Avatar f tn My test show a THYROGLOBULIN AB to be 10296 AU/ML and ANTI-THYROID PEROXIDASE AB of 5420 AU/ML.. The charts here seem to be in International units IU/ML. Also my T3 FREE is measured in PG/ML (2.45) and T4 measured in NG/DL (0.31) which also is a different unit of measure than the tracking chart... What is the conversion between AU and IU?
Avatar f tn t seem to be controlling the sugar....my dose has been increased from 4 to 6 units and the Dr says it might have to be increased further. I just dont want to have diabetes later on nor do I want my baby to develop it. m testing over 5 times a day and trying to control my diet as much as possible (sugar cravings are making it all the more difficult:))...
Avatar n tn The thing about the 1h test is your system is bombarded with an abnormally large amount of sugar in a short time and the blood test will measure your response to it - this is quite different from measuring your levels throughout the day which may be more "normal" because your sugar intake could have been at a relatively low level. In essence, testing your levels throughout the day is not necessarily a good indicator of whether you have GD or not.
Avatar n tn I can't really answer your question because I'm not familiar with your insulin or units of measure (I'm in the UK). But to get a low-blood-sugar reading up fairly quickly and accurately, you could use Jelly Babies. They taste ok and are exactly 5g of fast acting carb in each one. I use them as an emergency source to get out of hypo. The good thing is, if you know how much you need to raise your b.s. by to get within normal range, these can achieve it quickly.
Avatar m tn This morning i took my blood test (not a diabetic, trying to rule out low blood sugar that may cause some symptoms im having) and it ranged from 118 right when i woke up to 95 when i got moving. Is too much blood on the strip bad? should i just have enough on the strip to allow a reading and take my finger away? it seemed that my readings were lower when it got just enough blood to get a reading and i took my finger away. also, how fast does a sport drink like gatorade raise your blood sugar?
Avatar n tn So, if your blood sugar is 300 you would subtract 100 to get 200. Divide that by 40 to get 5 units of Humalog. I also have a scale for when I eat. It's for every 15 grams of carbs I take 2 units of Humalog. When your blood sugar is high in the morning you would do both of these things. Of course, you need to talk w/ your doc about all of this because everyone is different. I would suggest, however, that you first talk to your doc about the high blood sugars in the morning.
Avatar n tn If he currently takes 5 units of fast acting insulin to cover 40 grams of carbs, and his blood sugar rises too fast and stays high, the number of units needed to cover that food is likely too low. Work out any changes through your endocrinologist, to make sure that they agree. Exercise also helps lower blood sugar. Muscles need glucose in order to function, and the two things which deliver that glucose are insulin and adrenaline, and adrenaline is released during exercise.
Avatar f tn Novorapid is a bolus, or fast acting insulin it is dosed to correct high blood sugar levels (correction dosing) and to cover meals (dosed based on amount of carbs and protein eaten in any single meal). They can be taken at the same time, though not in the same syringe. For example, your partner takes his usual daily dose of tresiba at 7 am. However, his blood sugar is 150 and he wants it to be 80.
Avatar f tn It is not that they are unreliable, but the wrist units measure pressure at a different point, with different norms. Wrist pressure norms are slightly different than arm norms. They have to be held up to the level of the heart while taking a pressure.
Avatar f tn Are you able to monitor your blood sugar freqently? You should be monitoring fasting levels and 2 hours after meals to be sure that you are well adjusted. Target is fasting of 80 - 100 and 2 hours after meals of < 120. Important also is to eat a low carb diet and to exercise as this will reduce your insulin requirements markedly. Just as a reference, I started off with about 4 units in the mornign and 4 at night. Adjust by 1 - 2 units every 3 days until target levels are reached.
Avatar m tn Hi! I have diabetes for 16 years (I was 12) and i'm using Lantus for about 1 year now... I take 42 units in the morning (my weight is 57kg) and 3-4 units of novorapid before main meals.... and sometimes I have hypoglycemia 4-5 am but in general my blood sugar is quite normal.... what i'm trying to say is maybe your son needs to increase his lantus dose, watch his night meals carefully... and of course consulting an endocrinologist is essential... Hope your and your son best!!!
Avatar m tn Take your insulin, then eat your dinner, then test your blood sugar 2 hours after starting to eat dinner. Your blood sugar should ideally not be higher than 40 units above your predinner number (ie. 140). Don't eat anything further (unless you go low early) and then test again at 3 and 5 hours. If you are low by 5 hours you will need to take a lower dose of insulin the next evening - reduce by say 2 units.
Avatar m tn My mother, aged 79 years, a hyperintensive and a diabetic for several years, recently underwent a CABG surgery for a Triple Vessel Disease on July 13, 2010 and was discharged from hospital on July 21, 2010. She is recovering, yet her blood sugar levels continue to be high and is being administered Novomix 30 ( 20 units before before breakfast and 10 units before lunch). Prior to surgery, she was taking Amaryl 1mg tablets once a day.
Avatar f tn Total T3 and total T4 measure the total amount of the respective hormones in your blood. However, much of that is chemically bound by protein and thus unavailable to cells. FREE T3 and FREE T4 measure the available levels. Very important... That being said, your T4 is a little on the low side. Midrange is where many of us have to be to feel well, and yours is only at 25% of range. It looks to me like you might need a meds increase, and it's possible that your FT3 level is inadequate.
Avatar f tn I took a hsv 1/2 igg blodd test type specific AB on the 8 of august at a planned parenthood place. I went online today and saw my results, but they said that they will call in a week or two if something positive came up. The results were --HSV 1 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC AB- measure 27.00, unit-index, abnormal flag H. HSV 2 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC AB, measure < 0.90, units-index, abnormmal flag N.
Avatar m tn Certainly many of the medical establishment do not test for Reverse T3, and do not know how to treat. Those that do generally seem to agree that a good ratio would be, in your units of measure, a ratio of .018 or higher. There is some good info about this in page two of this link. http://thyroid.about.com/od/loseweightsuccessfully/a/weight-loss-diet_2.
Avatar m tn You can take Cinnamon. It's all natural and it has been proven to lower blood sugar. Also, you might want to try Gymenama I think it's called ? People with PCOS take it with diabetes and it helps.
Avatar n tn my fathers blood sugar is 224 how many units of levemir flexpen do i give him his Dr put him on a sliding scale. i dont know what the dosage is ???? i give him humalog the scale is 200 to 250/ 5 units and so on. Is there a guideline of units for levemir ?
Avatar m tn before I was on 20 units 3 times daily I lowered the dose to 10 units 3 times a day as I lost weight because the 20 units was way to much and the last 2 months I have only taken 1 to 2 shots of 10 units each.
