Common Questions and Answers about Urinary infection symptoms in children

infection

Avatar n tn Hi, I can understand your situation. Urinary tract infections are common in children. The usual approach is to treat the child first and obtain imaging studies of the urinary tract. Following birth, heavy colonisation with aerobic bacteria normally becomes established in both sexes. Because of the shorter length of the urethra in females there is a greater chance of getting urinary tract infection due to contamination from the anus.
Avatar f tn I have treated him with an anti fungal and anti bacterial cream 3x day, so the infection has gone, but the foreskin still does not retract without effort, and then only in a warm bath does it retract a little. With research I see that a steroid cream is suggested and I have found this research here: http://www.cirp.
Avatar f tn This susceptibility decreases with age as the length of the ureters increases as the children grow. In children under the age of 1 year with a urinary tract infection, 70% will have VUR. This number decreases to 15% by the age of 12. Sex Although VUR is more common in males antenatally, in later life there is a definite female preponderance with 85% of cases being female. Medical Treatment Medical treatment entails low dose antibiotic prophylaxis until resolution of VUR occurs.
Avatar f tn Had a call from my midwife today to let me know the results of my urine test and they show I have a urinary tract infection (UTI). I've had no symptoms but she said I need some antibiotics. Has this happened to anyone else, should I be worried?
Avatar n tn It sounds like you may have a urinary tract infection - check in with your doctor and possibly see a urologist.
Avatar n tn The commonest one is the reimplantation surgery. In this, the ureter is moved and is placed in the bladder in a way that it gets the muscular support and the reflux is minimal. The ureter is angulated also which doesn’t allow the urine to go back. The other one is the endoscopic surgery in which an endoscope is passed into the urinary bladder and a material is injected close to the place where the ureters open into the bladder.
Avatar n tn You can get a bacterial infection from having sex with someone who has one or just from having poor hygiene in general. What type of bacterial infection do you mean?
Avatar n tn Painful urination can be a number of things including bladder infection and urinary track infection - which would be a lot more common. I would suggest going to your doc to get checked out.
Avatar m tn Do these sound like HEP C symptoms? I've had leg aches for a couple of months as well as an irritated nose, dark smelly urine. The last month I've had fatigue and weakness and a general unwell feeling. The last few days I've had lighter coloured stools and stomach aches. Had a white tongue and a heap of anxiety. My lab tests reveal a small amount of Bilirubin in urine and a slightly elevated bilirubin in blood. ALT/AST ok so far and seemingly no liver aches yet.
Avatar f tn Microscopic hematuria can be due to urinary tract (bladder) infection, swelling in the filtering system of the kidneys ,stone in bladder or in a kidney, blood disease, like sickle cell anemia, certain medicines and tumors in the urinary tract. I suggest you to consult a urologist for your father and get done an ultrasound abdomen to look for any kidney stone and blood tests for sickle cell anemia. I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep us posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.
Avatar m tn [2] Less common microbes include Ureaplasma, Mycobacterium, and cytomegalovirus, or Cryptococcus in patients with HIV infection. E. coli is more common in boys before puberty, the elderly and homosexual men. Non-infectious causes are also possible. Reflux of sterile urine (urine without bacteria) through the ejaculatory ducts may cause inflammation with obstruction. In children, it may be a response following an infection with enterovirus, adenovirus or Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

Avatar n tn Benign dermoid ovarian cysts uncommonly cause symptoms in young girls. It is estimated that they constitute 0.35% of all tumors occurring in children of both sexes less than 15 years of age. Symptoms produced by the cysts may mimic other intra-abdominal disease, and in three of the four cases reported in this series the girls were initially considered to have either acute appendicitis or infection of the urinary tract. All three had a pelvic mass palpable per rectum.
Avatar f tn Do you have an abscess in kidney detected by CT scan or ultrasound or is it that you have a urinary tract infection and want to know the treatment. Kidney stones too can cause infection of urine. Kidney abscess is a serious problem. Any infection of the urinary system is treated with antibiotics, pain medications and fluids. However it is not something that can be treated at home. There are various tests like urine examination, ultrasound or CT scan that need to be done to diagnose.
Avatar n tn an urinary tract infection, vaginal infection, or an infection of the skin of the perivulvar area. The infection could be bacterial, yeast, or a combination. Usually urinary tract infections are accompanied by the symptoms of increased frequency of urination, and/or drinking, dribbling, or inappropriate urination. However, occasionally the only symptom is licking the vulvar area.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms could be due to UTI, or urinary tract infection. The infection could be at any level from bladder to ureter to kidney. It could also be due to a stone in the urinary tract. What you need is a urine culture and sensitivity test done. You can also give it for culture and sensitivity in a sterile bottle provided by the lab. This will tell you what organism is causing the infection and what antibiotic will kill it permanently.
Avatar m tn A urinary tract infection is an infection that is anywhere along the urinary tract which starts in the kidneys and goes right the way through the ureter, bladder and urethra. The urethra is the urinary pipe that is located in the penis. Problems in the urinary tract can be caused by infections and also kidney stones. There is no way of knowing for sure if someone has kidney stones. Only imaging (xrays or ultrasound scan) would indicate if there were any stones or not.

803938 tn?1403748253 I noticed a week or so ago that I sometimes have a little bit of pain in my back, left side. Several years ago I had severe pain in the same area and it ended up being a urinary infection (I had no pain urinating at the time and I don't have any right now). I see my OB-GYN in 2 weeks: can I wait until then to have a urine test or should I go to the urgent care before that? The pain is not too bad, so for me I can wait, but would waiting be bad for the baby? I am 14 weeks pregnant.
Avatar f tn i have been constantly suffering with urinary infection, pain on the lower side of my left abdomen, feel my tummy getting puffed up and pain unbearable. Want to often pass urine. what could be the reason? i have done an ult and they say that the urine is not flowing completely out of my bladder, some is still standing in the bladder. Consulted my doctor and they say that a surgery is required, do u think i really need one and does a Neurologist perform such a surgery?
