Common Questions and Answers about Urine test results diabetes

Avatar m tn Docors ususally test for this by measuring microalbumin (which is a protein) in the urine. If this lab value becomes elevated, your doctor will typically start you on an ACE inhibitor, which will help slow the progression of diabetic nephropathy, along with good control of blood sugars. If you are having trouble maintaining good blood sugar levels, I suggest you go to your doctor and rework your medication and diabetes control plan. Keeping your sugars under control is crucial.
Avatar n tn i even have an antique book from 1929 published by the Joslin Clinic about diabetes and in the front faceplate they show the colors you compare the urine test to for a reading, back then you even had to boil the water and chemicals together to get your result which meant no testing when not at home. Diabetes care has progressed rather nicely, in that complications don't show up so soon and diabetics live much longer now. So don't be worried about home blood sugar tests.
Avatar m tn Around two months ago I started seeing a nephrologist to see if the blood is coming from the kidneys, and around the same time my UA test started showing protein in my urine. Bellow are the results of my last UA and a 24hr urine protein. With this results, Is the protein in my urine secondary to the gross hematuria or am I having protein in my urine because some how my kidneys are not working right??? Any help will be really appreciated.
Avatar n tn Urine test reveals, more often than not, the presence of diabetes. That was certainly the case with me. However, in early stages or in the pre-diabetes stage your kidneys may not be 'spilling out" the excess glucose from your blood and one may get a false sense security. This situation can last for a number of years with consequent damage to your organs by the high blood glucose.
Avatar m tn Are GLUC results and normal blood indicators strong enough reasons to exclude diabetes and say that I have no diabetes at all, or not? P.S. I started the analysis mostly for endocrinological disease, appears I have high TSH(4.76, normal 0.4 - 3.77) and FT4(21.71, normal 12.87 - 20.6) I can provide more details from analysis if necessary. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hello I wanted to see if any one can help me with my results. I had a urine dip and came back With the following results WBC 2+ Ketones 2+ Uro 2+ Is this something to be alarmed ? I currently have erythema nodosm and can’t find the cause of this, what can my urine results be related to ? I don’t have diabetes and I’m not having UTI symptoms at all.
Avatar m tn Hi Super Sally. I got my results yesterday & everything was fine! I must have had a spike in glucose when I did the urine test & the urine test cannot be that accurate.
Avatar n tn i did a urine test recently and the results showed that there were traces of blood . The result showed 3-5 in range (/hpf) and <3 in ref.range. I do not know what does it mean. However, when I see the doctor, he said that it might be due to inflammation of the kidney and he said it might be due to some fever when I was young or other things that cause it. But, he told me not to worry and nothing was wrong as I did not experience any pain while passing urine. Is this true?
Avatar f tn They are also looking to see if you may be showing signs of diabetes or dehydration as well.
Avatar n tn Ketones and proteins in the urine can result from many factors, like excessive exercise, dehydration, high protein diet, kidney problems, and diabetes. Diabetes in the initial stages does not produce glucose in urine. However neither will it bring about ketones and proteins in the urine at an early stage. These are generally the signs of uncontrolled diabetes. You need to check the blood sugar fasting (8-12 hours) and two hours after a proper meal.
Avatar f tn The alcohol test may not be able to distinguish between ketones in diabetes and alcohol. So for sure ketones could affect the test results. You need to discuss this specifically with the pain clinic doctors. You may need to show them proof about your blood sugar levels / ketones. You may need to do ketone testing as well. http://www.shouselaw.com/ketosis.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 9 years old and has had juvenile diabetes for a year now. Her urine test came back that there are microprotiens in her urine. I am a little nervous about this. Any help would be great!
Avatar n tn A urine test is not as accurate as a blood test, but it does show for sure if sugar is spilling over into the urine because there is not enough insulin working. So it will without doubt show if the child is extremely out of good glucose control. But if things are borderline, I don't know if you will see a positive test. A glucose test from blood is much more accurate.
Avatar n tn Last night he tested positive for keytones in his urine. According to the test strips he had moderate to large ketones. Today he continues to test positive but with definate large results. I took him to see his pediatric doctor today and he actually call in an associate to look at him, also. Although together the two doctors ran all kinds of test on my grandson all they could really find wrong with him was large levels of keytones, a fever, and general flu like symtoms.
Avatar f tn I had to fast for a minimum of 3 hrs before my blood test (I took it yesterday) the drink make me feel almost drunk so I am worried what the results will be...
172023 tn?1334672284 Even though a test for hyperadrenocorticism was performed a couple of years ago I think that it would be a good idea to repeat it since a lot can change in a couple of years for a dog with their accelerated life spans. It would not hurt to test for diabetes insipidus either. Diabetes Insipidus can occur with other diseases and is very controllable with Desmopressin Acetate.
Avatar n tn Test strips that change color to reveal the amount of a substance in a liquid (for example, sugar in urine, ketones in urine, certain meds/drugs in urine, high-school "litmus paper" tests for the amount of acid or base), give a general indication of how much of that substance is present in the liquid. The tests that give an exact number (such as a modern blood sugar meter) gives a more precise indication.
Avatar f tn They did not send the urine to a lab. I do not have an infection as the urine strips test for leukocytes (which are fighting infection cells)..
Avatar m tn Every year I go for routine check up and i am a little confused with my blood sugar test results. I have been monitoring my results since 2007. back in 2007 normal range in Canada was 3.6-6.0. Since then it has changed to 3.6-5.5 my results in the last few years have been as follows: 2007 : fasting 5.8 A1C 5.6 2008 : fasting 5.4 A1C 5.7 2009 : fasting 5.2 A1C 5.9 (at home on meter 4.7) 2010 : fasting 5.2 A1C 5.7 2011 : fasting 5.2 A1C 5.7 2012 : fasting 5.9 A1C 5.5 2013 : fasting 5.
