Common Questions and Answers about Upper back pain breast reduction

Avatar f tn I have been denied breast reduction twice by my HMO based insurance, because they said it was for cosmetic reasons. I believe that this surgery would help the pain in my shoulders and my upper back. They are size 36DD and I only weigh 115. I sent an appeal out with my medical documents and a letter about my condition. I would like to know what it is I can do to get this surgery approved. I've tried everything, and I'm stuck! How do I get them to approve of this surgery!?
7251241 tn?1389564212 Maybe the new bras will help but sadly, I think your anatomy is working against you. A problem at your age with chest pain and back pain . . . can you imagine when you are older? But it is totally something you have to want and no one can make that decision for you. Insurance does often cover reductions for he health reasons for it and a reduction doesn't mean you have to be small chested. You can still have a decent size but a more 'manageable' size.

2056851 tn?1332202272 Also, small anecdote, my grandma had DD breasts and had to have a reduction surgery done because of the pain it was causing on her back. Very possible that all this pain comes from your breasts and it may be time to consider a reduction (if you can get a dr or two to agree that this is causing severe back pain that will only get worse insurance will usually cover a breast reduction) or trying to loose weight if your breast size comes from being overweight.
Avatar f tn I had a breast reduction done 10 years ago. I have many scars as a result. I also have fibrocystic breasts. I usually have my doc or obgyn do my breast exams because I find them difficult to do myself because of the nature of my breasts. What I am wondering is has anyone here ever had a breast reduction and find it difficult to distinguish between whats a problem lump and what is scar tissue. I have a lot of cysts some that move some that dont.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure how it would go in the UK, but you have to set up an appointment with a plastic surgeon. Go in for a consultation and he or she can tell you everything that will happen, with how the procedure goes and what to expect. You can reduce your breast size to basically any size you want them to be. I'm surprised you don't have back pain with the size you say you are. good luck!
Avatar n tn The pain is primarily in my right breast, sometimes in both. I thought I was having upper back pain but have come to the conclusion that it is from scar tissue that may have adhered to nerves or musles. I have a mammogram and it came back ok. I have had physical thereapy and that has not help. The pain is progressively getting worst and sometimes unbareable. I hope and pray that we ALL find some relief.
Avatar f tn im 24 and have had a horrible pain in mt lower back for years. now its radiating through my whole back. i believe its from having large breasts (i wear size 5 pants and a 32 E bra) i have always wanted to see a chiropractor but can never afford it. what should i do to ease the pain a little?
Avatar f tn I do have big breast (post pregnancy), so in my pregnancy I suffer from upper back pain. But I also suffer from horrible lower back pain, I use heating pads. One on ny tail bone when I sit and another one inside my shirt, taped lol on my lower back area!! This seems to help a lot! A nice message is helpful as well, my husband gives me a back message before going to bed, life saving!! I have had back pain since around 14 weeks, I am now 33 weeks and 2 days, the pain definitely increased!!!
991102 tn?1249288499 Focal asymmetry upper-outer left breast may be scar tiisue from breast reduction. Compression views are recommended. I problem is I am in a little bitty town in South Carolina. I had a breast reduction done around 7 years ago. Their report read 20! My last mammogram two years after the reduction, did not show anything. I am concerned because mu Aunt had a reduction done and 5 years later she had cancer and died!
1453524 tn?1295627371 Has anyone here had immense breast pain along with the jumble of other symptoms. It almost feels like after giving birth?
520691 tn?1213961844 I'm 16, and I have 36E/F breasts.. I have thought about breast reduction when i am old enough... Is there anything I can do besides having that done?
Avatar f tn I had a breast reduction four months ago. I am still in pain. Some of the pain is from underneath the breast (which I can't find a bra that doesn't hurt), but the majority of the pain feels like electric shocks or being zapped. When I first started getting these "electric shocks or feeling of being zapped" the nurse said it was because the nerve ending were severed and to take 300 mg of ibuprofen every four hours.
Avatar n tn My husband and I are thinking of getting pregnant. One thing I'm worried about are my breast. I know it maybe a chance that I can't breast feed. I have one breast that is really incredibly sore even after a year after the surgery. I haven't had a baby before and I know my breast will get larger. I'm afraid they will get bit like before, I was a 36G now I'm a 34D. Do your breast go back down after having the baby even if you don't breast feed? Any advice would be great.
Avatar f tn They found what the radiologist thinks is a cyst due to a breast reduction that I had back in 2000. There were also 2 little calcifications that they will wait to repeat the mammo in 4-6 months. Here's the problem with that. In 2001, I had a mammogram that came back normal. I got the films and the report from back then (didn't bring that with me to the first mammo because it had come back normal). I reread that report and know that nothing was found.
Avatar n tn I am sorry to hear about the increase and change of your pain. We can relate to pain!! Has your upper back pain been diagnosed in the past? It sounds like whatever is causing your back pain may be worsening or progressing. The back pain could be from a compressed nerve. When this occurs it can radiate into your breast or chest area. It would make sense that this compression has become more severe over the years.
Avatar f tn I had undergone FNAC three years back and it was diagnosed as benign but this multiple calcified specks is scaring me too much. I would like to know what does it indicate? Is it early sign of cancer?? If so, what to do? Kindly Suggest.
Avatar f tn I found the breast reduction surgery to be quite easy, well tolerated, no pain, I was up and out the next day, and my recovery was very easy. I wish you the best of luck. I am sure you will be very happy with your breast reduction - I sure am. Be sure you keep getting echocardiograms on your mvp. It can progress, without symptoms, and latest thinking is to be proactive and have it repaired before damage is done to the heart.
1282828 tn?1271464078 Just had breast reduction on March 26, 2010. Incisions along breast crease opened. I am using a hydrogel and 0.9% saline wet to dry dressing. Just wondering if this is a normal occurrence. Also, have discomfort in nipple area, comes and goes, not continuous. How long does it take for wounds to close and is this customary. The surgeon took off approximately 5lbs. Is silvidene ok as dressing?
Avatar f tn It can also cause back pain and rib pain due to the constriction, and I would imagine in fibro, the pain would even be worse.
Avatar f tn I have read up on ectopics and they mention pain in the shoulder tips. I have no pain in my shoulder tips just upper back and shoulder blades. Please help.
