Urine test for calcium

Common Questions and Answers about Urine test for calcium

Avatar n tn Sounds like you have had some evaluation of your urine in the past for high calcium levels. The best test for a "metabolic" evaluation is a 24 hour urine test (where you collect urine in a jar for 24 hrs and the total amount is analyzed for different constituents (i.e. calcium, citrate, magnesium, etc.) It is unusual to have calcium deposition in one area of the bladder where you had a previous procedure and not have other kidney stones.
Avatar m tn 5cms and my body weight was 94kg and dr advised heptral 400mg for one month and repeat lft tests with weight reduce after one month sgot went to 53, sgpt 88 weight was one kg reduced and adv for 6weeks same treatment with heptral 400mg after 6wks my health was upset with one side head rotating feeling dr adv vertigo treatment and almost cleared went for diabetic check in blood and urine urine was nil and blood test shown i am diabetic patience and further audio meter check for right ear
Avatar f tn After several episodes of gross hematuria it was determined that I have bilateral stones. A 24 hr urine test showed elevated calcium and uric acid. I was placed on potassium citrate and hydrochlorothiazide but the medicines have horrific side effects. Also, has anyone experienced elevated blood glucose levels and elevated LFT's after taking these medications?
Avatar n tn There are several types of 24 hour urine tests - it could be for cortisol. calcium, metaphrines, catacholines, creatinine... so unless the doctor told you what it was for - there is no just one test. Only potassium? That seems a bit strange - usually one orders the sodium with it as they work in tandem - but sometimes not - as well renin and aldosterone effect potassium. It should only take a week for your test to get done so you can call the lab and ask for a copy to be sent to you.
Avatar n tn Did they do a blood calcium test or a urine calcium test? Calcium in the blood is all well and good as it shows you have calcium, BUT if you have a high level of calcium in the urine that means your Vit D is not doing its job, and is sending it bye-bye. Yes, see an endocrinologist. Too many doctors have too little knowledge in this field. I am having severe low calcium (rather than high) and low Vit D issues (even after taking supplements) so I know where your concerns come from!
Avatar f tn My Vitamin D from this last blood test was 60 (normal for the first time ever!!), my calcium was 9.6 mg/dl and my PTH was 14pg/ml, my creatinine was .6 mg/dl. My doctor said all of this was in the normal range. It seemed a little weird to me that my PTH was so low (normal was 7-80) and my creatinine was the lowest possible normal number. I just want to know if this is right that this is normal.. Thanks!!
Avatar n tn Different labs use somewhat different ranges for normal. One lab described normal for serum calcium as 8.5 – 10.9 mg/dL. So while your 10.3 was high for the lab you used—over your lab's normal by .1—it would have been in the normal range for the other lab. Your doctor might have taken that into account. With regard to bilirubin in your blood: The other lab listed .2 to 1.9 mg/dL as normal in the blood. Again while your 1.4 was high for your lab—over your lab's normal by .
Avatar n tn Would recheck both in future to make sure consistent.
82861 tn?1333453911 Thanks everyone for this valuable information. And thanks Misfits4me for mentioning that simple urine test, which could make all the difference in treating this terrible disease in the early stages. (I'm copying this all to my computer in case I should ever need this info!
540521 tn?1221699706 Make sure he gets a 24hour urine test which measures minerals, etc. via urine and calcium as well as complete metabollic bloodwork. Also to be under the care of both a good endocrinologist + urlogist., I produce calcium oxalate kidney stones but my calcium is normal. I have had these tests more than once. Kidney stones are herditary; not sure on the thyroid end of things, though sorry. Having calcium levels tested is via simple blood test and/or 24hr urine.
Avatar n tn Hi, You just had a diet with high calcium content and this may be evident in the postprandial (after meal) urine. Phosphaturia may be due to increased calcium phosphate levels in the urine. It may be an isolated case secondary to the intake of food containing high levels of calcium or it could be due to an underlying condition like calcium stones or a urinary tract infection. I suggest that you have a urinalysis done to rule out any possible urinary tract stone and infections.
Avatar f tn Now at 48 I have acute high calcium levels in blood and urine. My 24 urine came back with a note from the lab that the test had to have been done improperly because my levels were impossibly high. I had my submandibular gland removed last May and it was calcified and full of sarcoidosis. So now I have sarcoidosis hypercalcicuria along with fibromyalgia. If you feel like you have the flu from the neck up, sore throats and such check for sarcoidosis. My gland never swelled!!!
Avatar m tn I’ve had elevated calcium since January and my PTH is in the normal range although higher than yours. I’ve also been worried about cancer. The parathyroid specialist I’m seeing ran some cancer tests but not nearly as thorough as your tests. I had a 4D CT scan of the parathyroid and it did show an adenoma. I think you should see a parathyroid specialist if you can. You can still have hyperparathyroidism with a normal PTH.
Avatar f tn With the PTH <10 and the high urine/serum Calcium, you need an evaluation for "non-parathyroid hypercalcemia" -- among the most common causes happens to be cancer, but other causes include sarcoidosis, thyroid disease, adrenal disease, excess vitamin A, among other entities. A PTH-related protein test (some cancers release a PTH like protein) should be done along with serum/urine immunofixation (testing for myeloma - unusual at this age).
Avatar f tn They say anythinf over 140/90-100 is cause for alarm and they test your urine for protein..ive been monitored for preeclampsia my entire pregnancy and have lakes of blood in my placenta and a smaller measuring baby... now I have gestational diabetes so the baby might be normal size now... idk... im almost 35 weeks. ..
2211588 tn?1374138003 On nov 2011 i feel my urine is red so test my urine at that time too, there was 70-90-rbc and albumin showed up after consulting doc he again adviced me to do same and more test like ultrasound, KFT and xray. On uprise all report came normal on very next day, after that, i did urine routine test 2 times randomly when i feel pain on my lower back. and all test showed normal.
Avatar f tn My sestemibi scan was negative for adenomas. What else should my dr. be looking for? They are now checking my urine calcium level and said we would probably just wait a few months and keep checking my levels.
Avatar m tn I am age 50, and have a 12 year history of Borderline high serum calcium levels usually around 10-10.2(range 8.6-10.3), and on a few occasions several years ago a 10.3. My pcp has never commented it as abnormal. However, on my most recent labs, the calcium level came in at 10.4, and she finally commented. A repeat labs done 13 days later revealed a calcium level of 11.1 with a pth intact of 18(range 16-77), and then a referal to endo.
