trileptal weight loss

He said that it does not lead to weight gain, but when I checked online, some sites say it leads to weight gain and others to weight loss. Could you tell me what it is actually? Is it weight loss or weight gain?

I haven't yet lost the weight I gained from Trileptal. In fact, my weight hasn't much changed at all in the weeks since I've stopped taking it. I would certainly like to loose the weight I gained while taking it though. I sure hope to very soon. It seems that many anti-epileptics cause weight gain, and other side effects.

Ive been on my BC for over two years so no weight gain from it. I have started celexa and trileptal for depression, but the side effects re aupposed to be weight loss. I took an at home test and it was negative but its a bit early to take the test.

Has anyone had any success with losing weight while on these antidepressants? Has anyone tried Metformin for weight loss?

Wellbutrin (buproprion) actually has some promise as being useful as a weight loss tool according to some studies. But generally it's well known for comparatively not causing as much weight gain as other antidepressants.

Hi, I have suffered with migraines for many years & was placed on prophylactic meds-Cymbalta & Propranolol. About 3 months ago I developed Trigeminal Neuritis on my R side. I have to say it was the most painful affliction I ever experienced, even worse than the 2 spinal fusions I underwent! I was placed on Trileptal & am up to 600mg 2x/day, as well as continuing with Cymbalta & Propranolol.

Hi! I take abilify and trileptal and have no gained weight from those two. Hope this helps! Also, Zyprexa for me was super bad on the weight thing. I gained 20 lbs! Hope this helps.

With all of the anti-seizure meds (gabapentin, Tegretol, Trileptal, etc) you have to increase the dose slowly according to your doctor's instructions to get pain relief. That said, I did not do well on Tegretol -- it made me a zombie and did not help my pain. But everyone is different. I ended up on Trileptal -- it has less side effects than Tegretol. I took 3 doses of 600 mg per day to stop my pain.

now the doc wants to put me back on low dose lithium along with a med to protect my kidneys and monitor them closely. i am curently on trileptal and seroquel but still have anxiety and hypomania. i don;t know what to do. has anyone had similar experiences with ect and/or with low dose lithium?

I am finishing my week of no medication for my TN after tapering off the Trileptal, and my neuro-opthalmalogist wants to start me on Lyrica. I am very concerned about gaining weight on it (if my insurance company even approves it.) I have been very carefully following WW and have lost 35 pounds since August. The Lyrica site says something like 10-16% of people do gain, so I wonder if board members have been experiencing this.

Due to the severe burning sensation I have in my hands from my current MS flare up, my neuro has put me on Trileptal. I have read great things about this med in regards to TN but not much about peripheral nerves. Anyone have any experience with this med for burning sensation NOT on the face? Hope you all are well!!

The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you.

After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!

I felt pretty good but gained so much weight , which caused me to have prediabetes .I was changed to Lamictal which caused huge allergic reactions ! I just started Trileptal 300 mg twice a day. It's causing anxiety , but I also take Ativan . I seem to have more energy . Has anyone gained weight on this , and how does it work on the depression side of Bipolar 2 ? I'm so scared of medicine , but I have to have it or I cry constantly over the slightest thing .

I am on 900mg of trileptal and had a healthy baby boy in 2013. I am still on the same meds and currently 10 weeks preggo again. Good luck.

Otherwise its extremely rare. Loss of coordination which is different can occur from Trileptal and I believe the two medications can interact. Speak to your psychiatrist about this.

I am supposed to start trileptal this morning but worried about the side effects particularly dizzines. Has anyone had these symptoms? what are the likelyhood that I would become dizzy and nauseas while taking trileptal? I will be starting out w/ 150mg twice daily for 3 days then increasing?

My neuro put me on Trileptal. It has helped, my hand has pretty much stopped. Barely noticeable. My tounge has eased up probably 50%. Better than it was. Red, I also have the loss of taste. You would think it would help me lose weight. But instead I keep eating trying to find something that tastes.

I already have a metabolic disorder and cannot gain weight. Its very, very hard for me to lose weight. Anyway, I know it can cause vision problems, can make you high at times, bad headaches, etc. I already have migraines and acctually have not had the headaches yet that almost 90% of people get along with dizziness and weakness. I had bad vision problems and was legally blind w/o contacts or glasses.

some meds will cause weight gain and others may cause weight loss--it all depends on the person and the dose.Your doctor would know more about this.

my daughter started on 1000mg of depakote along with abilify and this combination seems to keep her stable, but the weight gain has been awful, depakote was decreased to 750 but weight is still going on despite being with slimming world since oct 2008 and still gaining weight. have an appointment with her consultant on the 24th to discuss this have been looking into topomax????
