urine-test

Avatar m tn 24-hour urine calcium excretion test This test looks at how much calcium is being excreted in the urine. For this test, you collect all your urine over 24 hours in a large container for laboratory analysis to measure the amount of calcium in the total volume of urine. Excessive urinary calcium excretion is a common cause of bone loss and osteoporosis.

Avatar n tn My husband has had osteoporosis for 7 years being diagnosed @ age 55. It is quite severe and Fosomax , calcium and Vit D has not helped. What could be causing the continual decline of his bone health? No doctor ever addresses the underlying problem , if there is one.
Avatar f tn //philaholisticclinic.com/natural-treatment-for-osteoporosis/ Because supplmenting with anything can impact you, we do recommend you consult with someone. Even a nutritionist. Calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium are important for bone health. Recommendations of what amount to take would be best with someone that knows your medical history. Even a nutritionist could be of benefit to you. Are you doing weight bearing exercise by the way? This video is helpful. https://health.clevelandclinic.
Avatar n tn Can you get thyroid test results from the retired GP? That would be so helpful for comparison in evaluating how your thyroid status has changed (or not). I'd try to gather some history.
Avatar m tn I read an article that says if your lactose intolerant you can retrain your body to eat and drink dairy again by using Lactagen and therefore avoid getting Osteoporosis. I knew something would eventually come to light.

521161 tn?1212365704 Thank you for your response, your information is very helpful. Here is a little more information in response to your comments... My PTH has occasionally been high, Vitamin D was low but is being treated and is stable (stable for 5 yrs now), calcium is normal, and all other thyroid tests are normal. The only other abnormal level is occasionally a slightly low white cell count. No history of an eating disorder, use of steroids or Depo injection (known to lower bone mass).
Avatar f tn I have MSK and was diagnosed young with osteoporosis, no cause has been found. Does MSK cause bone loss or prevent someone from reaching peak bone mass? I leach calcuim in my urine (amongst other things) and have chronically low vit D levels as well, would MSK be considered a contributing factor to a metabolic bone disorder?
429778 tn?1205273336 Thank you sooo much for your confirmation. I have been stressing about this for a few weeks when no one (other than you and my doc) would believe me! Even the people working at the imaging center!! Well onto my first Endo appt tomorrow for a magic pill to make all my problems go away. LOL Yeah sure. Prob right back here to cry to all of my new friends that don't even know me. But my only ones since I have been in bed for so long I lost all my work friends...and any others.
Avatar f tn Generally this is used for the immune system -- it is found in highest amounts in colostrum, the first part of our immune building found in breast milk. It is used for other things, sometimes for iron, but still mostly for building the proper bacterial foundation for a strong immune system. Don't see how it will build bone.
Avatar m tn after two more months, it shows 120/70. Also, she has osteoporosis due to vitamin-D deficiency (around 14 ng/ml), for which she is taking medicines (vitamin-D, potassium & phosphorous tablets) as per advice of an orthopedic doctor. So, overall, are we on the right track in terms of the treatment & is there anything to worry about ?
Avatar f tn I would check first to make sure your insurance company will pay for the test. The test rules out osteopenia and osteoporosis. I know I have osteopenia and many other women and even men with CFS and fibro have osteopenia or osteoporosis as well.
Avatar m tn My doctor said TSH is the only test for thyroid now and not symptoms. Really...they have figured out how not to be doctors just lab readers. They should turn that job over to the receptionist and save themselves some more time. All I know is Synthyroid must be wineing and dinning the docs really well to get them to throw out their training and just read this one silly test. Any help would be appreciated.
Nicelady Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.

They have never been elevated before, but I was complaining of being tired, even after 8-9 hours of sleep, so he ran a bunch of blood work and found it. I would be interested in learning more about what happened with you. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I'm a 59 y/o postmenopausal female that was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis with a T score of -3.2. Was sent to an endocrine doc and did several blood tests as well. The doc wanted to start me on hormone therapy and injections based on my bone density test. I was prescribed the estrogen Duavee 20 mg daily and Prolia 60 mg shots every 6 months. Has anyone had experience with Duavee or Prolia?
