I recently had a bad reaction to Tussionex Suspension and had to go to the ER. I agree with the doctor that I had a reaction to the Tussionex, but I'm wondering why it affected me so long after I initially took it (I didn't have any symptoms for the first 7-8 hours). I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I thought a pharmacist would be the best one to answer my question. How do extended release medications work?

Tussionex stops coughing well, but it carries a risk of potential side effects, including drowsiness, constipation, lightheadedness, and vomiting. The hydrocodone component is also an addictive medication and should be used with caution.

I am hopefully going to start treatment AGAIN for tussionex withdrawal and treatment. Pray for me. Any suggestions or any other people out there like me? I am so alone.

sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. 5 mg tid may increase, max 10mg/day; ext rel tabs (Xanax XR) give daily in am 0.5-1mg initially, maintenance 1-10mg daily. The onset for both Xanax and Xanax XR is 30 minutes, peak 1-2 hour, duration 4-6 hours and therapeutic response time for both is 2-3 days. For mild to moderate anxiety, 6mg is a very hefty dose. Xanax is not recommend for daily use beyond 4 months and must be tapered slowly.

Tussionex should not cause this type of a reaction. It is possible that the Lavaquin did if you felt any kind of swelling of the throat. You can call the prescribing doctor and/or the pharmacist to ask about symptoms of an allergic reaction. I would be more likely to think that it was acid reflux from the Levaquin. Many antibioitics cause reflux. Levaquin is a strong one and is known to cause problems.

Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.

I have a bottle of Tussionex since the last time i was pretty sick. It was filled may 15 2008 and Im not sure what the expiration date is on it. would it be fine to take?

Had all the allergy shots available on the planet (allergies to dust/dust mites) and today, I read about Tussionex. I control my blood pressure very well with Adalat once a day. I'll be seeing my GP on April 8. I pray that Tussionex (taken only 8 hours or 12 hours prior to my show/s as opposed to taking the narcotic regularly - that's scary) would be permissible for me even when taking Adalat.

My face is feeling cold, though it is not cold to the touch, and my feet, are horrible...... do you think this is a rel-lapse, I was thinking sugar was off, and I ate some ju jubes, and had an apple and cheerries, though it still is is there.... odd huh??

Last night and today, I have relapsed yet again on Tussionex. For the past two weeks, I have felt nothing but excruciating pain in my heart from so many losses. My divorce, my ex boyfriend and my recent ex boyfriend. Then, I used last night. I took a tablespoon of the tussionex and I felt numb. I felt happy. I felt like I didn't want to kill myself. So I took two teaspoons today. The pain is still nagging at the back of my head.

Hi there. I never thought in a million years I would be here, I mean at the point I am at and searching for help in this area, thats for sure. But drug addiction apparantly has no boundaries, rich or poor, young or old-it can happen to anyone. But for me, i feel especially guilty because I am a mother to 5 great children who dont deserve the bad mood and the way I am while I am trying to come off this RX addiction.

During our rel, he had told me he did not talk to his ex unless for emergencies. Once all this happened, I asked him to not talk to his ex at all like he said he would do earlier in the rel which he said he couldn't do for me anymore. A few days later, he basically ended the rel saying he needed space but when I questioned him further he said he was too busy to keep up our rel, he didn't think it would work out, then finally stated he's gonna go back to his ex.

Then one day a friend of mine that waz using it told me that he can't ejaculate when he's gotten high off of it. That one comment changed my whole outlook. This could end my p.e. suffering? To Nee08 Thank you for the reply, is nice to know that someone else out there was having the same problem as me. I also stopped taking the medication for bone health too. You may be interested in reading an article about it written by an ob-gyn on this website, I forgot her name, but you can get it here. Very very interesting, and I'm sorry that I started taking it in the first place without questioning its side effects.

My addiction started around 1 1/2 to 2 years ago when I had a chronic cough and was given Tussionex - wow how I loved that stuff. It totally stopped my coughing and made you feel great. I took that stuff for heck months...until I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back - well as luck would have it I was prescribed Vicodin with has the same crap in it as the cough medicine Tussionex had. Well long story short I have finally come to my senses and gave it all up. I can do it...

Doctors dont know what is the rel cause , all they say is stress related , Iam going crazy over this I cant enjoy my life this makes me lonely , depressed nd sometime i feel may be I will be diagonised with horrible disease in near future ,.. please share your personal experience how to deal with it if any unfortunate one is suffering through this .....

For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!

im am addicted to this and hycodan at the same timw for about 3 years i take about a 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of tussionex a day i have drank 3 and 4 ounces in a day many times with ease thought and put any where from 2 tsp to a whole ounce in sprit and i never dont have a cup i also take klodipin i take 2 to 4 mgs a day and take at least 100mg of lortab about ten 10mgs a day but sometimes it does reach up to 20 tens a day plus the cough syrups how bad is my withdrawl for the codiene going to be i

I will do that it seems the higher dose has created this and I'm not on anything else.
