A urine test is not as accurate as a blood test, but it does show for sure if sugar is spilling over into the urine because there is not enough insulin working. So it will without doubt show if the child is extremely out of good glucose control. But if things are borderline, I don't know if you will see a positive test. A glucose test from blood is much more accurate.
I kNOW that blood test is more accurate than urine test and can detect pregnancy after 24 from implantation while urine test can give false positive results and false positive may be due to:
1-chemical pregnancy
2-missed reaction time(too long to read)
3-chemical interference from FERTILITY drugs having HCG ,medication like trankilizer phenothiazine,contamination with blood or gross amount of protien,

If diabetes is your concern you can always test your glucose at home with a home meter. Home A1c test kits are available too but their accuracy has not been fully proven to my liking to where I can trust their results.

Pregnancy test kits are basically qualitative kind of test which just tests presence of hCG hormone in the urine of pregnant woman because this hormone is only produced during pregnancy among women. But this pregnancy test depends upon the particular level of hCG in the blood.
So sometime it may be possible that it can give you false negative results during early days of pregnancy only because of un- sufficient level of hCG to make test positive.
I had to do 3urine test that came back high sugar in my urine then I did my fasting glucose tollarance test at 10wks and came back neg everything was fine :) then the dr just asked if I wash with soap or use wipes or lotion down there (I don't ) but that can affect it too. Don't worry you also possibily didn't wipe correctly doing the clean catch.
