Avatar f tn Not sure I'd do valerian tea -- tastes pretty putrid. Easier to take in tincture form. Often a combination works better, say valerian, passionflower, and hops. But because you have more complex problems, I'd recommend you start by reading a book called Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA. It will give you an overview of some common natural remedies used, in combination, for help with mental disorders.
Avatar m tn the patient sleeps under monitored conditions in a sleep center and several recordings are done. Other causes of limb shaking at night include parasomnias, a sleep disorder that includes several not uncommon conditions, and seizures. Visual hallucinations at night be related to the changes in brain activity that occur as a person falls asleep, transitioning from one state of arousal to another. Their cause may be investigated further during a sleep study.
Avatar f tn the will monitor and observe your and tell you what exactly is happening while you sleep. You might try to note if this happens more or worse during certain times, liike stress, or diet, or does excersize help.. Your teeth, your mouth also figure into it, how your throat reasts when you sleep, is your mouth open, do you lay on your back. Hope it gets better for you..
Avatar f tn I have to be at UCLA Medical Center once a month and drive from Orange Co. California to Los Angeles. You never have to prove your courage in any other way doing that drive. Tremendous traffic with everyone going to work early in the morning, and construction everywhere. I have to drive 2.5 hours each way! That's 51 miles each way. Yes, a small price to pay to see the transplant doctor who tells me at every visit that there are no complications.
Avatar m tn Hi i am having major sleep issues with sleep seeing as i call it. I wake up and see a whole new place than i am actually in. many of them include people to talk to and objects to avoid. About 1/3 of the times this happens i always end up waking up on the floor and have walked around for who knows how long and didn't bump into anything. Some times it takes 5 seconds to finally have my room come back into vision or up to 20 minutes.
Avatar f tn we do have a list of names these were compiled by members of Drs they have been to, treated by and liked,,,the list is here and offered so you have a starting place to research Drs.....we all have to educate ourselves and see a few Specialists b4 we find the right one.... We do seem to have more here on the East Coast, but I still had to travel out of state to get to one I felt confident and comfortable with.
Avatar f tn Hello, I went to my Dr in February for several "random" problems I was having. She did some blood work and then 'wait and see'. Last week I caught a terrible virus and was in the hospital with the worst head and neck pain of my life (on top of throwing up, fever and chills). They did a Spinal tap and CT scan to check for meningitis and found it have Chiari...all aligned with the "random" symptoms I had been complaining about months before. I have an mri this week.
600561 tn?1326845621 Thank you. I have not yet decided about the device; I am not over weight...145 and try to walk at least 3 times a week, but would be happier if I could get my butt out to do more. I never go to sleep on my back. I wake up on my back. or I did until my GF told me to put a tennis ball down the back of my PJ top! It works! so still debating; looking and will certainly keep you posted. I stopped drinking any alcohol for 3 years and it was during this time that the sleep apnea started.
5997456 tn?1408766484 So far they are blurred and static vision, as well as seeing after images, buzzing and ringing in my ears, fullness in my ears, constant pressure at the back of my head, i lose my balance, undiagnosed sleep apnea, anxiety, neck and back pain, depression, and just recently last year I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia when i had a colonoscopy. I just want to know if a hiatal hernia is a symptom of chiari at all..?
Avatar f tn At UCSF, he teams with Lewis Blevins and Sandeep Kunwar in the California Center for Pituitary Disorders (CCPD), one of the largest medical and surgical pituitary centers in the world. Dr. Aghi also runs an NIH funded basic science laboratory investigating malignant brain tumors and pituitary tumors. He is principal investigator of a phase I clinical trial using gene therapy to treat malignant brain tumors.
1878464 tn?1320559437 I have recently been to UCLA Medical Center and they have suggested panniculitis or (because of the stroke) Degos Disease, although the skin lesions do not resemble either. They are reviewing the two biopsy slides together (and the biopsy is the test for Degos Disease). The symptoms are becoming increasing worse. If anyone has seen this before, or has some possible ideas of the cause, please help solve this medical mystery. The pain has worsened and being undiagnosed for so long is very hard.
Avatar f tn For some messed up reasons, I finally had to find a new Dr, because he just seems like he wants you in and out and has too many patients. I went out and got a pain Dr. and was told I have to wait a couple of months for a new G.P. A couple of days ago I started getting bad pain in my belly button. It seems to be getting worse, and now it is bleeding.I usually hate going to the Dr because I have to tell them about a past that includes I.V. drug use & prison.
Avatar n tn I have alot of persistant nausea, breathless feelings (at rest), heavy and tight chest discomfort in the center and upper part of my chest, feel very lightheaded most of the time too. I have also have occasional heart palps (skipped beats) that I feel in the exact same area as the chest tightness/heaviness I described. I passed a cardiolite stress test (well, sort of...I could only go 7 minutes). Normal echo, normal chest xray, mild polycythemia however.
Avatar f tn I have just been given news that I should take the treatments, and referred to a Fleger Liver Center at UCLA... in Los Angeles.. it will take 3+ to get an appt.. Does anyone have someone they can recommend for treatment closer to Burbank, (that is specializing in this?

Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, there are hormones and neurotransmitters and receptors which play role in sleep and wakefulness. Melatonin is one such hormone and it appears to be the primary sleep-regulating hormone of the body. It is secreted in relation with normal day/night cycles. It affects sleep itself, decreasing sleep latency, increasing sleep efficiency, and increasing the total sleep time. Melatonin acts on the melatonin receptors.
Avatar f tn If this always happens as you are going to sleep and/or wakes you up from sleep, my first thought would be sleep apnea. Before I was diagnosed and began using a CPAP, I had become very afraid to sleep, and avoided it till I collapsed in exhaustion. Much of what you describe is what I experienced. Since I got my CPAP working well for me I have not had one episode of the sense of choking or difficulty breathing.
