Avatar f tn Most primary care doctors are not clued in on diabetes care and treatment. This is where an Endocrinologist, a diabetes specialist, comes into play. If push comes to shove where she needs to hear from an expert get her to one.
Avatar n tn Given your weight, diet and history you may be adult onset type 1 (research LADA) rather than type 2. Treatment for this is insulin rather than oral meds, usually. Your fasting no. are reasonable now, but your after eating is still too high. Yes, exercise and low carb eating are very helpful in controlling blood sugars and minimising med requirements. Hope this helps.

283921 tn?1218525506 When I had a heart attack (MI) in 1992 I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic and was advised of the need to take insulin for the rest of my life.As the years went by and my insulin intake increased along with my weight but my sugar level remained fairly consistent HbA1c approx 7.2. In 2005 I decided on a life style change predominantly targeted at reducing my weight and found that I could reduce my insulin intake.
Avatar n tn t know if this test is available in the UK, but Decode Genetics, the Icelandic company whose researchers found the gene variant TCF7L2 gene appear to be associated with the highest risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, and also can predict the likelihood that a person will convert from a state of pre-diabetes [borderline blood sugar levels] to full-blown Type 2 diabetes. This is something you need to discuss with your Endocrinologist.
Avatar n tn Some people are able to control Type 2 diabetes with losing and maintaining healthy weight, lowering carb intake and regular exercise. Some are not, and need medication. It is impossible to answer your question because every diabetic is different and it would depend on how high your numbers were to begin with and what you ate and did. Serious consequences (complications) from diabetes don't occur in 24 hours, they occur over time spent at high numbers.
Avatar f tn Potatoes were a major thing during my pregnancy. I ate them everyday for lunch and sometimes for dinner and/or a late night snack. Anything sweet was also a big thing for me!
20620809 tn?1504362969 As numbers start to indicate heading toward diabetes, in the caution zone, what things should I be doing to head that off to make sure I don't end up with type 2 diabetes?
410475 tn?1262942367 everything thing in moderation. My mum has type 2, and has cake and an occasional coke. Do some exercises, lose weight if you have to look at alternative ways to lower sugar. My mum has cinnamon 1/4 tsp every morning in her coffee and uses xilotol instead of sugar no after taste at all. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Changing lifestyle habits can go a long way in controlling type 2 diabetes. India leads the world in diabetes. This is mainly due to poor diet/nutrition. Things he must do: Restrict & avoid refined sugars, high carbohydrate foods, practice, avoid dairy products like milk and yogurt, avoid food made with white flour [breads, crackers, etc].
8369322 tn?1397826669 I've been a type 2 diabetic for over 3 years. It crept up slowly on me, but when my A1C broke through 7.0, I was given 90 days to see a significant drift downward, or begin a drug therapy. I immediately began a paleo style diet. I refused to eat anything containing "white"; bread, sugar, rice, potatoes, pasta...PASTA!!. I also shunned grains of any kind like rolled oats, wheat. Also out were honey, most fruits, lots of types of beans, peas, and corn.
Avatar n tn what type of food should you eat when your doctor tell you you are pre diabetes. and put you on metformin?
558059 tn?1288550944 There are many many websites online regarding Type 2 diabetes. Complications from diabetes can be prevented by maintaining healthy blood sugars. I would suggest getting a meter and testing your blood sugar two hours after various meals so you see what foods and portions you can eat and stay under 140.

Avatar n tn With blood sugars in the 400s you are at serious risk of complications. Could there be a possibility that you have type 1 instead of type 2 diabetes. It is very likely that you need insulin. Can you get back to see a dr? This is urgent! You can have a stroke or heart attack with sugars this high.
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but a mom of a type one and the daughter of a type 2. In a type one diabetic commonly called Juvenile diabetes( because it usually is diagnoses in children , but I know people that were in they 30's and 40's and were diagnosed) is when the body stop s producing insulin. Type 2 diabetics your body still produces insulin, but cannot use it properly use the insulin without help of medication.
