In my situation had it not been for seeking Truvada I would not have discovered my hep b infection due to all the test that are required prior to a prescription being written. Once I was tested & discovered my hep b infection I wanted a second opinion if I should take Truvada. That's why I visited a Hepatologist the same week affiliated with another medical center.
What happens in some of the Hep B positive individuals is that after stopping HIV PEP, there comes to Hep B flare (ALT/AST gets very high) but this flare usually comes and goes.
Basically the conclusion was to go with HIV PEP (if PEP was really indicated - in my case docs said it wasn't needed but I still took it due to my HIV paranoia).
I tested ALT/AST 2 weeks after stopping PEP, and again 3 months after stopping it, and it was same as it was before - no flare.

I was born with Hepatitis B and has been living with it for 25 years. After I started working, a doctor refer me to see a specialist and she suggested me taking Truvada to treat my Hep B. I have been taking it for almost a year now and it's been showing improvements. (Before I started, I have been having infections for awhile). Though, I can't find any result on how people react to Truvada.
Docs over at UCLA Aids Center that treat hep B also.. suggest for people like us to take Truvada till something better comes. Five years ago they were right on the spot with Baraclude saying it is weak drug and resistance issue will be a problem with HBV.. They were suggesting me to take Tenofovir. but I didn't and went with the Baraclude that was recommended by UCSD Hepatologist that now tells me interferon is better :)
But Truvada is optimized to be less toxic.
that's the worst drugs, it makes hbv mutations that make almost all drugs useless and hbv escape mutants that infect vaccinated people too
that shi* is not an hbv drug anymore and should never be used, the same happened with adefovir
the only frist line approved drugs from 2009 are: interferon, tenofovir, entecavir and soon truvada, all other drugs makes mutants

As previously reported, in this international study of nearly 2500 men who have sex with men (plus a small number of transgender women), daily Truvada reduced the risk of HIV infection by 92% among participants with blood drug levels indicating consistent use.
Truvada is classified by the FDA as a pregnancy category B drug which means it is safe during pregnancy. During my pregnancy I used Tenofovir which is also cat B and my baby is healthy thanks god. I never stopped taking it. I don't know much about Truvada but as long as it is category B, I believe it is fine. Confirm with your dr. Goood luck.
The main problem also is i took truvada as apart of my hiv treatment so if i decided to make hepatitis B pcr quantitative test maybe it becomes undetectable because of the seven months of truvada(i knew that truvada treat hepatitis B virus)

I have just been diagnosed with hep b recently. They started me on viread. Well, my hep b viral is slowly going down but my liver enzymes is slowly going up. My Dr is really concern and constantly doing blood work on me. I'm about to get a kidney and hiv panel. I've been researching online and it says viread can increase liver enzymes and eventually people have to switch to a new med. my question : what other meds out there like viread and can viread increaSe my liver enzymes.
In the documents I have read for various routes of medication for Hep B, I have not come across any correlation between country and effectiveness -- just variations based on the genotype of Hep B. Having said that, I have seen differences in tolerance profiles -- blacks have different thresholds for WBC counts when considering dosage change for peginterferon.

I am 54 and have had Chronic Hep B for 20+ years. Don't listen to stef2011 who called this post useless. It isn't! It seems to me you are looking for tips and encouragement and "proof" that it is possible to live a long, healthy, full life with this disease. IT IS!! To me, You have to do a few things "right".
1. Learn what you can about Hep B and stay on top of the advances and breakthroughs.
AST=44 (still a bit elevated), ALT=53, ALK=139. My hep B surf antibody was negative, hep B surf antigen was positive, my hep B e antibody was negative and my hep B e antigen was positive. I know that the antibody should be positive and the antigen should be negative so I wasn't happy with the results. However, my surf antibody was "less than 2" when I had it done in August. It's now at a 4.
has anyone been prescribed Truvada? If so I would like to know how you are doing with it? and if it is helping your hepatitis b? I have stage 4 kidney disease. My hepitologist just prescribed this med. My labs were not good. He hopes to get the virus under control so I can possibly get a kidney transplant. This would be a kidney from a cadaver donator, someone who had hepatitis b. So I am about to begin my journey.
