Avatar f tn What's going on Zoe, is your dog has something wrong. This may be a urinary tract infection, and if left untreated, could spread to her kidneys (this can happen) So really she does need to see a vet and get her urine tested. Then perhaps a prescribed antibiotic, if it is a UTI. If so it might be solved very quickly, quite cheaply, and with little fuss, and she might be back to good health again within a few days. That was the case with my dog, who got a UTI a few years ago.
172023 tn?1334672284 Which, in your opinion, would be the best follow up to see if he has stones (last year a plain radiograph was normal when he had blood in his urine). Should he have another xray (which might not show anything again), or an xray with contrast, or an ultrasound? Which would be the most cost effective way, considering that one year ago his xray showed nothing and he was very symptomatic? They want to start with another plain film in 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn This is perfectly normal and won't harm them at all. Most male dogs who have any interest in females (whether they've been neutered or not) do this. They are 'scenting' the female's hormonal condition. You might notice that they 'tremble' their mouths when they do this. They are 'tasting' the scent by doing this. It might look weird to humans, but makes perfect dog-sense. And is normal, nothing to worry about.
Avatar f tn I noticed tonight that after I scolded her that there was pee with redish pink blood in it in little drops on the floor. So I did a test. I put out a pee pad and scolded her enough to get her to pee and sure enough there is blood in her urine. I don't think this is normal. If anyone has any thought I would greatly appreciate it. This was kind of a gift for our 4yr. old son's birthday in Sept. So we haven't had her very long.
9644933 tn?1407768890 Overactive Adrenal glands (Cushing’s disease, hyperadrenocorticism) or corticosteroid medications often cause low specific gravity urine in dogs, but I realise your vet has already probably checked for this and has discounted it. Diabetes insipidus, a rare form of diabetes, will also cause pets to produce a urine with low specific gravity. This disease is usually due to a failure of your pet’s pituitary gland to produce the hormone ADH.
Avatar f tn i've had dogs on hills RX for a medical problem...thats what its for..if ur other dog doesn't have a problem and is doing well on his regular food i wouldn't change his diet...unecessary change to his digestive sytem thats not medically warranted.i didn't switch my healthy dog to it...have that situation right now!
Avatar f tn t test if it is a UTI anymore because the bacteria would not appear in the urine and also they said that it would be probably useless to do an ultrasound. They advised to keep giving the antibiotics and wait for a week see if it goes away. The following days there was still blood in her urine, sometimes a lot, sometimes less, yesterday her urine was clear and we hoped it was over but today it looks like pure blood again.
5773548 tn?1383947668 i dont think i ever had to wait for my appt after my first pee just drive there. My sis is a vet tech and when she geta urine samples from our dogs to test at work she puts them in the fridge for preaervation. Im asking bc i have work for a few hrs before my appt...
172023 tn?1334672284 Struvite stones form in alkaline urine. You would use medications that acidify the urine hoping they will keep the magnesium ammonium phosphate crystals dissolved and prevent them from precipitating out in the urine. Examples of such medications would be ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and dl-methionine. Some of the other less common types of stones actually form in an acidic urine, so with these, you would want to make the urine more alkaline.
Avatar f tn I also wondered if there was any way to test the "sweat" in case it really was urine, but I'm not sure if it is because the blanket she has slept on was white, and she left no yellow spot, it was just wet. I also checked the article, and now I'm not sure if she is exactly sweating?
Avatar m tn Is it possible the dogs are having accidents in the house because your father is too sick to let them out regularly?
Avatar f tn It could be Diabetes, that is usually the first thing to look at with these signs. He could also have a UTI infection, but most male dogs don't get them, but they can get them. If it is diabetes, you would give him a shot twice a day and maybe some pills, if it a UTI, then a round of antibiotis. I hate that as our beloved pets get old they get ill, but so do we. Please let us know what you learn.
1531001 tn?1292034237 Even though his BUN was normal, he is loosing protein in his urine. When these dogs loose weight, they loose it quickly and you can really notice. I figured kidney or cancer when I took him in. I've been in contact with a Vet friend who is pretty Greyhound savy. Used to be, kidney failure called for ID food. She advised me not any more. It's not the amount of protein you have to watch but the source of the protein and the keeping the level of phosphorus down.
Avatar m tn My dog is now her usual happy self, she is eating, urinating, drinking water and there is absolutely no blood in her urine. I probably did not collect all of the stones because I had no idea they were there until I picked up the last poop pad there I saw them. My little ShihTzu is five years old and Pedialyte will be on hand in my pantry at all times. After the stones are evaluated I will ask the vet for instructions on making my own meals for my pet.
Avatar n tn hi, I have a 7 1/2 yr old great dane. About a month ago he had blood in his urine, A LOT. He also fell a couple of times the week prior. I brought him to the vet to be checked. Dx: UTI and swollen prostate. He was put on an antibiotic and antiinfamatory for 14 days. He's been doind well up until this morning. It was sprinkling/raining and icy out prob 20-30°. I brought him for his usual a.m. Walk. Half way thru the walk he began limping, front leg.
Avatar f tn If you took a test and it was negative, did you take it too early? If it was in the proper time frame, and you took it correctly (with concentrated urine), I would trust it unless you think your urine might have been too dilute. My dogs and probably my cats knew when I was pregnant. But they didn't act very excited about it.
Avatar m tn My two dogs (30 lb beagle & 62 lb pit mix) got into a box of raisin bran. When I got home from work I discovered this and IMMEDIATELY rushed them to the vet ER. The vet induced vomiting and gave them activated charcoal to mitigate the toxins. The ER vet said it appeared as if all of the raisins were discharged during the forced vomiting session and that he didn't think this would be anything to worry about.
Avatar n tn Hi. I have 2 Jack Russells that stay outside during the day and do their business outside and at night come in to sleep. They are taken in at 7 PM after being made to pee and are put to bed at 9:30 PM after another pee. Sometimes (once a week) the female (who is spayed), pees on the blanket where she sleeps. She sleeps together with her brother in a dog bed. Both dogs hate peeing on the cold wet grass at night but do fine during the day.
Avatar n tn Our female dog, believed to be 10-13 yrs, hasn't eaten in five days and has been urinating in our home. Even after she's been taken out, an hour or two later we find huge puddles of urine in our laundry room. She's never had a problem and goes out on a regular basis. We're very worried. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn The doctors think i am crazy she does have a conditions called vur reflux in kidneys but her urine test an blood test have come back normal so they are sending us home. I cant figure out where they are coming from. The come eery 3-10 day spike up to 104.5 at the highest and last about 3-8 hours then go away for 3-10 more days.
