Avatar n tn As Zoe suggested, talk with your doctor to help get your glucose under control. Conditions associated with type 1 diabetes include hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, ketoacidosis and celiac disease. Go here for a good read on hypoglycemia. http://www.diabetes.org/type-1-diabetes/hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn Congratulations!!! I too am a type 1 diabetic and my son just turned 1 last month. I had a pretty healthy pregnancy but it was very hard work. As the person above told you call your doc immediately and ask for a Rx for prenatal vitamins. Also, one of the most important nutrients for your baby is folic acid or folate. This is especially important for diabetics!!! The best sources are spinach (I know yuck...
Avatar n tn Type 1(juvenile) diabetes is most often diagnosed in childhood, but young adults and seniors can develop type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes occurs when the persons pancreas stops producing insulin, resulting in the rise of blood sugar. Because Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmunine disease (like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis), the person's own immune system destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. More than 1 million Americans have Type 1 diabetes, for which there is no cure.
Avatar n tn I can't believe I've never used this resource before as I've had Type 1 since I was 11. I'm 33 now, and except for a rough first couple years, I've had great control. One thing that made things easier for me was that since grade school I've almost always been able to ride my bike to school and later to work. I've found that the routine physical activity seems to keep my metabolism grounded.
Avatar n tn I was recently put on vicodin (hydrocodone/Apap) for ovarian pain and was curious if anyone has ever heard of Vicodin lowering blood sugars. I am a type 1 so I can't really figure this out. I haven' t changed anything and seem to be getting 3-4 low's a day(-60mg/dl). This never used to happen to me so it is a little nerve racking. I have a call into my Endocrinologist but he is on vacation and his colleague just said to test more.

Avatar f tn I would see your doctor about this very soon, as folks with hypoglycemia may develop diabetes later on. You may have pre-diabetes, and need to go on a diabetic diet. Meanwhile, make sure you have both protein and carbohydrates with all meals, and with all snacks, which you seem to be doing. You also might need to get a dietary consult and/or see an endocrinologist, for both are specially trained in working with people with blood sugar problems.
Avatar f tn You have posted on the type 2 forum, hyperglycemia, not type 1 aka juvenile diabetes. Prepare yourself to ask your doctor questions by using Google and search on 'hyperglycemia testing' and/or 'type 1 diabetes testing'. Also, call the doctor's office and ask if you should fast 8-10 hours prior. To add to allymarbles, an endocrinologist is a doctor who specializes in diabetes care and treatment. Most PCP's know only basic care - here take this pill, call me later.
Avatar f tn I am little confused after reading some info on Diabetes & Hypoglycemia. I have been told I am Insulin resistant & Hypoglycemic.....does this mean I am borderline Diabetic? I am 37 years old. I am on Metformin twice a day....any info would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed Type 1 (1.5) much later in life but I have spoken with many young diabetics and unfortunately, this rebellion stage is not uncommon. After being forced from a young age to be so disciplined they miss the freedom that their peers have and then stop for a time managing their diabetes as they should. You really can't make your son control his diabetes even though I know how hard this must be for you. One thing that might help is if he could connect to other diabetics his age.
Avatar n tn t say if you have type 1 diabetes. How low does your blood sugar drop at how long after eating. Then how high does it spike? Are you on medication or insulin?
Avatar n tn It can lead to type 2 diabetes, and many people do suffer from hypoglycemia before developing type 2 diabetes. Other people never develop type 2 diabetes at all, but remain hypoglycemic. Your best actions are to do what you can to prevent the lows while also doing what you can to prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.
Avatar n tn i am a not aphysican, but a volunteer and a mom of a type 1 diabeic. I have no t had any experience with your situation, however i have researched and found i website for CIDP that might be able to give you more information. http://www.cidpusa.org/ Sorry I could not be of more help. Hope the website helps.
1080243 tn?1262975363 If you have diabetes, dangerously high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) or dangerously low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can lead to a diabetic coma. If you lapse into a diabetic coma, you're alive — but you can't awaken or respond purposefully to sights, sounds or other types of stimulation. Left untreated, a diabetic coma can be fatal. A diabetic coma doesn't strike out of the blue. You'll first experience signs and symptoms of high blood sugar or low blood sugar.
Avatar n tn Have an endocrinologist take a close look at her over a period of glucose intake she sounds type 1 to me. I have had type 1 diabetes for 30 years and was misdiagnosed the first 20 years of my life. Believe it or not. I almost died before I got insulin. I was in a honeymoon state and my sugars were fluctuating radically. A lot of type 1 will have hypoglycemia before their onset. Don't wait to have her checked you could save her kidneys and eyes at this age.
Avatar n tn Actually all types of diabetes, Type 1, Type 2 and LADA/Type 1.5 can entail both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, it's kind of the nature of the beast. And when you treat diabetes with insulin, oral meds and even diet and exercise it can exacerbate these extremes. The key is to try and balance your blood sugar so it avoids both extreme. Hypoglycemia is uncomfortable and if severe, dangerous. Hyperglycemia leads to complications.
Avatar n tn He said it was 5.1. Which is low for a type 1 diabetic. I was diagnosed with diabetes 6 yrs ago, I am 26 right now. He said all of my blood work was absolutely perfect, cholesterol, liver enzymes, etc. I am currently taking 70/30 twice a day 10 units each time. He suggested that I lower my dosage. My question is that with my Ha1c being so low is that normal for a diabetic? He seems to be in shock. I lost 10 lbs recently too. He said he has never seen bloodwork so perfect for a diabetic.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with type II diabetes, and my physician at the time immediately put me on actoplusmet (no discussion of diet and excersise control first). I told him that I previously had gestational diabetes that once on diet alone caused my blood sugar levels to drop so low that the meter read in the 40's and sometimes just LOW. The nutritionsts then changed my diet so that it was double portion sizes and everything read perfectly.
Avatar n tn My 15 year-old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 12. She currently wears an insulin pump. The last 2 months she has experienced very high blood sugars (300-600) around the time of her period. The blood sugars remain high for approx. 48 hours despite our best efforts (insulin every 2-3 hours and lots of water) to bring them down. After a couple of days she is back in the normal range. The pump is working fine and she has not had ketones either time as well.
Avatar n tn Hi gordiesmom, First, I need to tell you that I am not a medical professional, I am simply a volunteer and mother of a child living with type 1 diabetes. Any advice / input I give you is based solely on knowledge obtained through my personal experience. My son was diagnosed over 6-1/2 yrs. ago at the age of 3. My sister also has type 1 and was diagnosed over 8-1/2 yrs. ago at the age of 24.
Avatar n tn Lemons~sorry for not getting an answer to you, there seems to have been a bit of confusion with our Holiday volunteer scheduling. You've had great comments from others and I can simply add that I believe that LRS is right in saying it's time to see your doctor for sure to get to the bottom of all your symptoms. We are not doctors here, simply people who themselves have type 1 or have loved ones who have type 1, so we can't offer you medical advice.
