Avatar n tn Hello, i am type 1 diabetic for 46 years. I have been on medicare a and b plus company retirment insurance for 10 years. My retirement co is switching from a private plan to medicare prescription coverage. My problem is the gap which I will surely reach with the insulin I use (lantus and humolog) Do you know of any insurance that will cover the insulin through the gap. My private insurance covereage provided through my company retirement covered all of the insulin costs.
Avatar n tn Hello Candikane, Your doctor's advice is surprising to me, also. I'm guessing that s/he is not a diabetes specialist and that's the type of physician who should be guiding your diabetes care. Specialists might be called endocrinologist or diabetologist. None of us here is a physician, but we're long-time diabetics or care-givers for diabetic children. You didn't mention if you've been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2, and the treatment options vary for these types.
Avatar n tn Hi again, Handsome -- I've coined my own term -- at least I *think* I've invented it. I use the term "DMer" much like someone might say a person so runs is a runner; a person who jogs is a jogger. We who manage our diabetes mellitus are DMers in my vocabulary.
Avatar f tn Chronic infection with HCV is associated with insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes [61]. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes has been reported to be 14–50% in patients with chronic HCV infection [62]. HCV-associated diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance and does not appear to be associated with antibodies directed towards the beta cells in the islets of Langerhans [63].
Avatar n tn I am a type 1 diabetic and just got married! And it's great (which has nothing to do with diabetes). I think that you parents are having some other issue, either with him or with the idea of you growing up. Plus, if you love him, then you love all of him. He may even be a lot healthier because a lot of people with diabetes take better care of themselves than other people! Don't base your relationship decisions on diabetes!
Avatar n tn I am a Type I diabetic and have two children, 2 and 4, both are healthy, happy children. My husband was very concerned about our children having diabetes too. I was not as worried. I would suggest reading and being very informed about the chances of your future child developing diabetes because it will ease your fears. You could look on the JDRF website or other sites that give you true medical information. The chances are extremely low that your child will develop diabetes.
Avatar f tn Gallstone heredity, dyslipidaemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome increased the risk for GD in controls vs HCV patients. Our study shows that even HCV patients with chronic hepatitis but not cirrhosis have an increased prevalence of gallstones. Compared with controls, gallstones are present in HCV patients at a younger age and are associated with central obesity and liver steatosis, but not with gallstone heredity, dyslipidaemia, diabetes mellitus or metabolic syndrome.
Avatar n tn You may try low carb eating, which is very helpful for blood sugar management. Type 1 grit is a group with great support and information on low carb eating for diabetes management. Look also into Dr. Richard Bernstein's Diabetes SOlutions book and Diabetes University (Utube), which has great and useful series of lectures on managing blood sugars. A CGM (continuous glucose monitoring device) can also be very useful, though frequent finger prick testing is also ok.
15114787 tn?1438541373 type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and T2DM. T2DM is a common endocrine disorder that encompasses multifactorial mechanisms, and T1DM is an immunologically mediated disease. Many epidemiological studies have shown an association between T2DM and chronic hepatitis C (CHC) infection. The processes through which CHC is associated with T2DM seem to involve direct viral effects, insulin resistance, proinflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and other immune-mediated mechanisms.
Avatar n tn I turn 52 on July 14. I have had type 1 diabetes since I was 1.5 years of age. I'm having some complications but continue to fight it everyday.
Avatar n tn There is no doctor on this board, John, only other diabetics. Heat can have very unpredictable effects on blood sugar. Do the diabetics in your company test regularly and have well managed blood sugars? Do they carry glucose tablets with them at all times in case of unexpected lows. Diabetes is very much a condition that needs awareness and self-management.
1073484 tn?1257158912 Proper blood sugar management to near normal levels is the key. But to prevent complications from ever developing to a person with type 1 diabetes especially during childhood is i think a shot to the moon. Realistically,we can only hope to delay the onset of the myriad complications first of which is, eye problems, most notably retinopathy. Some people manage it for decades, and some only years.
Avatar m tn This is especially true for NAFLD[10] and possibly HCV.[11] Additionally, type 2 diabetes and other components of metabolic syndrome may have a negative impact on the efficacy of anti-HCV therapy, and the preliminary findings suggest that insulin sensitizing medications may allow a higher virological response rate to anti-HCV treatment.[11–13] Hepatitis C infection alone may directly influence glucose and lipid metabolism and increases the risk for development of type 2 diabetes.

Avatar n tn //my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/7104-diabetes-mellitus-an-overview/diagnosis-and-tests https://www.diabetes.org/a1c/diagnosis Perhaps your A1C levels were at pre-diabetic levels, but your blood glucose levels were higher. It sounds like you've been doing really well, though, but you should talk to your doctor, though, because since it's already been high, you need to keep on top of it.
Avatar f tn yes please do check out that very informative site....this Dr. Pierson gives really indepth info also instructions on how to do home blood glucose monitoring...anyone with a diabetic cat needs this as their bible:)) Pip....I just re-read Dr. Piersons site...and she has it written right there that a low carb diet has reduced or eliminated the need for insulin...I will copy some of the studies she has quotes...great job papa cat!!!
Avatar n tn For a personwith type2 diabetes what might happen to blood glucose levels over 1 24 hr period if they had not taken any medication for controling their diabetes? What serious consequence could result?
521895 tn?1212594011 I'm curious to hear stories of successes and complications from being a type 1 diabetic and also being pregnant. I'm not worried about GETTING pregnant, but I am a little worried about my brittle type 1 diabetes and the extreme swings - I go from high to low very quickly and vice versa - it's extremely difficult to stay in range even on a strict diet and insulin pump. When it comes time for me to get pregnant, what do I have to worry about?
Avatar m tn However, she will need to be careful with diet and work to maintain her blood sugars as close to non-diabetic levels as possible. Some people with type 1 diabetes find that a very low carb diet is very helpful for normalizing sugar levels, along with insulin dosing, of course. I have had diabetes for 11 years now and using insulin for 11 years... my a1c is usually 5.0 - 5.2. I eat very low carb. I have no detectable diabetes complications.
Avatar n tn He said it was 5.1. Which is low for a type 1 diabetic. I was diagnosed with diabetes 6 yrs ago, I am 26 right now. He said all of my blood work was absolutely perfect, cholesterol, liver enzymes, etc. I am currently taking 70/30 twice a day 10 units each time. He suggested that I lower my dosage. My question is that with my Ha1c being so low is that normal for a diabetic? He seems to be in shock. I lost 10 lbs recently too. He said he has never seen bloodwork so perfect for a diabetic.
Avatar n tn Most type 1 diabetics do NOT have diabetic children. Most children of diabetic women are very healthy. I have been diabetic since age 12 (35 years now), and am a mother of two children, who are both healthy and happy young adults now in their 20's. So don't necessarily give up on the idea of children. The main issue is how well her diabetes is under control. If she is well-controlled, having children is no more difficult for her than for other young women.
