( cant find any. My urine test was done at a labratory not in the doctors office.

I have a pack of urine strips my sister in law who is a nurse gave me. I notice if my urine is concentrated, the bilirubin seems to go up a shade to trace. Once I start drinking, it shows no bilirubin. My wife tried one as well, and it seemed to do the same thing. Is this normal? Does concentrated urine make the bilirubin strip hard to read? If it were really an issue, would drinking make it show negative? Thanks.

Why not buy a pack of urine reagent test strips that you can use to test your urine for protein. A pack of 100 strips can be had for not too much money ($12.00 to around $50 depending on the brand). Find them through Google. Then if you see that you do have protein in your urine, you could use the strip as evidence to show your primary doctor that you need a referral to a nephrologist. I like the idea of using strips for testing at different times of day.

i repeated the test at a different lab my urine PH came 8 btw and esterase/nitrite came negative, my problem is that sometimes i get urge to go without really having that big amount to empty, i know i can hold more for longer!

The only advice I can give is to request a confirmation screen where the urine is sent off for analysis instead of the standard test strips. Also, you can request a blood test and offer to pay for it yourself if necessary. Drug testing is not an exact science.

I have been monitoring my urine with 10-Parameter test strips. The last few days I have had a lot of blood in my urine (looks like diluted Heinz ketchup). Whereas everything else (except for high specific gravity) was ok previously, the protein has showed from + to ++. If this due to there being more blood? To boil down the issue, Genentech tells doctors to measure protein using dipstick urine analysis (Which blood will cause a "false positive" of sorts, its a simple test using strips like you would to test the pH of a pool). Her oncologist does not see any point in exploring alternative testing because that is what Genentech says to do.

But if you really did have something wrong like a gallstone or other bile blockage, then the urine test will remain constant in showing the problem on repeated tests. If you didn't have the strip stored properly, the testing chemicals on the strip will become compromised/contaminated and will give you the crazy results. Be sure your test strips are stored in a small, airtight container. And that you use a clean urine collection cup as well.

You can buy on line Urine Reagent Strips quite cheaply. There are some that test the urine just for glucose, but they do not give an accurate recording of how much sugar there is in the blood stream. These sticks are a good indicator, but they will only detect glucose in the urine if there is above a certain level (fairly high) of glucose in the urine. An HbA1c blood test shows average blood glucose levels over a sustained period (about a 3 month period).

I have been scared of ngu or some other form of infection. I have used multiply uti test strips which test white blood cell count in urine. None have been positive, one or two showed trace amount of wbc (I've taken about 18 tests). Would these show an infection (ngu) if one existed???

The test strips that I use are 10LG Parameter Urine Reagent Strips which can be bought on line at a reasonable price. These strips detect Leukocytes, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ketone, Bilirubin, Glucose. You can get strips that detect less. The one that would be of interest if someone is suffering from dehydration is the Specific Gravity reading.

Drink lots of fluids etc and see if it helps. Sometimes cranberry can help an infection! If you have access to urine test strips this might give you some info. on what is going on. If your going to see the doctor any way next week you might as if you could come in and do a UA (urine analysis) to make sure you are not in an infection! What is epididymitis?

Yes, a urine quick test can tell you if you have WBC, but not if you have gonorrhea, chlamydia, NGU or another infection that could be causing that. You need specific tests for that. If you have concerns about those, you need to let the doctor know so they can do specific tests.

I again bought urine strips that detect blood only, and the strips shows non-hemolyzed trace only after drinking beer or coffee. If I drink a glass of water with a tsp of baking soda, the test strips come out negative. I guess my question is "is it harmful to drink a glass of baking soda water daily?", or should I return to the doctor and go thru kidney x-rays, cystoscopy, etc again? I frequently use urine test strips to test my urine when I feel unwell that may be waterwork problem. Have had kidney stone surgically removed in the past. Nitrite on the stick will mean that it is a bladder problem - usually Cystitis. Positive leucocyte reading on the stick with or without signs of protein, usually means that there is a bacterial infection. If the doctor said you have a uti (urinary tract infection) this is anywhere from the kidneys down.

Im in the UK and it seems the first step is the urine test according to my NHS walk in centre but you can ask for the blood test straight away if your really worried....but I think that depends on any symptoms. Ive heard different opinions on the urine test though, I have been told that its no good by one or two people but then afew others have said its fine for an intial check.
