Avatar n tn I also noted the JAMA reminder/caution that food does not cause Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. This study and others looked at the impact of specific foods/timing of introduction in at-risk children. Please know that Type 2 is a completely different disease than Type 1. Type 1 is autoimmune, and researchers are striving to find out what triggers (or doesn't) trigger the disease. Type 2 has completely different origins.

Avatar n tn Below is the FDA information released by Astra Zeneca regarding this very issue Patients with risk factors for diabetes mellitus (eg, obesity, family history of diabetes) who are starting treatment with atypical antipsychotics should undergo fasting blood glucose testing at the beginning of treatment. Any patient treated with atypical antipsychotics should be monitored for symptoms of hyperglycemia including polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, and weakness.
Avatar m tn I see you have the word 'diabetes' crossed. Diabetes is a Greek word meaning large amounts of urine. Both diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus fall into this realm but both are separate mechanisms. This forum deals mostly with type 2 diabetes, people who have high blood sugar levels [mellitus]. Diabetes insipidus is kidney related. For best answers, the forum to post on is Kidney Disease & Disorders.
15114787 tn?1438541373 type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and T2DM. T2DM is a common endocrine disorder that encompasses multifactorial mechanisms, and T1DM is an immunologically mediated disease. Many epidemiological studies have shown an association between T2DM and chronic hepatitis C (CHC) infection. The processes through which CHC is associated with T2DM seem to involve direct viral effects, insulin resistance, proinflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and other immune-mediated mechanisms.
Avatar f tn Chronic infection with HCV is associated with insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes [61]. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes has been reported to be 14–50% in patients with chronic HCV infection [62]. HCV-associated diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance and does not appear to be associated with antibodies directed towards the beta cells in the islets of Langerhans [63].
Avatar n tn Well I am also a female with diabetes and i am 18 yrs old. I want to say that The JDRF team member shows an excellent point about the rebellious stages that usually happen in teenhood. I went through them myself and realized there was no point. When I was first diagnosed I was 11 and was very self concious about my diabetes. I couldn't even say the word diabetes for almost 2 yrs. i also didn't want anyone to know what i had to do as far as shots were concerned.
Avatar m tn BYDUREON is an injectable prescription medicine that may improve blood sugar (glucose) in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and should be used along with diet and exercise. BYDUREON is not recommended as the first medication to treat diabetes." If it's "not recommended as the first medication to treat diabetes" is AMYLIN saying Bydureon is to be used with other medications? This something you need to discuss with your health care provider.
Avatar f tn I went in for a regular checkup, because I have frequent urination and thirst. The doctor checked my sugar levels through urine and then she told the medical assistant to do it with blood. While I was in the room with the medical assistant, she told me the doctor want her to check my blood because I have high glucose levels in my urine. She said I could be pre- diabetic and etc. So when the doctor came in she said your blood is good.
Avatar n tn I am a 38yr old female (American living in Australia) and have just received a probable diagnosis of diabetes and am currently undergoing tests to determine type 1 or type II. I am an active person, slender and have relatively good eating habits and what I've been told "an atypical case" for diabetes. But I have recently begun losing weight unintentionally. Avatar n tn I know I am insulin dependent because I cannot take my pump off except for the rare few minutes or so without my sugar sky rocketing. Now would u still call this Type 2 Diabetes or Type 1? Hearing the words Juvenile Diabetes associated with Type 1 throws me off obviously because I was not diagnosed as a juvenile. But also the words Insulin Dependent are associated with the Type 1. So I DO fit into that category.
Avatar f tn This condition is characterized by autoimmune thyroiditis along with another organ-specific autoimmune disease.[1][2][3] The other autoimmune diseases may include diabetes mellitus, pernicious anemia, vitiligo, alopecia, myasthenia gravis, and Sjogren's syndrome.
Tbd Simply stated, ATP is what fuels our bodies. However, an individual with type 2 diabetes mellitus does not produce sufficient insulin or is not capable of utilizing endogenous insulin in order to facilitate the transport of glucose into the cells. This results in hyperglycemia. This does not mean that all carbohydrates must be avoided but it is necessary to limit carbohydrate intake and to choose what are called complex carbohydrates in place of simple carbohydrates.
Avatar f tn By the way, I have Diabetes Mellitus Type 1. Could that somehow be connected with this? Please tell me what could be behind this chest discomfort. Thank you.

Endothelium cells line the blood vessels and act and function as a monitor to the system's nerve center. For example, when the blood flow is reduced (i.e. low cardiac output or loss of blood...
Avatar f tn I have autoimmune pernicious anaemia (rare juvenile form), Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and vitiligo. I handle things far better when i have a diagnosis. ;) About 25% of patients with autoimmune diseases have a tendency to develop additional autoimmune diseases. Three or more autoimmune diseases is known as multiple autoimmune syndrome (MAS). The MAS classifications are helpful if signs of another autoimmune disease emerges.
