739070 tn?1338603402 Even the multiple sclerosis patients at highest risk of developing the brain infection face low odds of getting it while on Tysabri, but the infection can be deadly. "Now we can identify which risk group each patient is in. This will help doctors and patients make better decisions," said Dr. Gary Bloomgren, lead author of a study released Wednesday and vice president of drug safety at Biogen Idec, which makes the drug. About 100,000 patients have taken Tysabri at least once.
216354 tn?1262871346 Last week when she went to the doctor, she was informed that patients who has been on the tysabri infustion for over two years have a greater chance of developing the brain infection PML. I believe she was told the odds went up to 1 in 800. However, she was also told that if she were to stop tysabri she was pretty much guaranteed to have an attack of the MS. She has an agressive form of MS and other medications don't seem to work.
Avatar f tn side effects for each other medicine and now this with tysabri. Has anyone else been on tysabri and developed c. Diff from it? If so, what did they do to help it? Stop tysabri? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn I have MS and Neuropathy. I am currently on Tysabri. Previously I was on Betaseron and IVIG. When I went to Tysabri my doctor took me off IVIG and now my Neuropathy is worse, my feet and legs are on fire. Does any one know if it is safe to be on Tysabri and IVIG at the same time? My doctor said she would need to consult with other doctors before she would add IVIG to my treatment.
1760800 tn?1406753451 He feels that Tysabri is the way to go. I know that there are others here on it or used to be. I would love some insight on what to expect, how long it takes, etc... Thanks!
Avatar f tn m 18 and not sure which medicine to choose. I have narrowed it down to Copaxone and Tysabri, but am not sure which one to choose. I have a phobia of needles that I have been trying to overcome so giving myself a shot wouldn't be optimal but I could manage. I was also worried about developing PML with Tysabri but my doctor made it seem as if he would check my bloodwork regularlly and it wouldnt be an issue. I just wanted to know anyones personal experience or opinions on the two.
Avatar f tn Are any of you on Tysabri? My doctor has suggested that I consider starting Tysabri treatment. His neurology practice runs a TOUCH infusion center. I've been on Copaxone for four years and have just had my first flareup. My recent MRI shows progression of MS with T2 hyperintense white matter lesions in the pons of the brainstem and the frontal lobe. Several of the older lesions have increased in size. Five years ago I was on Avonex. I had multiple flare-ups the whole year on this med.
Avatar f tn I am now 36 weeks and have my 3rd yeast infection and have had one uti since I hit my 3rd trimester. I am so tired of getting infections. It just want to cry about it but I know it won't change anything.
1486292 tn?1291066898 Does anyone have information on Tysabri? I haven't been told much on it, although I have been told by 3 different doctors I should take a look at it. I would like to know what others on it experience or experienced while on it?
Avatar m tn of prednisone being ordered at the time of tysabri due to the action by way tysabri works, and the steriod combo. But, I have not read it. This is one of those things where a doctors orders are called for. Are you scheduled to start infusions?
Avatar f tn I'm 25 weeks pregnant. I've had a couple bacterial infections and recently I've noticed some little white bumps in the vaginal area. I was wondering if this could be from the bacterial infection? Or if it could be from a yeast infection? I have an appointment tomorrow but it's really worrying me and I was just looking for some answers.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Well, could be a yeast infection/overgrowth, yes. If you have never been diagnosed for a yeast infection, I would go the first time to your doctor to confirm. They'll help you treat it then and give you ideas why it is happening related to your period. So, yes, I'd see your doctor at this point.
645390 tn?1338555377 My MRIs have never changed in 2 years on any of the DMDs, but at first on the others I had a flare every 3-4 months and on Tysabri I have only had one in 6 months. I even got a sinus infection twice*its possible Tysabri weakens your immune system according to docs and I say YES on that personally* but I went through both infections without a flare and that is a first for me. So I personally am sticking with it for now. If I was positive for JC...I may consider differently.
Avatar f tn If any infection is left untreated that is when you can have issues.
Avatar f tn I got a yeast infection after taking the antibiotics I was prescribed so make sure if you get symptoms of a yeast infection you call your doctor
1115136 tn?1258778476 Hello, all! I was originally diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis in May 2007, when I was 26 years old. That diagnosis was changed to progressive relapsing multiple sclerosis in October 2007, when I had an exacerbation. My neurologist has never been completely comfortable with my diagnosis, because I don't display "typical" MS in many ways. My first MRI showed more lesions along my cervical spine than in my brain, but my spinal tap displayed (?
Avatar f tn Let your OB know because many times its hard to tell the difference between bacterial vaginosis and a yeast infection.
921312 tn?1351077913 I have never heard of a brain infection related to Gilenya … perhaps the doctor was referring to Tysabri, although a doctor should know the difference. Tysabri also may be worth a try. Yes, it has shortcomings, but like Gilenya, many people tolerate it well and have good results. I don’t know anything about gabapentin, other than that it is not a disease-modifying drug interchangable with Gilenya, Tysabri, Copaxone, Avonex, Rebif, and Betaseron.
Avatar f tn Have you tried an over the counter vaginal yeast treatment? Some yeast are resistant to these as they all have fluconazole in them. The yeast are getting used to the anti-fungals that have azole at the end of their name. But it can also be Bacterial vaginosis (BV). You should get tested to find out if it is a yeast and if it is resistant and also have the laboratory check for bacterial vaginosis. Could you have a STD? If you would need to get tested for those.
