Urine test for type 1 diabetes

Common Questions and Answers about Urine test for type 1 diabetes

Avatar f tn s well child visit, I asked his doctor about the possibility of him being diabetic. They always test his urine for sugar, and told me that he didn't have any sugar in his urine, so he was fine. Is this definitive? His checkup is coming soon and I would like to know if I should ask for a blood test. Thanks!
Avatar n tn My daughter is 9 years old and has had juvenile diabetes for a year now. Her urine test came back that there are microprotiens in her urine. I am a little nervous about this. Any help would be great!
Avatar n tn My coworkers said I need to get him in because these could be signs of diabetes. My father, 5 uncles, 3 aunts, and 2 cousins have type 2, but I've only heard of 2 people in the family having type 1 - my great uncle and my father's cousin. Should I be asking the doctor about diabetes, or is it pretty unlikely that he'd have it without the frequent thirst and urination? I don't want to inquire if my coworkers are way off base.
Avatar n tn My fiance has type 1 diabetes. He takes pretty good care of himself. He is almost fanatical about checking his blood sugar. On his one touch ultra some times it says something about keytones. So my question is.. What are Keytones and how are you supposed to test for them.
Avatar n tn You mention that diabetes does run in the family, so if you have access to a blood glucose monitor, you may want to check her bg level yourself. You can also purchase urine test strips that indicate sugar levels, however they are several hours old, and also if ketones are present in the urine. If she is showing ketones, this is extremely urgent and you should seek immediate medical attention.
307500 tn?1302116146 Says because I have Clusters of AutoImmune Diseases I most likly have type 1 diabetes. This week He has run lost of test, blood, and heart tests and blood flow. I have been put on every poral pill and it hasn't dropped my BS. MY lst A1C was 7.0, I have been on a very low carb diet for yrs, I think if I weren't my BS would be alot higher all the time. My ? is could I be type 1 because of all the Auto disease and the age of 16 diagnoses?
Avatar f tn Appt meant for a totally unrelated cause, and I left with him being tested for Type 1 diabetes. Being a typical mom, I am worried sick. So I figured I could get a little info here. They tested him because while at the appointment I mentioned that he seemed to have lost a lot of weight recently. I wasn't sure if maybe he was just growing taller or was getting skinnier. They measured and weighed him, and then compared it to his visit at the end of September (last time we had been there).
Avatar m tn Totally agree. We have a diabetes forum here if you need it when you follow up on that - https://www.medhelp.org/forums/Diabetes---Type-2/show/46 We also have a type 1, but I'm assuming you will have type 2, if you have it, given that you're old enough to have sex lol. Seriously - follow up on this very soon. Untreated diabetes can cause a LOT of problems that will make STDs look like nothing.
Avatar m tn I had following breakfast 5 to 6 Idli (South Indian Dish) 2 Butter Toast 1 cup tea 2 Banana 1/2 Apple Now I was asked to come again at 11.15 A.M (i.e 2 hours after breakfast) for blood and urine test. Not knowing what to do for two hours, I sat at some isolated chair in the clinic and did 20 minutes silent laughter exercise. (BTW now i am very much can do laughter yoga by myself alone). Samples were taken as per schedule.
Avatar f tn Symptoms of Type 1 diabetes are extreme thirst, frequent urination, drowsiness, sugar in urine, vision changes, increased appetite, weight loss, fruity odor on breath, and labored breathing. Since your child does have two of the above symptoms, you should have him checked as soon as possible. Having him checked is easy and relatively painless and if he does have diabetes, it would be better to find out now before his symptoms get any worse.
Avatar n tn I'm 31 and have had type 1 diabetes for 16 years - so far, no complications. I've struggled over the last year with Interstitial Cystitis symptoms (had pelvic floor therapy) and recurrent group B strep in urine cultures. It is common for me to experience a small tear in my perineum area and it usually takes a week to heal. I've been told this is because I have fragile tissue due to diabetes. It's been a week since I last "tore" and it hasn't healed.
Avatar n tn Your child does need you to keep looking for/ fighting for good care for these symptoms. Diabetes can be treated successfully.
Avatar f tn I would guess that her presentation (not overweight, and presenting with acute symptoms of diabetes) and her age would be more typical of typical of type 1 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes usually develops in older people, who are typically overweight and it develops over time, not so acutely. THere is also a type 1.5, which is an autoimmune type of diabetes (like type 1), but develops in older people (not children). Treatment for this may also be insulin, though oral meds may work for a while.
1756129 tn?1317374033 I have type 1 diabetes. I started birth control three weeks ago. I have been having safe sex all but once and it ws very shortly and he did not ejaculate. Now being about 2 weeks since having sex I got my wisdom teeth out, I was put under, and have been having high blood sugars that I cannot get down since. I checked my ketones and in the morning and they were high but during the day they aren't. If possibly pregnant how far along do you have to be to have ketones show?
Avatar n tn If you test often, you can catch both problems and normalize them. I send you congratulations, and wishes for a healthy pregnancy. I am a type 1 diabetic since childhood, and I had two healthy pregnancies resulting in two beautiful and healthy children. The real key, from all that I have read, is good glucose control during the whole pregnancy, especially at the very first and near the end of the pregnancy. Best wishes to you!
Avatar f tn In pregnant women who are eating adequate amounts of food, ketones in the urine usually point to Type 1 diabetes. In Type 1, there isn't enough insulin produced (or it's produced very sporadically) to break down carbohydrates into sugars, so the person loses weight and the body begins metabolizing fat and muscle. Or if you're not eating well, it sounds like you need to bump up your calorie intake. Are you scheduled to meet with a dietician?
Avatar f tn Im a type 1 diabetic for 13 years. Talk to your doc about it. Its not that bad when its just the gestational diabetes.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed by a glucose test and a urine test. I have been a type 1 diabetic for 16 years now, and I think the fact that it was caught before it was out of control is why I have been able to do so well. Your pediatrician should be able to do a urine test and find out.
Avatar n tn A urine test is not as accurate as a blood test, but it does show for sure if sugar is spilling over into the urine because there is not enough insulin working. So it will without doubt show if the child is extremely out of good glucose control. But if things are borderline, I don't know if you will see a positive test. A glucose test from blood is much more accurate.

Avatar n tn Hi Dalki, Yes, in time your doctor will likely know for sure which type of diabetes you have. In addition to Type 1 and Type 2, there seems to be a type 1.5 ... tho' there's some thought that 1.5s are just in the early stages of Type 1. We DMers (folks with diabetes mellitis) and our docs often call that a honeymoon phase. I hope you're feeling better now that your bloodsugar has begun to come down. Things may remain volatile for a while, so try to be patient with yourself.
Avatar n tn My question is, can she be diagnosed from just a urine test? Or should I request that she do the long diabetes check in a lab? Can diabetes come on slowly or really quick? This is a child that HATES the doctor's office. Diabetes had such an impact in my own life just watching a mother struggle with it, I am wondering if I am over-reacting. I understand you all are not doctors, I just would like some opinions on what I should do when I take her to the Dr.
Avatar f tn I have sugar in my urine most check ups, I've had two 3 hour diabetes tests because my dad and aunties are type 1 diabetics but I passed both :) hope it's the same for you
Avatar f tn Thanks CindyLovesTito just saw ur reply now. R they checking for just gestational diabetes or for the type 1 and 2 as well?
