it seemed to do the same thing. Is this normal? Does concentrated urine make the bilirubin strip hard to read? If it were really an issue, would drinking make it show negative? Thanks.
Avatar n tn The test strips that I use are 10LG Parameter Urine Reagent Strips which can be bought on line at a reasonable price. These strips detect Leukocytes, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ketone, Bilirubin, Glucose. You can get strips that detect less. The one that would be of interest if someone is suffering from dehydration is the Specific Gravity reading.
Avatar f tn I took him to the doctors who’s referred us to the hospital and we’ve got the appointment for that this week, the gp told me to test his urine twice daily so I bought some strips from the pharmacy (£20 for 24!) and used them all up so I bought more online as I couldn’t afford that price again, they’re the same brand (siemens) but they test for a few extra things and I’d really appreciate anyone who knows wether to treat the bilirubin as + or -.
Avatar m tn Tea colored urine is often/usually due to an increase in the Bilirubin in the urine. Bilirubin in the urine can be indicative of liver disease. If the dark color of your urine is due to Bilirubin in the urine, the color may fluctuate depending on your liver function. It would be advisable to inform your doctor of the color of your urine. "A bilirubin test measures the amount of bilirubin in a blood sample. Bilirubin is a brownish yellow substance found in bile.
Avatar f tn I was then told that my urine specific gravity was high (above what they could test for) and I had elevated bilirubin in my urine and when I asked about the bilirubin was told that my liver was probably stressed by my dehydration (as indicated by the specific gravity and urine color).
Avatar m tn You can buy on line Urine Reagent Strips quite cheaply. There are some that test the urine just for glucose, but they do not give an accurate recording of how much sugar there is in the blood stream. These sticks are a good indicator, but they will only detect glucose in the urine if there is above a certain level (fairly high) of glucose in the urine. An HbA1c blood test shows average blood glucose levels over a sustained period (about a 3 month period).
Avatar n tn IN my CMP(14) My bilirubin, total was 1.4 mg/dl normal range 0.0 - 1.2 why is it in my urine test the bilirubin is negative? I tested negative for hiv and my LIPASE,SERUM was normal range.
Avatar m tn I recently got my urine test done with the military and they sent me a letter asking for a family doctor to re-interpret the results and/or do a new urine test. On the info sheet, 3 lines were highlighted and the results were given beside then: Protein - 1+ Ketones - TRACE Bilirubin - 2+ I'm stressing a bit because I did some research online and the articles said that it might be a kidney problem. With me trying to get into the Air Force I need to be physically and mentally healthy.
Avatar f tn Hello, I recently had blood biochemistry report done and had the strange results of high d. bilirubin and indirect bilirubin (direct bilirubin, I presume) and normal total bilirubin. My results for the whole hepatic panels are as follows: Total bilirubin 10.4 mg / dl Direct bilirubin 5.4 mg / dl indirect bilirubin 5 mg / dl ALT (SGPT) 138 hemoglobin 10.3 gm. / dl.
Avatar f tn I have been scared of ngu or some other form of infection. I have used multiply uti test strips which test white blood cell count in urine. None have been positive, one or two showed trace amount of wbc (I've taken about 18 tests). Would these show an infection (ngu) if one existed???
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor last week as I have been having pain on both upper left and rt side of abdomen. They found bilirubin in my urine. The AST/ALT, lipid profile, hyl pylori test all negative. They did an ultrasound- normal. Is this something to be concerned about? Do the negative tests rule out gall bladder or hepatitis?
Avatar f tn Hello, I had a complete blood panel done, including liver enzymes, total bilirubin, albumin, alt, ast, gamma gt, something hydrogenase, etc... The whole 9 yards. Everything came up perfect BUT in my urinanalysis, they found a "little bit" of bilirubin. Everything else about the urine is perfect. I saw my doctor yesterday, and he assures me that considering that all the blood tests are perfect, there is nothing to worry about and that I am FINE.
