Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes ..We tried the oral meds for a bit and eventually had to move on to Insulin shots twice a day...Well I started an insulin pump when my son was born in 2003. I have been on it ever since. I know I am insulin dependent because I cannot take my pump off except for the rare few minutes or so without my sugar sky rocketing. Now would u still call this Type 2 Diabetes or Type 1?
Avatar n tn then when your baby gets to school age, get an insulin pump. Also, the meter called the Freestyle Lite is great! It is the only meter right now that will not only light up the screen, but it will also light up your baby's finger when you ***** it so that you do not have to turn on a light in the room at night that might wake the baby up. Good luck!
574118 tn?1305135284 //www.webmd.com/diabetes/insulin-pump It states that doctors like the pump because it delivers insulin SLOWLY like the pancreas, mimicing that better than injections. IIt also can be set to delvier different amounts at different times of the day. t is computerized so considered to be more accurate and exact. It also really helps with the morning sugar issues so many have issues with. Research shows that it's usage improves glucose blood levels greatly.
Avatar f tn I use Novorapid as my quick acting and have low doses of that (10, 6, 8) and 16 Lantus. I have been type 1 diabteic for 26 years (since I was 5) and have not had problems with my weight but in the last 6 weeks have gained 5.1kg I am very active and am finding this hard to deal with. Can anyone shed any light on to what I can do to loose weight as i have tried everything ! I am considering going onto an Insulin pump.
Avatar n tn I have been diabetic for almost 10 years, 1/2 on injections and half on a pump. Due to my active lifestyle and eating habits, I prefer the pump because I had too much variability on injections, so that was my personal choice. When I work out I suspend my pump to prevent lows and I will normally have a light snack (only if my sigar is below 100) before I exercise. It might be beneficial for you to seek the advice of a dietician to plan your meals accordingly.
Avatar n tn I have a friend whose husband has type-1 diabetes. He is in his early thirties and had a job for 3 years in which he had to drive around town. His blood sugar dropped one day when he was off work and he had an accident and lost his drivers license.
Avatar f tn m not familiar with Celiacs disease but type 1 diabetes has absolutely no effect on weight loss.. I have type 1 diabetes and I work out about 5 or 6 hours a day 5 days a week.

2009318 tn?1328025437 Also are u on a pump or injections? I ask because with my first i was on injections and 2nd with a pump and it was so much easier to manage with my pump.
Avatar n tn Having diabetes has really opened my eyes to this disease, even though I should have been much more aware, considering my grandfather died of complications from Type 1 diabetes and currently my grandmother and aunt (same side of the family) have type 2. Again, I'm very happy this forum exists and thanks in advance for any help, tips or suggestions you can offer me!!
Avatar n tn My boyfriend is 18 years old. He has had type 1 diabetes since he was 7 years old, and about 4 years ago was given a pump to regulate his insulin. I'm concerned because he doesn't eat properly, and I think it's because he relies on the pump so he can eat things with high sugar. He'll eat all the cookies and sweets he wants and then just use the pump to bring his sugar down, which I think is kinda typical since he's a teenager (I am too, so I'm guilty as well).
Avatar n tn I'm turning 21 next week and have just been diagnosed with type 1 about a month ago. I'm still figuring it out. I celebrated my friends birthday last night and had about 2.5 drinks of vodka soda. Has no carbs and my glucose levels stayed pretty stable through the night. I ate a sandwich when I got home just in case (because it was my first time drinking since being diagnosed) which actually made me wake up a little high because I didn't cover it with insulin.
Avatar n tn I am 22 and a type 1 for 1 year on a minimed pump. I was having issues with irregular menstrual cycles, so my doctor put me on a low dosage birth control pill, but since going on the pill 3 days ago, my blood sugars have been elevated despite doubling my insulin doses. I finally figured out new ratios to keep my blood sugars under control, but am taking more than twice as much insulin.(.
Avatar n tn I AM 55 AND A DIABETIC ON INSULIN PUMP PARADIGN 715. I HAVE NO INSURANCE AND NEED HELP BUYING MY SUPPLIES. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE.
Avatar f tn My question is, has anyone out there with Type 1 diabetes tried to lose weight, and if so, what sort of diet did they follow? Also, what has their physician/nutritionist recommended when they experience moderately "low sugar levels" to restore them, if not coca-cola? And finally, has anyone commented on whether or not the cola should be with with or without caffeine? Thank you for any input. She exercises on the treadmill.
Avatar f tn I'm 29 and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 18 months ago. it has been extremely difficult to lose weight since I got on insulin. i am on lantas/humalog and exercise regularly. If I work to reduce my lantus dosage while maintaining a proper blood sugar will that aid weight loss? Does anything out there help to boost metabolism in diabetics? Frustrated! Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the information maybe my doctor will go ahead and let me try the pump. I agree I think the pump is better and the last solution I have left to try but for some reason the last Endocrinologist I seen said that the pump might be more harmful. I had never heard that comment but I said ok . So maybe when I see him again and he checks over my daily log he will consider the pump.
Avatar n tn If you test often, you can catch both problems and normalize them. I send you congratulations, and wishes for a healthy pregnancy. I am a type 1 diabetic since childhood, and I had two healthy pregnancies resulting in two beautiful and healthy children. The real key, from all that I have read, is good glucose control during the whole pregnancy, especially at the very first and near the end of the pregnancy. Best wishes to you!
Avatar n tn I am an adult with type 1 and I am about to embark on my first international travel since I have had type 1. There are so many restrictions with carrying food on board, liquids, gels etc. I have spoken to airlines and they can't tell me the finer details - they just say I need to get a letter from my doctor. I need to carry food items with me at all times and am feeling very anxious about going through security procedures.
Avatar m tn s been Type 1 for 8.5 years. He is on an insulin pump, using Novolog. Does your son do injections or a pump? My DS eats OK. He eats more junk than I'd like at times, but he's a kid and even his endo says that they are teens, will not make the best food choices and just need to make sure they are taking insulin to cover the carbs. Maybe his meal bolus or basal amounts of insulin need to be tweaked? Could he be forgetting to take his insulin, or not taking it at the right time?
Avatar n tn I assume you get regularly tested for thyroid to make sure that isn't the cause of your weight gain and you don't need an adjustment in thyroid meds. Insulin doesn't make people gain weight, though sometimes people lose weight when initially diagnosed with very high numbers and when their blood sugar gets under control they continue eating the same way and gain weight. Another cause of weight gain in Type 1's is insulin resistance.
Avatar n tn Well I did get a pump(eventually 4years latter after very brittle uncontrolled type 1 diabetes for 10 years) and now I have way better control. I mean the pump is what I needed. The doctors keeping it away for whatever reason kinda confuses me now. What if they would of let me have it as soon as I got my medicare? Who knows. Maybe the complications wouldn't be so far advanced now. A1c before pump 13+ after pump 8.5 and below.
Avatar n tn Especially if you lost a lot of weight (a sign of undiagnosed Type I diabetes) and your body is now trying to recover and return to a more favorable weight. As diabetics we also tend to focus more on food in general, since it is what causes our sugar to rise, so in many cases people actually end up eating more, such as during hypoglycemia or in anticipation of low sugars. You say you don't do much physical excercise. That may be something you need to consider.
Avatar f tn I have had type 1 diabetes for around 8 years now. Me and my husband are trying to get pregnant. I've had 2 miscarriages. I'm just wondering what are some tips or advice that you guys have? What foods should I eat? Anyone had this problem? Just looking for advice in what to do. I do shots right now but am looking into insulin pump.
