Tussionex hydrocodone dose

Common Questions and Answers about Tussionex hydrocodone dose

tussionex

286124 tn?1214938528 Tussinex varies according to RX but has a minimum dose of 2.
Avatar n tn You should ask your pharmacist. I don't know how much hydrocodone Tussionex has in it, but I wouldn't take both of them. Both medications contain hydrocodone, which you probably already know. That is a very strong narcotic and not one you want to OD on. You can take as much as 10 mg of hydrocodone at a time. That could leave yoy feeling quite out of it though if it is too much for your system. I would probably wait 6 hours from the lortab to take the tussionex. Feel better.
Avatar m tn Each teaspoonful (5 mL) of TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended-Release Suspension contains hydrocodone polistirex equivalent to 10 mg of hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine polistirex equivalent to 8 mg of chlorpheniramine maleate. TUSSIONEX (hydrocodone and chlorpheniramine) Pennkinetic Extended- Release Suspension provides up to 12-hour relief per dose. Hydrocodone is a centrally-acting narcotic antitussive. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine.
Avatar n tn This cough syrup combines an anti-histamine (chlorpheniramine) with a codeine-like cough suppressant called hydrocodone. Tussionex stops coughing well, but it carries a risk of potential side effects, including drowsiness, constipation, lightheadedness, and vomiting. The hydrocodone component is also an addictive medication and should be used with caution.
Avatar f tn Your body is known to hypersensitive to quinolones to which levaquin belongs to. Tussionex contains hydrocodone which may also be responsible. But it is difficult to tell, which one is the offending drug. The spectrum of these reactions can vary widely; reactions may present as typical allergic symptoms (eg, itching, urticaria, rash, edema) after a single dose, or may manifest as breathlessness due to bronchospasm.
Avatar m tn Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.
Avatar n tn The diagnosis, establishment of cause and the treatment of chronic cough can be most difficult. Tussionex® (hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine maleate) is a potent cough-suppressant. There is no significant drug interaction between it and the Adalat® (nifedipine). Your concern about the use of a narcotic is appropriate. This is an addictive narcotic. It suppresses cough but does not address the specific cause of an individual's cough.
Avatar n tn For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!
1003776 tn?1360197582 I also was addicted to Tussionex and it is probably the highest concentration of hydrocodone you can get. Before 19990, it was even stronger with hyrocodone resins but the drug company got pressured by the DEA I guess because junkies loved it. Anyway, I don't want to educate addicts on better ways to get high just to say that it is a more serious addiction that can go beyond the usual hydro/ tylenol thing you see here. Still, I don't think methadone or sub would be a good idea.
Avatar f tn Then low dose formulations of oxycodone such as Percocet where it only contains 5mgs of oxycodone and 325mgs of tylenol is often prescribed where some doctors feel that its about as potent as a higher dose of hydrocodone like Vicoprofin, tussionex, 10mg Lortabs or Norcos. Then you have strong opiates/opioid. Some are alot stronger than the other one, but are all only prescribed for severe pain and are a lot harder to obtain.
Avatar n tn After having an endoscopy and going to several gastroenterologist and ENT specialists I found that the only drug that helps is Tussionex which is a narcotic that combines Hydrocodone and Chlorpheniramine. The problem is ofcourse that no doctor will give that on a daily bases for the rest of my life. If anybody know about any other any other non addicting drugs that may be related or not to Hydro that would give the same relief?
Avatar f tn I am hopefully going to start treatment AGAIN for tussionex withdrawal and treatment. Pray for me. Any suggestions or any other people out there like me? I am so alone.
Avatar n tn sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. One day at a time, because that's all we've got.
Avatar n tn and i am very aware that it has become a addiction considering it started with lke 4 teaspoons a day of tussionex and ive been taking klodipin fo over 6 years will this effect my withhdrawl from the hycodan and tussionex and the hydrocodone pills is promethazine affective i have bunch of 25 mg pill he never game me the liquid prometh with codiene is that what i should ask for what is a good way to go about this
Avatar n tn I have a bottle of Tussionex since the last time i was pretty sick. It was filled may 15 2008 and Im not sure what the expiration date is on it. would it be fine to take?
