diabetes

Avatar f tn However, do be careful about how much carbs they recommend you to eat. The traditional approach is to ask diabetic patients to eat a high carb diet, but truely this can make it much harder to control your blood sugars. A diet focusing on lower carb foods (with plenty of veges and minimally processed foods) is really the way to go.
Avatar n tn Low carb diet is absolutely the best way to manage diabetes. American Diabetes Association is now also recognizing this. By low carb we mean about 20 - 30 g of carbs per day. Protein should be adequate (can be up to 1.5g/ kg body weight), and healthy unprocessed fats (avoid vegetable oils) for energy balance. HEalthy fats include the fats that come with meats and full fat dairy, nuts, avocado etc.

Avatar m tn it is good you went to the dr when you did. You may wish to ask your Dr if he will test you for type 1 diabetes, which you may possibly have given your age and how high your sugars were. If it is type 1 diabetes, you will need to continue taking insulin rather than oral meds. Please learn as much as you can about diabetes. It is managed through diet, exercise and medications (insulin and/or oral).
Avatar m tn This can be adult onset as well. Treatment for type 1 diabetes is always insulin (combined with diet and other lifestyle measures to help management). Hope this is helpful for you.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am a type 2 diabetic as well. When I do have soda it is always diet. I never noticed any increased levels in my blood glucose levels tho. Try one for a day or two, monitor your levels and see if they affect anything. Something that I do is look at the lables when I am not sure if something is ok for me. When you do this compare the lables from a diet soda to a regular soda and see what they look like, this will pretty much give you a answer as well.
Avatar m tn t say what you are doing to treat your diabetes? You need to learn to reduce your carbs, get exercise and you should be on oral medications. Yes, losing all that extra weight is crucial to controlling your diabetes. But crash dieting is not healthy for anyone and in the case of a diabetic can be dangerous.
Avatar f tn I had type 2 diabetes before I got pregnant. I'm 8 weeks and I inject insulin twice a day. They said if I don't control my levels my baby will be too overweight . any suggestions besides eating right and exercising? Is anyone else experiencing this?
Avatar f tn I have type 2 diabetes and I had it even before pregnancy.Till my 3rd trimester I was on medicine-metformin and diet. From third trimester it is just going up.So along with metformin I am on two types of insulin every day.But as of now my baby is doing fine.I am 34 W 6 days.
Avatar f tn If a certain food spikes you up say over 140 you might try a lesser amount of that food or just eliminate it from your diet. It is not really possible to make a list of foods to eat and not eat because we are all different. But a diet of protein and lots of fresh vegies, small amounts of fruit and small amounts of carbs should do best.
Avatar m tn i was diagnosed Diabetes type 2 in december 2010..I want to know that if someone is diabetic, how much he will live ???
Avatar n tn Changing lifestyle habits can go a long way in controlling type 2 diabetes. India leads the world in diabetes. This is mainly due to poor diet/nutrition. Things he must do: Restrict & avoid refined sugars, high carbohydrate foods, practice, avoid dairy products like milk and yogurt, avoid food made with white flour [breads, crackers, etc].
647391 tn?1275016633 I'd suggest keeping an eye on it just to be on the safe side. It's hard to say what can push someone into diabetes (sometimes just stress or wrong diet or just a pooping out pancreas). I don't think you have to be overly concerned though. I'd just test maybe once a day, but scatter the times when you do so you know how you run after certain events or meals etc. Some people only check once a week.
Avatar n tn It is taken orally along with diet and exercise, sometimes with other medications to help lower your glucose levels. How much and when is up to your doctor, not for anyone else to say, including yourself. Use Google search to educate yourself about Januvia [Sitagliptin].
8369322 tn?1397826669 Every bodies diabetes is unique to them , you have to control it, the only way to do that is to test. 5051252 tn?1362970368 i was talking to a friend regarding her diabetes type two, and she said she found out she had this by using a glucose monitor a few times a day for a week, reported her readings to her doctor and they did tests and diagnosed her. she said that her glucose levels were super high, so i decided to buy one just to try and see. i check myself three times a day - and the readings are normally around 80-90 every time, and sometimes that is about 30-60 minutes after eating. should i be concerned?

Avatar m tn Hello LCHF – Goodbye Type 2 Diabetes: "Two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, after having had morning blood sugar levels around 300 mg/dl (17 mmol/l), as self-monitored at home. Changed my diet to LCHF and my blood sugar levels are now consistently below 125 mg/dl (7 mmol/l), and most often at 90-105 mg/dl (5-6 mmol/l). I want to let you know that your website has given me proper information that I would have missed otherwise…" LCHF is low carb high fat.
Avatar f tn I am a type 2 diabetic and had a steroid shot in my knee how long does the blood sugar spike last? It spiked to 323 now at 291... HELP! It has been 2 days.
Avatar n tn Given your weight, diet and history you may be adult onset type 1 (research LADA) rather than type 2. Treatment for this is insulin rather than oral meds, usually. Your fasting no. are reasonable now, but your after eating is still too high. Yes, exercise and low carb eating are very helpful in controlling blood sugars and minimising med requirements. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn As you have now been defined as being a pre-diabetic, you must have been insulin resistant. Insulin resistance is the precursor to pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes and as weight increases, cells become more resistant to the insulin that the pancreas produces. Ask your doctor to refer you to a diabetic dietician to help you understand about diet. The types of foods to avoid are those that are highly processed and have high quantities of sugar.
