Common Questions and Answers about Type 2 diabetes and ketosis

diabetes

Avatar n tn Dietary Ketosis has nothing to do with BG until your liver runs out of stored glucagon it can continue to raise BG (ie 8 - 10 hour high when fasting) how low are you going on the carbs? you can be in Ketosis with high BG. Ketosis means your body is using ketones for fuel instead of glucose. Diabetesforum(dot)com has many people doing diatery Ketosis.
Avatar n tn The reason for ketosis is due to not enough glucose and so the body has to break down stored fat and convert it into energy instead. Metabolizing fat raises blood ketone levels therefore leading to ketosis. Ketosis can occur with type 1 diabetes, alcoholism, starvation, and with a low carbohydrate, high fat/protein diet.
Avatar n tn I am a type 2 diabetic--non-medicated. I had breakfast, Honey Oats, at 10:00am and tested my blood sugar at noon, with a result of 281, which I have not seen before. What do I need to do? Thank you.
1436324 tn?1283698760 Welcome to the "club that nobody wants to join". For better or worse there are many people with Type 2 diabetes who ignore it completely and think it won't go away. Then there are people who manage it on a daily basis and successfully control their blood sugars. The ways to control type 2 diabetes is with change of diet (reduction of carbs), weight loss if necessary, exercise, and, if necessary, medication.
Avatar f tn About 4 months ago we began to notice that our 2 year old was drinking a lot of water. I was getting up 3-12 times a night to refill and give her more water. I gave it a little time thinking it had something to do with her teething (2 year molars). After a while, I mentioned it to our pediatrician at her 2 year checkup. She didnt seem worried about it, but it progressed to the point where I was getting her water all day long and then all night long.
Avatar n tn Some people are able to control Type 2 diabetes with losing and maintaining healthy weight, lowering carb intake and regular exercise. Some are not, and need medication. It is impossible to answer your question because every diabetic is different and it would depend on how high your numbers were to begin with and what you ate and did. Serious consequences (complications) from diabetes don't occur in 24 hours, they occur over time spent at high numbers.
Avatar m tn Ketotic hypoglycemia more commonly refers to a common but mysterious "disease" of recurrent hypoglycemic symptoms with ketosis in young children. The cause and the homogeneity of the condition remain uncertain,[1] but a characteristic presentation, precipitating factors, diagnostic test results, treatment, and natural history can be described. It remains one of the more common causes of hypoglycemia in the age range.
Avatar n tn It can also be due to anemia and periodic drops in blood sugar. Please consult a diabetes specialist and first get the sugar levels under control. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn I am not a physician, but a mom of a type one and the daughter of a type 2. In a type one diabetic commonly called Juvenile diabetes( because it usually is diagnoses in children , but I know people that were in they 30's and 40's and were diagnosed) is when the body stop s producing insulin. Type 2 diabetics your body still produces insulin, but cannot use it properly use the insulin without help of medication.

5051252 tn?1362970368 i was talking to a friend regarding her diabetes type two, and she said she found out she had this by using a glucose monitor a few times a day for a week, reported her readings to her doctor and they did tests and diagnosed her. she said that her glucose levels were super high, so i decided to buy one just to try and see. i check myself three times a day - and the readings are normally around 80-90 every time, and sometimes that is about 30-60 minutes after eating. should i be concerned?

Avatar n tn CLBear, You might enjoy a diabetes discussion board that's got topics for Type 2s and Type 1s and for the stuff we share. I highly recommend this site: http://chat.joslin.harvard.edu:8080/~diabetes You don't need to register to read the information there, but you may need to register to post (it's free, tho'). Folks who post can choose to be anonymous.
