Avatar n tn Some people are able to control Type 2 diabetes with losing and maintaining healthy weight, lowering carb intake and regular exercise. Some are not, and need medication. It is impossible to answer your question because every diabetic is different and it would depend on how high your numbers were to begin with and what you ate and did. Serious consequences (complications) from diabetes don't occur in 24 hours, they occur over time spent at high numbers.

159063 tn?1247272817 Sally is correct about diet, weight and exercise. These are the number one priorities in controlling diabetes, the guidelines to adhere too. Metformin is used to help assist with controlling glucose levels as long as one is following the guidelines of diabetes control. Glucophage is the proper name for Metformin. The RX stands for extended release. In other words, its like time release where the medicine remains longer in the body. Lifestyle change is needed, not change of medicine. Good luck.
Avatar m tn t say what you are doing to treat your diabetes? You need to learn to reduce your carbs, get exercise and you should be on oral medications. Yes, losing all that extra weight is crucial to controlling your diabetes. But crash dieting is not healthy for anyone and in the case of a diabetic can be dangerous.
5051252 tn?1362970368 i was talking to a friend regarding her diabetes type two, and she said she found out she had this by using a glucose monitor a few times a day for a week, reported her readings to her doctor and they did tests and diagnosed her. she said that her glucose levels were super high, so i decided to buy one just to try and see. i check myself three times a day - and the readings are normally around 80-90 every time, and sometimes that is about 30-60 minutes after eating. should i be concerned?
Avatar f tn I just realized that I haven't seen my diabetes specialist in about three years. On my last visit she "discharged" me to the care of my internist. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 5 years ago, at age 62. My glucose levels are stable at around 110, hB!ac 5.9. I've recently lost 25 kg, do some mild exercise and feel good. I'm taking metformin twice a day (750 mg).
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is different from type 1 diabetes, which isn't reversible. Type 2 can generally be reversed by changing your diet and getting plenty of exercise. The reason is that type 2 is caused by the body not being able to absorb or use the insulin it creates.

Tbd I have reversed pre diabetes (A1C 5.7 down to 4.9) and my brother has reversed insulin dependent Type 2 (A1C now 5.2) and no longer taking ANY medications for diabetes or high blood pressure. Avatar f tn Hello, I'm new to this. I'm 55 and was diagnosed with Type 2 last year. No family history, slender, and extremely sensitive to insulin. After researching I've concluded it's autoimmune diabetes which acts more like Type 1. I believe I developed this condition due to 27 years undiagnosed Hepatitis C infection I received in blood transfusion 1982. I treated with interferon last year and cleared the Hep C but diabetes rages on. I've recently adopted Dr.
Avatar m tn You may wish to ask your Dr if he will test you for type 1 diabetes, which you may possibly have given your age and how high your sugars were. If it is type 1 diabetes, you will need to continue taking insulin rather than oral meds. Please learn as much as you can about diabetes. It is managed through diet, exercise and medications (insulin and/or oral). You will need to monitor your blood sugar frequently to see how your medications are working too.
Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Metformin for type 2 diabetes and have gone from 500 mg to 1,500 mg per day. A1C and glucose is worsening despite higher dose and strict diet, exercise. Does my body have an issue with the drug? I was considering Berberine as a natural supplement instead of Metformin, thoughts?
Avatar f tn It is believed that Type 2 can be prevented or delayed in its onset by proper diet and exercise just like you would do if you actually had Type 2. As far as I know there is no way to prevent Type 1.
