Avatar n tn Hello Candikane, Your doctor's advice is surprising to me, also. I'm guessing that s/he is not a diabetes specialist and that's the type of physician who should be guiding your diabetes care. Specialists might be called endocrinologist or diabetologist. None of us here is a physician, but we're long-time diabetics or care-givers for diabetic children. You didn't mention if you've been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2, and the treatment options vary for these types.

Avatar n tn I also noted the JAMA reminder/caution that food does not cause Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. This study and others looked at the impact of specific foods/timing of introduction in at-risk children. Please know that Type 2 is a completely different disease than Type 1. Type 1 is autoimmune, and researchers are striving to find out what triggers (or doesn't) trigger the disease. Type 2 has completely different origins.

Many epidemiological studies have shown an association between T2DM and chronic hepatitis C (CHC) infection. The processes through which CHC is associated with T2DM seem to involve direct viral effects, insulin resistance, proinflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and other immune-mediated mechanisms.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am suffering from an unexplained xerostomia for more than two years now and it seems HCV might be one of the causes. My anti-HCV tests are negative so far however I heard that often HCv is detected only with PCR RNA tests. Anyone can comment on this? The other common causes for xerostomia are HIV and HTLV (tested already for both). Thanks.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what is the reason I have excess saliva and spray people when I talk to them. It started about 15 years ago. I have hashimotos, and type 2 diabetes. Avatar m tn I see you have the word 'diabetes' crossed. Diabetes is a Greek word meaning large amounts of urine. Both diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus fall into this realm but both are separate mechanisms. This forum deals mostly with type 2 diabetes, people who have high blood sugar levels [mellitus]. Diabetes insipidus is kidney related. For best answers, the forum to post on is Kidney Disease & Disorders.

Both hypertension and diabetes mellitus alter endothelial cell structure and function.

Avatar f tn Once a person has one autoimmune condition, the chances of getting another (or more) are much greater... there's no guarantee what the additional condition(s) might be. There's a whole list of autoimmune conditions and we can get anyone of them. Autoimmunes also tend to run in families, but not every member of a family will get the same condition... for instance, I have Hashimoto's and Pernicious Anemia, my son has Type 1 Diabetes and my daughter has Lupus.