Avatar n tn I went to a doctor and was ordered a complete blood test, liver function test and lipid tests. Everything was normal except for Bilirubin which was 1.6 (normal 0.3 - 1.2) and cholestral which was 220 (LDL - 170). I was said that it is normal for some people to have moderately high bilirubin since the other tests were in normal range. Can somebody help me with what might be the cause for my dark yellow urine?
Avatar f tn I was able to find that you would have to take your urine to a lab to find out if bilirubin is in your urine. As far as your yellow/brown stains in your toilet.....I have seen that when you don't flush the toilet in a timely manner. Maybe you could try flushing before you go to work and see if that helps. Take your urine to be tested if your still having concerns. Leave the toilet water at home.

Avatar m tn hello i need your help i have jaundice now dark urine i got may test and this is the result HBsag - NONREACTIVE ANTI-HAV Igm - NONREACTIVE ULTRASOUND -NORMAL LIVER,GALLBLADDER AND BILLARY TREE SGPT - 402 SGOT - 144 how come i have jaundice i have negative result...plsss help...
Avatar f tn Yes, a urine quick test can tell you if you have WBC, but not if you have gonorrhea, chlamydia, NGU or another infection that could be causing that. You need specific tests for that. If you have concerns about those, you need to let the doctor know so they can do specific tests.
Avatar n tn I again bought urine strips that detect blood only, and the strips shows non-hemolyzed trace only after drinking beer or coffee. If I drink a glass of water with a tsp of baking soda, the test strips come out negative. I guess my question is "is it harmful to drink a glass of baking soda water daily?", or should I return to the doctor and go thru kidney x-rays, cystoscopy, etc again? I really hate to give up my coffe ...
Avatar n tn The blood test for Bilirubin is a test that is used to measure how a person's liver is functioning. Any high level of bilirubin in the lab results should be investigated further, as it indicates the liver is not functioning normally. "How is liver function measured? Albumin and bilirubin, and prothrombin time are more truely measures of liver function, but clinical factors must be considered as well.
Avatar n tn That is usually standard procedure with an elevation of bilirubin. The bilirubin could also explain your urine. By the way, is the color normal?
Avatar m tn All other values normal (ALT, AST, ALP). Also had CBC and all was normal there as well. Urine had no trace of bilirubin either. My doctor assured me that I am ok. I pleaded with him about all the information I have read on the web regarding the fractional bilirubin and the possible sinister ailments associated with high levels of bilirubin. He commended my research, but again stated that I am in good health. How common is it to have these elevated values?
Avatar n tn They can easily test a sample for bilirubin which should NOT be in the urine. Brown urine is a sign of jaundice, so see your doctor ASAP.
Avatar f tn I am on week 3 of my treatment & everything has gone fine until now. I look ed at my weekly blood tests and compared them. My virus load appears to slowly be coming down (ALT) (AST), thats good. In fact week 3 showed my AST normal for the first time . But my white blood cells are now down to 1.1 and my red blood cells came down slightly, but at the same time my platelets went up?
Avatar f tn I had a throat culture and urinalysis and sediment done and the NP said she thinks I have a viral infection or strep at the time of the appt yesterday (bad sore throat, swollen glands, urine frequency, fever, chills and body aches) Well I have access to my records online and this is what my urinalysis and sediment said, I don't understand what they mean? Urinalysis: UCLRG: Dark Yellow UAPP: Cloudy UGLG: Negative (Normal is Negative) UBILI: Small++ UKTG Negative (Normal is Negative) SGG 1.
Avatar f tn His liver enzyme test ALT was 17. Well within normal limits. The lab only tested bilirubin in the urine, not his blood.
Avatar n tn I frequently use urine test strips to test my urine when I feel unwell that may be waterwork problem. Have had kidney stone surgically removed in the past. Nitrite on the stick will mean that it is a bladder problem - usually Cystitis. Positive leucocyte reading on the stick with or without signs of protein, usually means that there is a bacterial infection. If the doctor said you have a uti (urinary tract infection) this is anywhere from the kidneys down.
