Tysabri and flu shots

Common Questions and Answers about Tysabri and flu shots

tysabri

Avatar n tn I have MS, and recently switched from Copaxone shots (on for 5 1/2 yrs) to Tysabri infusions (I've had three) due to slow decline. I have a flu shot every fall and was wondering if I should have one this year since I'm on a new med.
Avatar n tn m on Tysabri, the pharmacist at the hospital told me not to get the flu shot until at least a week after my infusion. For those on CRABs (Copaxone.Rebif, Avonex, and Betaseron), or Gilenya, there are no time restrictions.
Avatar n tn Hi I was diagnosed with MS in May of 2001. My neurologolist wants to me to try Tysabri. I have already tried the shots for ms and they don't work to well with me. But I already have most of the side of effects that go with tysabri. Please help me.
Avatar n tn The side effects were too debilitating for me (flu-like symptoms). I then switched to Copaxone and stayed on that for about three years. I then quit that because I didn’t like the indentations in my skin. Next on the list was Betaseron. I withstood the side effects for two years before I finally decided that the headaches and fatigue were too much to bear. I have now switched back to Copaxone and will use this until I am a completely used up pin cushion.
Avatar f tn However after a few months, my Copaxone shots were going better and better, and now, 9 months later, the injections don't hurt and the site reactions are minimal; lumps, bumps and bruises disappear after a few days if they occur at all. Every once in a while, I do have a shot that will sting, but this occurs very infrequently and passes quickly. There is no need for me to pre-warm and post-ice anymore.
Avatar f tn I was on copaxone for a year before and had four relapses in the first year. My specialist switched me to tysabri and I have been relapse free. So it is doing what it is supposed to do. I have read of people having great success in terms of improved mobility etc. I didn't notice much difference, but I can certainly tell if I missed my infusion due to antibiotics etc.
Avatar f tn I never get flu shots ever pregnant ir not I've never had one my whole life. I will get the dtap booster though.
Avatar f tn I have never got it and extremely leary of getting the flu shot. It doesn't protect from all strains of the flu and it's putting the dead flu virus into your body and they say pregnant women's immune systems are already compromised because of pregnancy. I disagree when people say you cant get sick from the flu shot. I witness my bEstfriend get extremely sick 3 hours after his first flu shot. I just try to stay healthy by washing my hands, eating right and exercising.
Avatar n tn My midwife is leaving it up to me and I am leaning towards not getting it. I've never had a flu shot before in my life, and I haven't had the flu since I was about 12 years old. I do tend to get bronchitis and sinusitis though, so I am being very careful, and my DH and I are both taking a lot of D3 to boost our immune systems. Do some reading on reliable sites like WebMD and pubmed, and make the decision together with your doctor.
10175413 tn?1427170251 So like the two of you, I choose to take precautions and stay home, if necessary, and wait til tx is done to get the flu shot, especially after seeing that the shot has only about 60% chance of hitting the strain this year.
Avatar f tn Well I heard last night on the news that flu has already started on the east coast. Yay. Personally I don't get flu shots never have. My husband has never had one and our son who will be 3 in November has never had one.
Avatar f tn Thank you! Yeah I plan on asking my Dr. My worries are that I have never had any shots, not even a flu shot. My mother didn't believe in them!? So I'm very confused/ concerned. I don't want to hurt my baby or my self.
Avatar f tn I went to my OB and talked to her about the Flu Shot. She said it was recommended. I actually was nervous to get the shot as well. I disnt want to harm my baby. But when I had my next appt I told her that I might consider getting one. If your pregnant the Flu Shot they will give you isnt the same as what a normal shot would be. It has the chemicals thatare safe for pregnant women. Ask your OB if they give them at the office, that might make you feel better. It did me. Good Luck Mommas!
Avatar f tn Does anyone pregnant before have taken flu shot? I just wanted to get it to be protected for my baby and myself so I don't have to worry about taking medications for cold and flu later.

1717054 tn?1316712653 Not all flu shots are created equal, be cautious about which one you are getting, and talk to your doc about whether it's appropriate for you. "According to the Center for Disease Control, "Manufacturers might use different compounds to inactivate influenza viruses and add antibiotics to prevent bacterial contamination." As with all medical procedures, having a foreign substance injected into your bloodstream involves a certain degree of risk.
Avatar n tn Thank you for the suggestion. I did ask about the new pill form that's out, but they siad they want a longer study of long term effects before prescribing it for any patients who are stable.
Avatar f tn So far ive noticed my fatigue is worse and my balance is off again but not like it was. Before tysabri I had a cane and walker now I use nothing and would like to keep it that way. I started doinf volunteer work for hospice and love it. I would hate to go back to what I was before tysabri. I am seeing ms specialist dec 31st to see what my options are for dmd. I wont go back to shots and not happy with side effect profile from tec.
Avatar f tn Kyle this has been debated and one of the reports I read said that it was ok to get it.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Rebif since my Dx in March with no problems until last night! I took aspirin before my shot instead of my usual ibuprofen and have never felt so horrible. When they say "fllu-like" symptoms that's the understatement of the millenium!!! I shivered so hard I thought I was going to crack my teeth. I could barely hold a cup of water from the shivering and shaking to take some ibuprofen.
4629663 tn?1357698594 -) As Ess said some MS docs are pro flu shot and some are anti. Because I am a Tysabri user my doc is anti. I do everything I can to make sure I'm able to ward off winter bugs. Mostly that means I eat right, get regular exercise and take my vitamins.
Avatar f tn Im 36 wks and got it today ;( my arms sore
Avatar m tn only at start of interferon flu shot might be an issue, all other drugs have no issues and of course it is better to make flu shots because in case of flu all drugs are toxic for liver and kidneys (antibiotics, aspirn and so on...
1251333 tn?1445218215 Hello all... I know "Tysabri" is probably one of those "we see it all the time" posts so I'll try to keep this short and quick. I have a strong suspicion that my doctor is going to recommend that I switch to Tysabri. I've been on all the CRABs. Betaseron for the longest. I have not done my shots consistently like I'm supposed to and I'm beating myself up thinking I could have lessened my current progression.
