Tussionex side effects hydrocodone

Common Questions and Answers about Tussionex side effects hydrocodone

tussionex

Avatar n tn Tussionex stops coughing well, but it carries a risk of potential side effects, including drowsiness, constipation, lightheadedness, and vomiting. The hydrocodone component is also an addictive medication and should be used with caution.
286124 tn?1214938528 One side affect of hydrocodone is constipation. So if it is in tussinex, it would also be a side affect. When was on lortabs, I would eat that yogurt Activa. It is suppose to help with the bowels. It seemed to help some. Also try to eat plenty of fiber.
636562 tn?1223667445 I recently had a bad reaction to Tussionex Suspension and had to go to the ER. I agree with the doctor that I had a reaction to the Tussionex, but I'm wondering why it affected me so long after I initially took it (I didn't have any symptoms for the first 7-8 hours). I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I thought a pharmacist would be the best one to answer my question. How do extended release medications work?
Avatar n tn You should ask your pharmacist. I don't know how much hydrocodone Tussionex has in it, but I wouldn't take both of them. Both medications contain hydrocodone, which you probably already know. That is a very strong narcotic and not one you want to OD on. You can take as much as 10 mg of hydrocodone at a time. That could leave yoy feeling quite out of it though if it is too much for your system. I would probably wait 6 hours from the lortab to take the tussionex. Feel better.
Avatar m tn Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.
Avatar m tn Each teaspoonful (5 mL) of TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended-Release Suspension contains hydrocodone polistirex equivalent to 10 mg of hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine polistirex equivalent to 8 mg of chlorpheniramine maleate. TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended- Release Suspension provides up to 12-hour relief per dose. Hydrocodone is a centrally-acting narcotic antitussive. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine.
Avatar n tn The diagnosis, establishment of cause and the treatment of chronic cough can be most difficult. Tussionex® (hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine maleate) is a potent cough-suppressant. There is no significant drug interaction between it and the Adalat® (nifedipine). Your concern about the use of a narcotic is appropriate. This is an addictive narcotic. It suppresses cough but does not address the specific cause of an individual's cough.
Avatar f tn Tussionex should not cause this type of a reaction. It is possible that the Lavaquin did if you felt any kind of swelling of the throat. You can call the prescribing doctor and/or the pharmacist to ask about symptoms of an allergic reaction. I would be more likely to think that it was acid reflux from the Levaquin. Many antibioitics cause reflux. Levaquin is a strong one and is known to cause problems.
Avatar n tn For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!
Avatar n tn As with all medications, you may experience side effects when you take WELLBUTRIN XL. Side effects may be more common shortly after you start treatment. The most common side effects with WELLBUTRIN XL are weight loss, loss of appetite, dry mouth, skin rash, sweating, ringing in the ears, shakiness, stomach pain, agitation, anxiety, dizziness, trouble sleeping, muscle pain, nausea, fast heartbeat, sore throat, and urinating more often.
909257 tn?1242668182 Pain medications have numerous side effects and those who do take pain meds on a regular basis do usually have some kind of depression due to the fact that they do have chronic pain but as far as the meds causing depression or bipolar no I do not believe so.
Avatar f tn I just started on Zohydro ER because the idea of not taking acetaminophen with hydrocodone was tempting. (There's a Black Box warning about the acetaminophen in Vicodin). The first day I started the Z. (about 5 days ago) I got less pain relief and much more pain than I had with 5/375 Vicodin! That's seems totally wrong but it happened. The dose of the Z is the same as I got for the number of 5/375s I took per day. Anyone else on Z. and how do you like it? Any side effects?
Avatar n tn I had many side effects. Headaches, severe heartburn accompanied with hiccups. Blisters and discoloration all over my tongue and back of my throat. By day 6 my feet and ankles were badly swollen and it was getting difficult to swallow. My doc said I was having a systemic reaction and to quit immediately. We are going to try Subutex now and I hope it works. On all the info I found, the only side effect I had that was listed was headache.
Avatar n tn After having an endoscopy and going to several gastroenterologist and ENT specialists I found that the only drug that helps is Tussionex which is a narcotic that combines Hydrocodone and Chlorpheniramine. The problem is ofcourse that no doctor will give that on a daily bases for the rest of my life. If anybody know about any other any other non addicting drugs that may be related or not to Hydro that would give the same relief?
1003776 tn?1360197582 I also was addicted to Tussionex and it is probably the highest concentration of hydrocodone you can get. Before 19990, it was even stronger with hyrocodone resins but the drug company got pressured by the DEA I guess because junkies loved it. Anyway, I don't want to educate addicts on better ways to get high just to say that it is a more serious addiction that can go beyond the usual hydro/ tylenol thing you see here. Still, I don't think methadone or sub would be a good idea.
Avatar m tn but around 2pm i start getting flu-like symptoms and they last till i fall asleep. im not sure if they are side effects from the suboxone(it is listed as common side effect) or if im not taking enough suboxone and having wd.but like i said i feel fine in the morning.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, Nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including aspirin, diclofenac and ibuprofen, are associated with an allergic adverse effects, ranging from mild rash to life-threatening allergic reactions. In such cases it becomes difficult to select appropriate pain killer. The next we usually recommend is paracetamol (you are allergic to this drug too). The reason for such allergy is cross reactivity which is seen in this class of drugs.
Avatar f tn I am hopefully going to start treatment AGAIN for tussionex withdrawal and treatment. Pray for me. Any suggestions or any other people out there like me? I am so alone.
Avatar n tn sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. One day at a time, because that's all we've got.

Avatar m tn Sooooo---get ready for some reaction here bc but i think if you are telling the truth and the whole truth about the hydrocodone use---and if you are feeling good and no big side effects---then please do not change a thing!!! Larry it could kill him at this age to go thru any kind of wd's ok. BC----i can share more with you if you like so post back and let us know you are still breathing HA! (ya know---the age and all!). Alright post back old man.
Avatar m tn Hi Augy, I am sorry that you are experiencing this side effect. Your right that it needs to be addressed. One of the side effects of Lyrica is decrease in libido. Hydrocodone lists the side effect as altered sex drive. Everyone responds differently but I take hydrocodone and have not experienced that side effect. I do not take lyrica. Unfortunately you are taking two medications that can mess with your libido. It may be the combination of the two for you.
Avatar f tn When I started treatment they warned me of the side effects, flu like symptoms, depression, headaches and all that good stuff, but the treatment wasn't too bad, they started me on an anti-depressant and medication for my headaches. But for the last yr or more I have been having the flu like symptoms, major body aches mostly in my upper torso, back problems and I have had every test imaginable done to figure out why I am in so much pain everyday. Some days are better than others.
Avatar f tn especially if they are prescribing it long term. any pharmacy when you pick up the prescription has to let you know the possible side effects. so maybe i am wrong for going with my gut feeling but i think maybe it wasnt prescribed...if thats the case you need to come clean with your doctor...i am pretty positive your baby will be in withdrawal and it will eventually come out. when i had my last son he was in the NICU next to a baby going thru withdrawal from narcotics.
