infection

747152 tn?1240320709 It was very diluted and looks as if it came out as she was almost done, there was a large puddle of urine and then two droplets of urine and blood. This happened in Feb. also, after a vet visit and 350 bucks later, they said she had a bladder infection. ( she is fixed) What could be causing this to reoccur? Could she have stones? In Feb. she got really bad, and even after we started giving her the medicine and special food, it seemed to get worse before it got better.
Avatar f tn Cranberry pills can only help with the pain of a UTI by sweeping the byproducts of the infection out of the urinary tract. It will not treat the actual infection. Urinary tract infections can be terribly difficult to treat for any animal, be it human, canine or anything else. All it takes is one little bacterium to survive treatment and the infection comes right back. That's one reason it's so important to take all antibiotics until they're gone.
Avatar m tn This is a very common problem encountered in dogs and cats. The most likely diagnosis is a bladder stone. Rarely are urinary tract infections so severe that the owner can detect blood. It could be a UTI but either way your vet will need to see her. Expect a urine test and radiographs be recommended. Both of these conditions are quite painful so please seek veterinary attention immediately.
Avatar m tn Leaking urine is a good sign of infection....Take a urine sample with you, it will save on the cost of the clinic drawing the urine themselves...Hope she gets better.
9644933 tn?1407768890 Overactive Adrenal glands (Cushing’s disease, hyperadrenocorticism) or corticosteroid medications often cause low specific gravity urine in dogs, but I realise your vet has already probably checked for this and has discounted it. Diabetes insipidus, a rare form of diabetes, will also cause pets to produce a urine with low specific gravity. This disease is usually due to a failure of your pet’s pituitary gland to produce the hormone ADH.
Avatar n tn hello, i have three dogs, one female and two males (her pups) when the female urinates, the two males lick her urine, is this harmful? all shots are up to date. thank you.
Avatar f tn When the vet drains the gland, if blood is present she gets treated for an infection. Most dogs can just take a simple course of antibiotics for this, but with Pumpkin, we infuse the gland with animax ( through use of a needle), and then she is on antibiotics for a month. The few times she didn't present w/the 'smell symptom' her anal gland got impacted and swelled up like a large cherry on her butt.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone has dogs. I know that this has nothing to do with children, but don't we all treat our dogs/cats like children at times? My question concerns a 81/2 month old female chiweenee. The only potty training issue that we have with her is she pees when scolded or scared. We adopted her and she was probably abused in last home. I noticed tonight that after I scolded her that there was pee with redish pink blood in it in little drops on the floor. So I did a test.
Avatar n tn Yes it is possible for an infection to clear up the first time with an antibiotic, it's possible to have the same symptoms but have an entirely different infection; however if the infection persists, it is probably in your best interest to have a "Urine Culture & Sensitivity" performed on your pet's urine. This test is a little pricey ($70-100) but it will determine which organism(s) your pet may have in its urine and which antibiotic(s) will treat it and work.
Avatar n tn s in both ears, it could be caused by allergies or he could have a yeast infection in his ears. A yeast infection, while not as easy to clear up as a run-of-the-mill ear infection, CAN be cured with medication. If it's allergies, however, it can be more difficult to treat because the first step in treating symptoms caused by allergies is to eliminate the allergen, which can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Avatar m tn If it is an infection and not something exotic, usually Clavimox will cure it - or has for our dogs, at least. Clavimox is not an expensive drug, and is a pretty broad-based general antibiotic that catches most dog and cat infections.
18375851 tn?1464374666 Bentley is likely to have caught the infection after being in contact with stagnant water, marshland and muddy areas. Equally, he could have been in contact with the urine of another infected dog. Hunting dogs are also at particular risk. Cases of this particular infection have been rising in the USA and Canada over recent years. While Bentley is eating, that's good news.
Avatar f tn It can be tricky to diagnose without a urine culture because many times, the regular urinalysis shows no abnormalities other than a dilute urine, which predisposes to a kidney infection. It may be a primary problem or a secondary problem from something causing her to drink and urinate more. It should definitely be looked into further!
493067 tn?1209392027 Although there are a lot of changes going on int he home right now, it really does not seem to be behavrol. It have not noticed any blood in the urine and can not get a urine sample, she doesn't let anyone near her when she pee's. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn s possible that it has turned into a Kidney Or Bladder Infection.....These conditions are very painful in dogs just as they are in humans.....I mean extremely painful!!!!! This will only get worse without treatment......You need to get into your Vet ASAP (Tomorrow) & get her some help......Oral Antibiotics will be given after a Urine Sample is cultured...... They will want to see her for a followup to make sure the infection has cleared after her Antibiotics......
Avatar n tn s a gland up, there is a reason WHY that gland has come up. Often, infection or injury on the limb, or area nearest to the gland is the cause, but there are internal problems which could cause a gland to swell, which you couldn't see. If ALL his glands are up then that points to quite a serious infection or something similar which is affecting his whole system. Just one gland, and it is likely to be something wrong in some part of his body nearest to that gland.
Avatar n tn Dogs do not sweat through their skin; Only their noses. It sounds to me like she is leaking urine during her sleep. This is rather common and there are medications to control it. However, because she is so HOT, I would think she is running a fever. This could also explain the urine leaking...She possibly has a urinary (UTI) infection or something of the sort. Also, very treatable with antibiotics. I would take her to the vet for a urinalysis with culture.
Avatar f tn It could be Diabetes, that is usually the first thing to look at with these signs. He could also have a UTI infection, but most male dogs don't get them, but they can get them. If it is diabetes, you would give him a shot twice a day and maybe some pills, if it a UTI, then a round of antibiotis. I hate that as our beloved pets get old they get ill, but so do we. Please let us know what you learn.
Avatar m tn my father was recently diagnosed with c diff. he has two small dogs and they do have accidents in the house. going forward, is there anything special we should use to clean the carpet? Obviously I can not use bleach on the carpet so I'm looking for professional help?
1285326 tn?1433024464 A bladder infection could make your penis sore due to the acidic urine. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Don't that that because you are going a lot to empty your bladder that you have to drink less. This is not so. When you have your appointment with the doctor, take a morning mid stream urine sample with you. The doctor's surgery will provide you with a sterilized urine specimen bottle for you to do your sample in. The morning sample is the strongest.
9062499 tn?1426957962 I'm 19+4 weeks. I have never had urine infection in my previous pregnancies. I have had it for the past 2 months and now for the past couple of days I'm really itchy down there.
