Tussionex cough syrup

Common Questions and Answers about Tussionex cough syrup

tussionex

Avatar m tn Does anyone know anything about this cough syrup.?it is supposedly time released and I don't how that works. What is the deal with this stuff everyone says it's very dangerous but no one says why.
Avatar n tn For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!
Avatar n tn kolodin is the only one that will stay its just this is what works its just expensive and recently has got more annoying to get the quatities of syrupp but it hasnt gotten to where i have nothing its just well i know its not good for me
Avatar n tn sober 20+ years in 12 step program. Take Tussionex for chronic cough, 1 tsp. per day. I don't abuse it by taking more. But, if I don't take it every day I start to feel like I am getting the flu. Is that withdrawal, just the level in my blood is dropping off after 24 hours? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you have experience. Thanks and bless you all. One day at a time, because that's all we've got.
Avatar n tn The diagnosis, establishment of cause and the treatment of chronic cough can be most difficult. Tussionex® (hydrocodone bitartrate and chlorpheniramine maleate) is a potent cough-suppressant. There is no significant drug interaction between it and the Adalat® (nifedipine). Your concern about the use of a narcotic is appropriate. This is an addictive narcotic. It suppresses cough but does not address the specific cause of an individual's cough.
Avatar m tn I think I will also try the Mucinex to see if that helps. I do get some relief from taking Tussionex cough syrup. Kind of strange but opiates tend to thin the mucus production and it seems to numb my throat where I don't feel the PND or whatever it might be.
Avatar n tn Over the counter meds do nothing. My doctor gave me cough syrup (Tussionex) that seems to have losened everything up. I'm also on Benzonatate. It all seems to be helping, but now my nose has a constant feeling of needing to sneeze. I should not have driven myself to the doctor. It was that bad. My head was pounding, I was getting dizzy, and I felt like I was going to pass out at any minute. I can only wonder if this is a severe allergy because it only happens in the winter.
Avatar f tn The rx was Tussionex, a hydrocodone based cough syrup. I got the rx filled 4 times between 4 doctors. I did this over a course of 1 month (started in January and got caught yesterday) I had a total of 6 rx (2 I tried to get filled in a matter of one week) the reason I tried to do 2 in one week is bc my dr wrote me a script on Tuesday (this dr had already written me a script two weeks prior). I went to the pharmacy to try to get it filled.
Avatar n tn ve been given every cough suppressant from tussionex to robotussin with codine, to no avail. The cough only stops for a few hours once i'm so exhausted that i fall asleep for a few hours. I've had a CT (for elevated DDimer) and a chest xray within the past week, both clean. I'm now to the point where my normal breaths wheeze on the way in and out, and even if i try to breath through my nose, i still make wheezing. I'm clear so far as pertussis.
1003776 tn?1360197582 well the thing with tussionex is that people do think it's just a 'cough med' and don't realize what's actually in it. at least, the vast majority of people don't realize what's in it. life would be so much better for a lot of people if doctors would just warn patients on the addictive potential of certain drugs before they prescribe it. i mean if you're prescribed percocet, you probably know it's addicting. but if you're prescribed cough syrup...
Avatar f tn My addiction started around 1 1/2 to 2 years ago when I had a chronic cough and was given Tussionex - wow how I loved that stuff. It totally stopped my coughing and made you feel great. I took that stuff for heck months...until I was diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back - well as luck would have it I was prescribed Vicodin with has the same crap in it as the cough medicine Tussionex had. Well long story short I have finally come to my senses and gave it all up. I can do it...
Avatar n tn I was going to tell you that you're in the wrong place to ask about what medicine made you high..but, if you want to get high off of cough syrup..then you're in the right place. Keep reading about what that stuff will do to you.
653169 tn?1303446369 My good friend has a son that keeps buying cough syrup and drinking it like water. He tells his mom, (my friend) that he has a cold, but she says he doesn't seem sick and wonders if he is drinking the stuff to get a high. Her son is 16 yrs. old. She asked my advice, but I don't know much about it, so I told her I would do some research.
Avatar f tn What kind of cough syrup? The only thing to do to help him is to confront him and tell him your worried and that he needs to get help.
Avatar n tn If you prove not to have asthma, aren’t smoking and didn’t have whooping cough, you should contact your doctor and request a prescription for a strong cough suppressant You could try an over-the-counter cough suppressant with “DM” and if that doesn’t provide relief of the cough, then call or visit your doctor to make sure that nothing more serious is causing your cough (you may need a chest X-ray to do that) and get a stronger cough preparation such as Tussionex.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your comments, Dr. It was only that one incident (thank goodness) - personally, I do think it was the Tussionex. I am much better - except for the residual cough. It's pretty much non-productive but hanging on. Others who have had this cold say the same thing. I've been taking honey and drinking lots of warm/hot liquids.
Avatar m tn As with any drug, there are withdrawal symptoms the addict experiences upon cessation of cough syrup use. Cough syrup, or DXM, affects the body in many ways. Becoming addicted to the medication results in a loss of control by the individual addicted to the medication. Things that once used to interest the addict become erroneous. Interest in sports, academics, and extracurricular activities fades.
Avatar n tn It's all depends on what kind of cough medicine. Narcotic cough medicine or the DM type? I was hooked on narcotic cough medicine for years and got my addiction stated on it before there were even hydro pills. I had to drink some rough stuff like turpenhydrate and codeine and some other nasty stuff before I found the cleaner stuff but am not going to get into all that. There can be some problems from the other ingredients in cough medicine.
Avatar f tn I'm a recovering alcoholic and i was recently prescribed cheratussin cough syrup for a bad cold i have. my doctor didnt mention anything about the alcohol content and shes aware of my battles with alcohol. i began taking the cough syrup without researching it and now a friend of mine is saying that it contains a large amount of alcohol. i tryed to contact my doctor only to find that shes gone for the week and i have searched the internet and found no answers.
Avatar m tn I addicted to Codiene based cough syrup for the past 10 years. In this period, I had tried many times to quit the syrup. Once I go cold turkey, it was success for one year. Last month, my mother was past and I feel very very sad of it. I start to take the cough syrup. I cannot control my depression if I go cold turkey now. But I really want to change my life and do something for my mother. I want to make a plan to taper. In daily, I go out and visit the pharmacy.
