At 9 months I did a herpes/HIV/syphilus blood test and a urine test for gonorrhea and chlamydia. All were negative, however, I have a concern. The internet tells me that you aren't supposed to urinate for at least 3 hours before taking the urine test for it to be accurate. On the three occasions that I took the test I am pretty sure that I had gone to the bathroom within that three hour, pre-test window. Should I get retested with a swab?
I had protected sex on Friday night, but noticed some slight pain in my penis on Sunday afternoon. I decided to get a NAAT urine test for Gonorrhea and chlamydia just to be safe. I gave the urine sample on Wednesday afternoon. Is that enough time for the possible disease to have set in so a test will yield an accurate result (4 1/2 days)? I couldn't find this information anywhere.
I recently received and gave oral sex from another male. The test that was done required urine only - no swab. Is the urine test going to identify all the possible cases (all areas)?
Hi Dr HHH, I am from Singapore. I recently took a PCR Urine test for chlamydia & Gonorrhea. The result came back negative for both. i had hold my urine for 4 hours before the test. However, during the time when i was collecting my urine, i did not collect the first catch / the first part of my urine. I actually collected the "mid stream" of my urine instead. Is this gonna affect my test result since its was a "Mid Stream" urine sample?
Thank you yes I tested for all stds at 6 weeks and had a follow up hiv test at 4 months.
How sensitive is a culture test for chlamydia/gonorrhea using urine sample? 50%? 75%? I could not find a good reference. Does anyone know where one can get a PCR test for Trichomoniasis? Thanks!
I just got back from the doctors and they say I have urethritis and are sending my urine for a chlamydia and gonorrhea test. If I do have either chlamydia or gonorrhea is it possible that it is from the activity 5 weeks ago or is it more likely that it is from the more recent encounter. I know that my girlfriend is monogamus so i have 100% ruled that out. Also, I have read that it is possible to get urethritis from chemicals like lotions and spermicides entering the urethra.
I am Male 42, from Pakistan I had unprotected sex vaginal and slight anal penetration once (big mistake ) with a sex worker on 27 Sept 13, on 29 Sept I felt severe itching in my groins and irritation in anus. I took 750 mg Azithromycin 29 sept night followed by 250 mg Azithromycin with 400 mg cefixime on 30 Sept morning. I waited for 24 hours The symptoms didn't resolve rather I started having severe irritation after peeing.
After one month, I did a urine test for chlamydia and gonorrhea and the results came negative. I gave my urine in the morning at the Lab without urinating for 6 hours before the test but I am concerned if the results are accurant since I filled all the cup . I read in some blogs that it should be15-20ml. Does the quantity of urine affects the results? should I test again? I had a itching on the head of the penis for 2 weeks after exposure without any pain when urinating.
I tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia both using the urine PCR method at 5 weeks post exposure and was negative. 1) However for the test, the urine was not a first catch sample, i urinated abit before collecting the sample. Will it affect the result? 2) I only hold my urine for about 2hrs, will that be enough? 3) Will antibiotics like clarithromycin, cephalexin and lysozyme chloride affect the urine test?
Dear Doctor, I went to my doctor with a complain of burning sensation while urinating. He took the urine sample for testing and gave me doxyline and ciprohexal antibiotics. Urine test shows high white blood cell count but it was not tested for gonorrhea. So doctor again took the sample of urine for testing but i was already on antibiotics for 5 days.Eventually the test came negative for both gonorrhea and chlamydia but the burning sensation was still there.
feeling inside my urethra and a general feeling that I need to empty my bladder... but recently tested negative for both chlamydia and gonorrhea (NAA tests). My question is would this test pick up Trichomoniasis or NGU? What other possibilities could account for the feeling? Could a non sexually transmitted UTI be a possibility?
But I have red spot and buring sensation On penis head in third time within last 5 months I think I did not test for chlamydia and gonorrhea so these will cause these kind of symtoms?
It can take up to 2 weeks for all symptoms to go away. can't say what the liquid is. testing while on medication can flaw the test.
The test will not be back until Monday, but they went ahead and treated me for gonorrhea and chlamydia. My symptoms were in line with a gonorrhea diagnosis. I had unprotected sex on Monday 3/29. The girl says that she doesn't have g and c. I was wondering if this could have layed dormant in me for sometime. I had no symptoms before Wednesday (2 days after the sexual encounter), but have had unprotected sex within the last year and a half with another girl.
No you can not get a STD from sweat, STD=Sexually Transmitted. Call your Dr and ask him what he tested you for. A urine or swab is needed for gonorrhea and chlamydia.
They ran bloodwork for hep b and c and vdrl. He did a swab for chlamydia and gonorrhea. I was at the very end of my period and there was some blood on the swab. My Dr. has been an obgyn for 29 years so I do trust him, but I asked for copies of the reports and the quest report says since there was blood there could be a chance of a false negative. When I called the Drs. office the nurse said my results were negative. I am just not sure where to go from here.
I need to know if your GF has been treated for gonorrhea and chlamydia since the time you were diagnosed and treated. The key to resolving this once and for all is that you both need to be treated at about the same time with the same therapy and to complete therapy before the two of you has sex again. Once that is accomplished, you will be in the clear.
The NAAT tests - urine or swab - only detect an active infection, and you wouldn't have had gonorrhea or chlamydia for 7 years without knowing it. They can detect dead bacteria dna for around 3 weeks to a month after the infection is cured, and then the body eliminates it.
It's currently 10 days since I took 1 gram of Azithromycin for what seemed like chlamydia. My lab results aren't in yet but I was prescribed and took Azithromycin the same day I went to the clinic for the testing. The symptoms I had at the time were painful urination and the tip of the penis was red/swollen. Later on the same day I took Azithromycin I started noticing cloudy/clear discharge (stained yellow) for the first time and this lasted for about 3 or 4 days.
Hey Doc, I posted a question about 5 days ago regarding the treatment of Gonorrhea and chlamydia with 2g of Azithromycin. My doc did a urine test and told me to come back in for a checkup 2 weeks from when i took the meds to get test results. I took the tests before i took the meds. I'm a little anxious and have one final question. Could i contract chlamydia or Gonrorhea from this particular instance.I'm a 24 year old male and I was fooling around with a girl after a party.
I am not sure if the urine test you had was for gonorrhea and chlamydia, for white blood cells (signs of inflammation seen with NGU) or both. Most probably and based on your symptoms, I would have treated you with either doxycycline or azithromycin for the problem you describe 1. Does this sound like a possible STD? Yes, what you describe could be NGU or less likely gonorrhea a acquired through oral sex.
