Had a call from my midwife today to let me know the results of my urine test and they show I have a urinary tract infection (UTI). I've had no symptoms but she said I need some antibiotics. Has this happened to anyone else, should I be worried?

If yu think it's a urinary infection try drinking cranberry juice until you can see your doctor. That's what they told my sister to do to treat hers and it worked.

Hi, I have been badly troubled with recurring Urinary infections. My urine culture shows I am infected with proteus mirabilis bacteria. This is the third time I am infected with in last 3 months. I had a cystoscopy done and my doctor said that every thing looked good. I am taking LEVAQUIN 500 now for the infection. I am told to take it for 3 weeks. Could you please help to understand why I keep getting the infection? I am really worried about this. Do I need to consult another doctor?

She most likely has a kidney infection, which can come from the bloodstream as in flu, or is a result of a urinary tract infection from pool water, or possibly losing her balance and bumping her back where the kidneys are. I think, tho, since she had a fever, it's most likely a kidney infection. The docs at the ER would have noticed, by the way, if she had a bruising on her back, so I do not think she has ruptured her kidneys or anything.

UTIs are exactly what their name describes. and infection in your urinary tract. its not in your vagina, however, ive always been told not to have sex while you have one because sex could be the cause of it. and its best to make sure its all better before introducing even more bacteria. Ive never heard of it being contagious, and dont think that it is, but ask your doctor. and ive also never had a cream to use, so im not sure what thats for.

You may not even have to bring your dog in for an exam if the urine is positive for a simple urinary tract infection (an infection without crystals). The vet can simply give appropriate antibiotics. If your dog has crystals in his urine, the crystals would need to be identified and treatment instituted. Crystals can be dangerous in male dogs because if they become large enough they can become lodged in the urethra and cause blockage (even in dogs, though more common in male cats).

There is nothing you can really do about the urinary tract infection except take the antibiotics. They may want you to take a stronger antibiotic (prescribed by your doctor) but being pregnant makes us more probable to have urinary tract infections. It doesn't become a problem unless you ignore it.

HI, it is not uncommon for a UTI to sensitize your urinary tract, so you feel sensations dispite the absence of an infection. Usually the symptoms resolve spontaneously. I note that you didn't mention that you were treated with an antibiotic. Dispite the normal culture I would first give you a standard 7 day course of an antibiotic to clear any low grade infection that was present but not picked up in the culture.
