709686 tn?1277432159 If it is Type 1 Diabetes, you are somehow born with a weak pancreas or abnormal hormone system which causes the lack of insulin production. But about 90% of the diabetes patients are of Type 2 Diabetes which is still remain a myth among the Smart Scientists. Type 2 Diabetes is a diet & lifestyle related illness. Most people put the blame on the Sugar and Carbohydrate for the elevated glucose level in the blood.
Avatar f tn Here is clarification on glucose testing; a fasting glucose (GTT) or an oral glucose test (OGTT) measures glucose in your blood at the time of the test. It does not take into count what you levels were three months ago, a week ago, or the day before the test. The Hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c or HbA1c) test measures your average glucose level over the past three months. The results are presented in % (percentile) where below 6% is considered normal.

Avatar n tn My 6 year old grandson was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He was admitted with a blood sugar level of over 2500. After 3 days in intensive care, his CK level rose to 78,000. He tested negative for the diabetes antibody. Two days ago, after 10 days in intensive care he was moved to the regular pediatric floor however his ketones are still at 2000 and the doctors are puzzled why they keep going down then up for no apparent reason.
Avatar n tn I have a friend whose husband has type-1 diabetes. He is in his early thirties and had a job for 3 years in which he had to drive around town. His blood sugar dropped one day when he was off work and he had an accident and lost his drivers license.
Avatar n tn My husband is 35yrs old and has had type 1 diabetes since childhood. Every other month he has severe nausea and stomach pains until he vomits, these episodes last 2-3 days. Any advice on how to prevent this or treat when it happens?
Avatar f tn Type 2 Diabetes is a diet & lifestyle related illness. Most people put the blame on the Sugar and Carbohydrate for the elevated glucose level in the blood. Actually, it is not the 'sweetness' of the modern diet that causes Type 2 Diabetes, it is the Acidic by-products that accumulated in the cellular environment that hinder the function on insulin to bring in glucose into the cells for energy production or storage. This condition is commonly known as Insulin Resistance.
Avatar n tn It stated that a child born of a father with type 1 diabetes carries a risk of 1 in 20 (5%) of developing type 1 diabetes. is this correct? And if it is, is there any way of finding out whether the child is carrying the gene while still in the womb?
Avatar m tn Hi Sir, I am 55 years, a diabetes since 12 years, ( type 2) using insulin since 5 months. Now I have some problems. I have some burning sensation unde my feet and penis, sometime extreme. It may be the side effect of diabetes.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2007, and have just been diagnosed with MS. How does having both conditions affect life expectancy?
Avatar n tn Our specialty here on this Forum is type ! diabetes, not type 2. Perhaps you should check out the American Diabetes Association at www.ada.org -- there is more emphasis on type 2 diabetes on that website and they may be able to better answer your very good question than we can.
Avatar n tn Hi Rasha, I have type 2 diabetes. It's tough because six months I got diagnosed and lost my first baby due to miscarriage. However, since being diagnosed, I've really been taking charge of it. I'm 5, almost 6 weeks pregnant again so as nervous as I am, I feel very comfortable about this pregnancy and managing my diabetes this time around. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns, I'm here for you sweetie!
7827642 tn?1396958758 I was at one point very over weight. I lost over 60 pounds before I found out I was pregnant. I was 178 then and am 183 now according to my last weight in 2 weeks ago at appointment. I am 5"7 and nobody can believe I weight what I do BC I wear 10s-13s. I wouldn't say im obese or even fat although now I feel like I am because of thickening of waist and my little pouch.
Avatar f tn I will be going for a Glucose challenge test tomorrow and i am worried about the results, in addition, My sis had GD when she was pregnant and my Mum has type 2 Diabetes - so i have all possible causes. I just need your prayers that the results may come back negative. Thanks - Ruth.
Avatar f tn No, it doesn't sound like diabetes would be the concern here. And yes, what you'd be talking about is diabetes type 2. What were your symptoms? Perhaps another forum would be helpful for figuring out what was going on. But blood tests do not lie for diabetes. Maintain a healthy weight and eat healthily (and get plenty of exercise) and you have done all you can to prevent diabetes type 2.
Avatar n tn Lots of interesting & useful info on this thread! I also want to comment that Type 1s need to discuss "low carb" ideas with our doc before choosing that way of eating. Many Type 2s and some Type 1s enjoy better control by having less than the traditionally recommended allotment of carbohydrates. A very low carb diet -- as in Atkins style -- causes the liver to "give up" stored glycogen as part of the carb-limiting routine.
Avatar n tn I understand that people with uncontrolled or long standing type 2 diabetes can progress to "type 1" diabetes where the pancreas can no longer make insulin or no longer make enough insulin (even with drug support to increase insulin production / increase tissue sensitivity to insulin).
