Common Questions and Answers about Tussionex cough syrup dosage

tussionex

Avatar m tn Does anyone know anything about this cough syrup.?it is supposedly time released and I don't how that works. What is the deal with this stuff everyone says it's very dangerous but no one says why.
Avatar n tn For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!
Avatar n tn My Pediatrician and our local pharmacist recommend no cough syrup before the age of 6. The reason is that in a small amount of cases it has caused swelling of the brain. If you look at the label on cough syrup for children, even those typically recommend for age 6 and up (at least the brands I have seen.) When my 2 1/2 year old has a cold with a cough I give him milk slightly warmed with honey in it. I have also given him a teaspoon of honey on it's own. It works extremely well.
Avatar n tn kolodin is the only one that will stay its just this is what works its just expensive and recently has got more annoying to get the quatities of syrupp but it hasnt gotten to where i have nothing its just well i know its not good for me
Avatar n tn sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. One day at a time, because that's all we've got.
Avatar n tn The diagnosis, establishment of cause and the treatment of chronic cough can be most difficult. Tussionex® (hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine maleate) is a potent cough-suppressant. There is no significant drug interaction between it and the Adalat® (nifedipine). Your concern about the use of a narcotic is appropriate. This is an addictive narcotic. It suppresses cough but does not address the specific cause of an individual's cough.
1003776 tn?1360197582 well the thing with tussionex is that people do think it's just a 'cough med' and don't realize what's actually in it. at least, the vast majority of people don't realize what's in it. life would be so much better for a lot of people if doctors would just warn patients on the addictive potential of certain drugs before they prescribe it. i mean if you're prescribed percocet, you probably know it's addicting. but if you're prescribed cough syrup...
Avatar m tn I think I will also try the Mucinex to see if that helps. I do get some relief from taking Tussionex cough syrup. Kind of strange but opiates tend to thin the mucus production and it seems to numb my throat where I don't feel the PND or whatever it might be.
Avatar f tn I'm a recovering alcoholic and i was recently prescribed cheratussin cough syrup for a bad cold i have. my doctor didnt mention anything about the alcohol content and shes aware of my battles with alcohol. i began taking the cough syrup without researching it and now a friend of mine is saying that it contains a large amount of alcohol. i tryed to contact my doctor only to find that shes gone for the week and i have searched the internet and found no answers.
286124 tn?1214938528 wow!!! now thats a word i havent heard of in years, tussionex... what do you mean "back you up?
Avatar n tn Over the counter meds do nothing. My doctor gave me cough syrup (Tussionex) that seems to have losened everything up. I'm also on Benzonatate. It all seems to be helping, but now my nose has a constant feeling of needing to sneeze. I should not have driven myself to the doctor. It was that bad. My head was pounding, I was getting dizzy, and I felt like I was going to pass out at any minute. I can only wonder if this is a severe allergy because it only happens in the winter.
Avatar f tn The rx was Tussionex, a hydrocodone based cough syrup. I got the rx filled 4 times between 4 doctors. I did this over a course of 1 month (started in January and got caught yesterday) I had a total of 6 rx (2 I tried to get filled in a matter of one week) the reason I tried to do 2 in one week is bc my dr wrote me a script on Tuesday (this dr had already written me a script two weeks prior). I went to the pharmacy to try to get it filled.
Avatar n tn ve been given every cough suppressant from tussionex to robotussin with codine, to no avail. The cough only stops for a few hours once i'm so exhausted that i fall asleep for a few hours. I've had a CT (for elevated DDimer) and a chest xray within the past week, both clean. I'm now to the point where my normal breaths wheeze on the way in and out, and even if i try to breath through my nose, i still make wheezing. I'm clear so far as pertussis.
Avatar m tn I know it's cough syrup. Or, more precisely, it's hydrocodone that is used for, among other things, cough suppression, as well as pain management. That is why he told me to use it for sleep - it suppresses any pain and actually works well. I'm not sure why it comes as a syrup - maybe people with a cough want cough "syrup", not pills? As for Doctors prescribing it for anything else, it's called off label use, and unfortunately Doctors do that all the time.
Avatar f tn My addiction started around 1 1/2 to 2 years ago when I had a chronic cough and was given Tussionex - wow how I loved that stuff. It totally stopped my coughing and made you feel great. I took that stuff for heck months...until I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back - well as luck would have it I was prescribed Vicodin with has the same crap in it as the cough medicine Tussionex had. Well long story short I have finally come to my senses and gave it all up. I can do it...
Avatar n tn I was going to tell you that you're in the wrong place to ask about what medicine made you high..but, if you want to get high off of cough syrup..then you're in the right place. Keep reading about what that stuff will do to you.
653169 tn?1303446369 My good friend has a son that keeps buying cough syrup and drinking it like water. He tells his mom, (my friend) that he has a cold, but she says he doesn't seem sick and wonders if he is drinking the stuff to get a high. Her son is 16 yrs. old. She asked my advice, but I don't know much about it, so I told her I would do some research.
Avatar f tn What kind of cough syrup? The only thing to do to help him is to confront him and tell him your worried and that he needs to get help.
1131217 tn?1260291231 Codeine is a cough suppressant and it works well in cough syrup but not for us addicts. I agree with pharma9. Get some cough syrup with dextromethorphan and guaifenesin and take as directed. Get the Walgreens/CVS brand because it's cheaper and works just as well :) Good for you for not taking that syrup and for declining pain meds. You're being extra vigillant which we HAVE to be. Oh and I've taken percogesic and it's a decent otc pain reliever.
Avatar m tn I have been addicted to codeine phosphate cough syrup from last seven years and consuming three or four bottles daily(each 100 ml). I want to get rid of this, can anyone help me ? My age is 31.
1465162 tn?1295374862 i know for myself) that clomid actually lessens the amount of mucus you have, they say that if you take something like Robitusson (cough/cold syrup) as it increases mucus, which thins it and makes it easier for the sperm to swim upstream.
Avatar n tn If you prove not to have asthma, aren’t smoking and didn’t have whooping cough, you should contact your doctor and request a prescription for a strong cough suppressant You could try an over-the-counter cough suppressant with “DM” and if that doesn’t provide relief of the cough, then call or visit your doctor to make sure that nothing more serious is causing your cough (you may need a chest X-ray to do that) and get a stronger cough preparation such as Tussionex.
Avatar m tn Also, i take some antiseptic and anti-inflammatory medication like bradoral 0.5 mg (domiphen bromide ). Also, I take a syrup for common cold and influenza (dosage teaspoonful 5ml which contains 160mg paracetamol, 1mg chlorpheniramine maleate, 15mg pseudoephedrine HCI, and 4.5mg dextromethorphan HBr).
7041957 tn?1387424525 And i believe most of your country the cough syrup come in much higher dosage like for mine 90ml it contain Codeine Phosphate 9 mg Ephedrine Hydrochloride 6 mg that all... it really mild to me i think... i saw some post saying like some 90ml contain much higher codeine in different country...
