Common Questions and Answers about Type 1 diabetes and night sweats

diabetes

Avatar n tn I have been Type 1 diabetic for 45 years, I have had night sweats, for many years some times so wet that we have had to strip the bed and move into the spare room, My wife tells me that the wetness don’t smell like sweat in fact it is odourless, I have no smell at all, lost that years ago, the "sweats" as we call them are a mystery to all and some time two nights in a row then nothing for a month or so.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, i had a question concerning night sweats and running. i am 28 male, and just recently 2 week ago started running trying to get back in shape and cutting my smoking habit. have been smoking almost a pack a day now down to 1/2 a pack a day. Ive noticed that since i started running, i get night sweats occasionally. its not a drenching in sweat more like a mild moist sweat. is this normal, has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar n tn I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF SWEATING SUCH AS NIGHT SWEATS, OR EVEN WHAT I CALL HOT FLASHES DURING THE DAY?? HOT AND THEN COLD LATER?? HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS? AT NIGHT I WAKE UP AND I'M DRIPPING FROM SWEAT REALLY WEIRD. I ASKED IF IT COULD BE PREMENOPAUSE TO MY GP BUT HE SAID MAYBE IT'S RELATED TO DIABETES? I SOMEHOW HAVE MY DOUBTS ITS MY DIABETES. MY SUGARS ARE ALWAYS IN GOOD READINGS. THANKS.
Avatar n tn Emphysema does not cause night sweats. Recurrent night sweats would actually suggest that you have another health problem, unrelated to emphysema, but possibly an infectious pulmonary disease, such as tuberculosis (TB). Diabetes can also cause night sweats as can a number of other diseases. Finally, it is not uncommon for a person to have night sweats, for no apparent cause, but that should not be your assumption. I suggest that you see your doctor, for evaluation of the night sweats.
Avatar n tn Hi Dalki, Yes, in time your doctor will likely know for sure which type of diabetes you have. In addition to Type 1 and Type 2, there seems to be a type 1.5 ... tho' there's some thought that 1.5s are just in the early stages of Type 1. We DMers (folks with diabetes mellitis) and our docs often call that a honeymoon phase. I hope you're feeling better now that your bloodsugar has begun to come down. Things may remain volatile for a while, so try to be patient with yourself.
Avatar f tn Hello im 13 years old and i have type one diabetes and normally if i want to do exercise to help regulate my blood sugar i go jogging or biking but just make sure you dont overdo it because it may result in low blood sugar.
Avatar n tn My son sweats very heavily during the first 2 - 4 hours of sleep at night (enough to drench the bed), or even when napping. He stops sweating later in the early morning hours, and his body is usually cool and dry. During the day he runs and plays, eats well, and doesn't seem to show any other adverse symptoms.
Avatar n tn I'm turning 21 next week and have just been diagnosed with type 1 about a month ago. I'm still figuring it out. I celebrated my friends birthday last night and had about 2.5 drinks of vodka soda. Has no carbs and my glucose levels stayed pretty stable through the night. I ate a sandwich when I got home just in case (because it was my first time drinking since being diagnosed) which actually made me wake up a little high because I didn't cover it with insulin.
Avatar n tn herringv, I need to do some research to answer your question, so pls check back, too. Some medications seem to make us more (or less) sensitive to insulin; other meds can affect our appetites and interest in food at all. While I'm not a physician, what I know of most folks with Type 1 diabetes, it is not a disease that can go away without a transplant - and that's not an option for most (research will hopefully change that reality for us).
Avatar n tn There are more than 1 antibody to test for, and also some other tests to define between type 1 and 2. Dinner persons with type 1 are apparently antibody negative. Your presentation doesnt appear typical for type 2. Please see what your endocrinologist says. Regardless, if insulin is what works then don't be concerned to take it. Let us know what happens with your endo visit.
307500 tn?1302116146 Says because I have Clusters of AutoImmune Diseases I most likly have type 1 diabetes. This week He has run lost of test, blood, and heart tests and blood flow. Avatar n tn Between December 2002 and October 2005, 189 non-diabetic patients were treated with Peg-IFN-alpha/Riba, of whom five developed type 1 DM (2.6%), three type 2 DM (1.6%) and one an indeterminate type of DM. Classical symptoms of DM were present in three patients who developed DM shortly after cessation of Peg-IFN-alpha/Riba. In the other patients, symptoms of DM were either indistinguishable from side effects caused by Peg-IFN-alpha/Riba or absent.
Avatar n tn If taking the Lantus now at night, you would have to start off by backing off 1 unit at night and adding 1 unit in the next morning. Weight 2 days, and then back off another unit and add another in the next morning. Keep doing this until the balance is correct.
Avatar n tn m talking very bad night sweats, then this is a precursor for ED. And your type 1 diabetes is not a help, and that is probably were your main problem comes from in the way of ED, and as you say can still have a sex life then your ahead of the game there.
Avatar n tn i had my right ovary and fallopian tube removed 4 weeks ago due to a very large cyst being attached to my ovary. Ever since then i have suffered really awful and bad night sweats. I have discussed it with the doctor but he has said it is a hormone unbalance and the left ovary is playing catch up and needs to work for both ovaries now the right one has gone and this may take a while. In the mean time i am literally surviving on 2 hours sleep a night.
Avatar n tn I also noted the JAMA reminder/caution that food does not cause Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. This study and others looked at the impact of specific foods/timing of introduction in at-risk children. Please know that Type 2 is a completely different disease than Type 1. Type 1 is autoimmune, and researchers are striving to find out what triggers (or doesn't) trigger the disease. Type 2 has completely different origins.
Avatar n tn Although both men and women suffered from their most intense and most frequent symptoms from the ages of 41 to 55, this report focused on aged subjects in order to isolate the effects of night sweats themselves from the effects of menopause and its associated symptoms. Night sweats during menopause are usually caused by estrogen deficiency, but because both older men and postmenopausal women experience night flashes, in this older group that is less likely to be the case.
Avatar f tn I have type 1 diabetes, and have had this challenging disease for 30 years. I am believing that I may be having the first signs of some nerve damage and am wondering what doctors/specialists I sure see. Right now I have a family practioner, and have had this same doctor for years....any suggestions on where to go next? I have excellent insurance (not always the case) and want to take care of this before the situation gets worse? Help.
Avatar n tn I know I am insulin dependent because I cannot take my pump off except for the rare few minutes or so without my sugar sky rocketing. Now would u still call this Type 2 Diabetes or Type 1? Hearing the words Juvenile Diabetes associated with Type 1 throws me off obviously because I was not diagnosed as a juvenile. But also the words Insulin Dependent are associated with the Type 1. So I DO fit into that category.
Avatar f tn I recently was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, will I ever be able to eat whatever I want again? If so, how long do you think that will be, I miss my chocolate!!
Avatar f tn Yes. Someone with type 1 diabetes must take insulin daily and monitor and control their blood sugars very well if they are to stay alive and avoid complications of diabetes.
