infection

Avatar f tn s a male and not neutered, he could be marking territory. OR it could be a Urinary Tract infection. Your vet would be the best one to ask. If it's behavior out of the ordinary, you should consult your vet.
Avatar n tn Is there any home remedy for a dog with urinary tract infection, the dog seems to be having accidents and never has done this before.
Avatar n tn I have a 6 year old male Maine Coon (cat), who has been the most lovable cat. Tonight he started hissing at our other cats for no reason. We have a kitty box available, and "Big Kitty" never uses it. He has always gone outside to do his business. He's been in and out of the kitty box all night, and nothing is happening. Then he goes under the coffee table to clean himself and he growls, like he is in pain. He is a large cat, 26 pounds, as most Maine Coon's are big cats.
514349 tn?1272801633 he is likely having some irritation involving his penis and needs a good urinalysis done, it could be crystals &/or a UTI (urinary tract infection) both need to be treated asap. male cats are especially prone to crystals especially as they age....always always feed male cats WET food, not dry....wet food is needed to keep their PH within normal range of under 7 and prevent crystals forming.
Avatar m tn This is a very common problem encountered in dogs and cats. The most likely diagnosis is a bladder stone. Rarely are urinary tract infections so severe that the owner can detect blood. It could be a UTI but either way your vet will need to see her. Expect a urine test and radiographs be recommended. Both of these conditions are quite painful so please seek veterinary attention immediately.
1356964 tn?1302087435 I am just curious, as my 2 1/2 year old inside cat Spook developed a urinary infection with scant crystals 3 weeks ago and was put on Clavamox at first but could not tolerate it . It made him throw up and he developed very soft , unformed stools. He then was given Baytril, this worked so much better for him. Second UA showed more crystals but no infection so he was put on Special diet for a month consisting of crappy prescription Royal Canin S/O and Cosequin .
732991 tn?1241603294 I have read some articles, some articles said cats eat food with high salt can lead to urinary stones, but the other articles said high-salt and urinary calculi does not matter.Changes in eating habits, moving house can cause urinary stones. So which is true?
1460724 tn?1285932386 I have a home with multiple cats ranging from 1 1/2 years to 12 years old. My 12 year old cat Sassy was at one point the cat that 'scrammed' when strangers came to the home. After I got the two youngest cats last year she would hardly ever come out of her sleeping area. I had to coax her with canned food. She lost weight and I took her to the vet and was treated for urinary tract infection.
Avatar n tn She would litter in plants as well as her litter box. The vet dianosed her having a urinary track infection and prescribed special food for her, which pretty much handled the problem. Ask your vet if he carries it. I forgot the name since it was 6 yrs ago. The food is kind of expensive and if you have any more cats they will have to eat it as well.
Avatar f tn Sometimes with cats it can be difficult to tell if they're licking their rectum or genitals. Could this be possible? Is she going frequently to the litter box or squatting in places other than her litter box? If so, she may have a urinary infection and should be seen by your vet. Female cats don't seem to get urinary blockages like males do, but they do, indeed, get urinary infections. Keep us posted..
874521 tn?1424116797 Evo is an excellent diet. Even eating a diet that is considered to be urinary safe, cats can still have bladder issues. Struvite crystals typically form in a urine that is on the alkaline side. If you remember back to your chemistry days in school, water has a pH of 7. It is considered neutral. A cat is supposed to have a urine that is on the acid side. Diets or infections can cause the urine to become alkaline and predispose crystal formation.
Avatar f tn t release mine until they were urinating well without a catheter....Royal Canin Urinary S/O...I swear by it.....available from vets or petsmart with a prescription...works for cats with ureteritis as well as stones...sometimes it is hard to detect what the blockage is....whether it is stones or just irritation...
Avatar f tn Please check first to see if she has a urinary tract infection, which are very common in cats who have recently changed residences or are under any stress. If she does not have a urinary tract infection and the problem is behavioral, than it is important to get her to feel comfortable. Try the feline pheromone "Feliway", which is a plug-in air freshener that gives cats' a feeling of well-being.
1356964 tn?1302087435 Things went very well for 3 weeks, Spook was his old self, actually more playful, tolerating the other cats when three days ago I noticed he was developing a short temper again with the other cats and drinking more water than normal. He also urinated a normal amount and then 30 minutes later I was scooping out the litter boxes and he got in one and urinated a tiny amount then growled and starting licking at his privates.
931246 tn?1297902651 I am so sorry to read that Whiskey is having problems once again....has he been eating strictly wet canned foods??? and drinking lots of water? I will post the advice you were given earlier when this happened to him. read the website that was included on urinary tract health. I'm sorry but this is all I can add...my Nemo has been free of crystals for over a year now since stopping dry food...I also mix a small amount of extra water in with his wet food b/c he doesn't drink alot....
803133 tn?1237912536 That happened in 2 different cats. The one with the bladder infection had the same symptoms as your cat. The one that was blocked didn't even try to urinate. He just laid there. There was no fever in either of them. Crystals can cause drops of blood, too. I really should've told ya about both conditions. Well, hope your baby continues to feel better! Let me know how he's doing!! PS-that's also a great sign that he's still eating, playing, and wanting some love!!!
Avatar f tn He said it is usually a behavioral issue and not always infection ( for cats) i treated her as i was instructed until i saw that her issues began again. I sent out a sample and culture to a lab and she had infection. E-coli, high amylase, blood, wbc's and her microalbuminuria was > 90. her t4 for 2.7 but her free t4 was very high. he suggested putting her on methimazole, pred and cephalexin suspension. so i did. she was on ceph for almost a month, pred almost everyday and methimazole.
Avatar f tn It could also be a symptom of urinary track infection, quite common, particularly in older male cats. A change in diet to a lower magnesium food should help but if he currently has an acute infection, he may also need meds from your vet. I would suggest offering both dry and canned food for older cats which are typically lower in ash and magnesium.
1200566 tn?1265381052 I have a cat that does a similar thing. She will pee on any clothes I have on the floor or a random for say shoprite bag that gets to the floor. She has even done it on my like bookbags.
Avatar n tn Oh my, take that cat to the vet. Bleeding when urinating could be a result of a Urinary Tract Infection, very painful for the cat. I'm surprised he hasn't stopped using the box, as most cats associate it with the pain they feel when peeing. The vet will probably give you antibiotics and/or do a biopsy to see if there is blood in the bladder. UTI needs to be under control. Sometimes it comes and goes and so you need to keep an eye on kitty.
Avatar n tn Why is one of my male cats acting strange with new human infants in the house? My wife does daycare. This is why there are new infants sometimes. He runs around and urinates on things sometimes. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
874521 tn?1424116797 The best thing to prevent urinary tract problems in cats is to feed them canned food and encourage water intake. Cats by nature have very concentrated urine. By diluting the urine the crystals are less likely to form. The way to make the urine more dilute is to have the cat ingest much more water. Cats don't typically drink a large amount so feeding food with a high water content such as canned food will help.
