I don't understand what the cut off levels mean for a urine test and blood test. I seen one that states cut off level 2000 for oxycontin but that was all I seen. Are the cut off levels the same for blood tests as for urine tests?
Could it be he was just trying to trick you to see if you were an Oxy user? I assume this was a urine test. So let me know if it was done right there and if not, ask for a copy of the results since he could now discharge you on grounds you broke any contract they often have you sign. The lowest level they used to be able to detect things like Vicodin (hydrocodone) without spending too much for better tests was 100 PPM. Good luck.
I have passed every test for 3 years on my bi-monthly urine screen. All of a sudden I am showing positive for oxycontin and I have NEVER taken this med.
Now I know that actiq,opana,stadol,and oxycontin are synthentic oipioids. Now I have taken a blood test for oxycontin only to make sure this is negative and a true false positive because I do not take this pain med. I am so upset because I have had to go through withdrawls and they are worse than the pain.
My doctor has an assistant, not a nurse, who assists her with checking patient vitals, etc. the assistant makes frequent demands for a urine test...4 in the last 8 months which seem excessive to me. She gets quite testy if I am unable to comply and has left an unpleasant message on my phone once. Today she brought me a full paper cup of water and insisted I drink it. I get urine drug tested every month when i go to get my prescriptions from a pain management clinic. I have tested positive for either Hydrocodone or Oxycontin the last 6 times I tested. I havent taken Hydrocodone in 5 years and Ive never taken Oxycontin. The dr doesnt believe me and Im probably gonna be released because of it. I cant make him believe me. He told us recently that he wanted to start using again. We asked him to do a urine test to see if he was using, because we told him we would not allow him to live at our home again if he was using. Since your test was sent off too the lab. they will be able to confirm either a neg. or postive for this med. They are very percise, that is why it was sent off for further testing. I know someone who recently tested pos. for methadone also, it was sent off too the lab, same situation has you minus the tylenol, when it came back it was neg. I know how expensive these test are. All patients at the office I was going too had to have their test results sent to lab. on a monthly basis.

These urine test have cutoff levels and depending on the type of test you get it may require a trace amount of the drug to be present for a positive result and then there are the test that require a much higher cutoff point or level of medication that has to be present for it to come out positive. The VA has done extensive studies on this matter and I will also point you to that link too.

Why do you feel you can't talk to your doctor? Has this type of thing happened before? Over the past 4 years I've had a few mishaps with medication and my doctor was very understanding. As I'm sure you know, methadone has a long half-life so how do you know when you need to start the oxycontin? And where are you getting the oxycontin? You could really jeopardize your relationship with your doctor by doing this.