Avatar f tn A lot of factors would determine if someone is charged, and how severely they are charged, including which medication was involved (for example, a schedule 2 narcotic, like Percocet/oxycodone would be treated more seriously than a schedule 3 narcotic like hydrocodone/vicodin), how many scripts were involved and how many pills were Rx'ed (difference between being charged with distribution or not), whether insurance was used or not to pay for the subsequent scripts, if you have any criminal
Avatar f tn Last night and today, I have relapsed yet again on Tussionex. For the past two weeks, I have felt nothing but excruciating pain in my heart from so many losses. My divorce, my ex boyfriend and my recent ex boyfriend. Then, I used last night. I took a tablespoon of the tussionex and I felt numb. I felt happy. I felt like I didn't want to kill myself. So I took two teaspoons today. The pain is still nagging at the back of my head.
Avatar n tn It’s better than nothing. I don’t really know how damaging taking such a low dose every day of the hydrocodone is. I do know it sucks. I have real pain in my back and knee. I cannot eat Tylenol or Advil all day because it’s just as bad for my organs. I’m really at an impass as to what to do. Hate the pain, hate the pain killers. Any advice? I’ve taken the hydrocodone for years and never felt the need to take more than 1 (occasionally 2) a day due to how bad they made me feel in the past.
Avatar m tn Once I had my pain easing my Doc switched me to the lower dose 7.5 twice a day. That dose worked fine. Then he switched me to a 5.5 dose but I don't react well to Aceto so went back to the 7.5 in the am and half a pill in the pm. To check its relationship to depression I stopped for a couple of weeks and had no wd symptoms but the lack of energy and anxiety returned slowly. my doc says the dose of hydro is mild and really cant hurt me...probably better than a strong anti depressant.
Avatar f tn My addiction started around 1 1/2 to 2 years ago when I had a chronic cough and was given Tussionex - wow how I loved that stuff. It totally stopped my coughing and made you feel great. I took that stuff for heck months...until I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back - well as luck would have it I was prescribed Vicodin with has the same crap in it as the cough medicine Tussionex had. Well long story short I have finally come to my senses and gave it all up. I can do it...
Avatar f tn Hydrocodone (dihydrocodeinone) (Vicodin®, Lortab®, Tussionex®) This action renders all products containing hydrocodone, including but not limited to hydrocodone in combination with acetaminophen or ibuprofen, Schedule II. Schedule III Deletions: Hydrocodone (dihydrocodeinone) (Vicodin®, Lortab®, Tussionex®) This action renders all products containing hydrocodone, including but not limited to hydrocodone in combination with acetaminophen or ibuprofen, Schedule II.
Avatar n tn Well, i got caught at school with hydrocodone. I guess its what i really needed to realize what i was doing. Im going to classes now, and everything seems to be looking up. I had to quit, cold. If i continued at the high dose i was, i myself and my doctors agree i wouldn't be here today. Thank you everyone for supporting me. It is possible.
Avatar f tn Yeah, my syepdad is a physician as well and doesn't understand why he wont switch me to a lower dose of acetaminophen either. If I were prescribed a higher dose of the hydrocodone, I'd just cut it down to the 5mg dose anyway. I cut my current 5/500s. I've talked to my doctor about switching to a lower dose of acetaminophen or something without it (I like the idea of the ibuprofen, as I do often experience different forms of inflammation) And each time, he has refused. Its odd to me.
Avatar f tn Which drug are you talking about? Hydrocodone (Vicodin, norco, lortab, etc). Typically those come in a dose of 5/7.5/10 mg hydrocodone and 325/500mg acetaminophen. There are other drugs prescribed for pain but hydrocodone is commen. Also you didn't say how long you've been taking them? That will make a difference in your recovery. Some more details can be helpful for forum members to help you out. Welcome!
Avatar n tn There is no such dose as 1000 mg of Norco. Hydrocodone is the active ingredient in Norco. Hydrocodone metabolizes into hydromorphone not morphine. If the test was taken two weeks after the dose it would not show up on the test at all though unless you were using a large dosage.
Avatar f tn I take 20 - 30 10/325mg hydrocodone pills a day. I need to stop but don't know HOW. Tapering is very difficult and I get very sick when I stop cold turkey. Any advice??
Avatar f tn My Acetaminophen in the Hydrocodone that I take is at 325mg per tablet and my Physician is comfortable with that dose. Again, it's not the milligrams of the Hydrocodone that is of concern, it's the milligrams of the Acetaminophen (Tylenol). I am sorry to hear that you will have pain for years with the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. The good news is that it can be controlled and that research is on-going for treatments and cures.
