Trileptal weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal weight gain

trileptal

Avatar f tn I haven't yet lost the weight I gained from Trileptal. In fact, my weight hasn't much changed at all in the weeks since I've stopped taking it. I would certainly like to loose the weight I gained while taking it though. I sure hope to very soon. It seems that many anti-epileptics cause weight gain, and other side effects.
5032487 tn?1365824021 I use Abilify which is supposed to be weight neutral, but I gained 35 lbs when I first took it. Now I have a solution to prevent weight gain no matter what I am on. I am on a grain- free diet and I rarely get hunger pangs. If I do, it is because I am truly hungry and need to eat. I have to try to eat enough calories in a day. Give it a try.
Avatar f tn unfortunately, a lot of these meds do cause problems with weight gain. However, if you can possibly try to set yourself up on a plan (sometimes it takes forcing yourself at that beginning), to get out and walk everyday, it will help you a lot. It helps with the weight and with the mood. My son has this problem. He has bipolar schizoaffective disorder. He is on Clozaril, Effexor and Trileptal.
420308 tn?1203041262 I feel better than I ever had in my life, but the only problem I have now is excessive weight gain--about 30 lbs. I am currently 5'7 and 188 lbs. I want to get my weight down to 160 lbs. As a New Year's resolution I have been working out between 30-60 minutes 5 days a week combining cardio and weight training. I have also adjusted my diet by eating more fruits and vegetables and whole grains. I have lost about 5 lbs. in 6 weeks.
1374874 tn?1278686480 But, I am very sensitive to medicine. Tegretol will help you GAIN weight! Neurontin is just as bad and is used on too many patients for too many reasons most lately. I would try the newer one, Trileptal if given a choice. But, it is also more expensive, Try to start out on the lowest dosage and step it up to find the right dosage.
359574 tn?1328360424 I am finishing my week of no medication for my TN after tapering off the Trileptal, and my neuro-opthalmalogist wants to start me on Lyrica. I am very concerned about gaining weight on it (if my insurance company even approves it.) I have been very carefully following WW and have lost 35 pounds since August. The Lyrica site says something like 10-16% of people do gain, so I wonder if board members have been experiencing this.
Avatar f tn Ive been on my BC for over two years so no weight gain from it. I have started celexa and trileptal for depression, but the side effects re aupposed to be weight loss. I took an at home test and it was negative but its a bit early to take the test.

Avatar f tn t want to give up the lyrica but I just wrote in a post that I would rather deal with the pain than gain weight. But on another note, gabapentin has the same weight gain side affect.
Avatar f tn I already have a metabolic disorder and cannot gain weight. Its very, very hard for me to lose weight. Anyway, I know it can cause vision problems, can make you high at times, bad headaches, etc. I already have migraines and acctually have not had the headaches yet that almost 90% of people get along with dizziness and weakness. I had bad vision problems and was legally blind w/o contacts or glasses.
Avatar f tn some meds will cause weight gain and others may cause weight loss--it all depends on the person and the dose.Your doctor would know more about this.
Avatar n tn We were just prescribed this for my son who is 8. He spent the last 3 years fighting outbursts which included throwing things, hitting others, screaming, crying, and not being able to cope with things he didnt like the answer to. He started Trileptal in August and we saw huge improvement. but 2 months ago the doc added Guanfacine and Clonidine to help. then things became bad again. And guanfacine is not easy to come off of. We lately we have had outburts like previous to trileptal.
Avatar f tn Does anybody know of any medication out there for bipolar that doesn't cause weight gain? I've gained 30 pounds the past 6 months and don't need to gain, but lose so please help.
397118 tn?1219762250 Hi everyone, I know I have ask you guys about the sub, Trileptal and Lexapro making you gain weight so I ask my psyc. about it and he looked in his little book and said that it is not reported to really increase appetite but there are studies that say that lexapro does but he also said but the pill dosen't weigh 10 pounds so I think you will be ok.

Avatar f tn Hello dear, I took Lamictal for 5 years & never experienced any weight gain issues from the medicine itself. If my weight ever did fluctuate during that period it was because I was depressed & eating a lot with no exercise. But then every time I would fix my eating habits and worked out, my weight was back to normal (skinny).
Avatar f tn Weight was the first on my list of side effects. There was no way I was going to willing gain weight. If it said weight gain, it was out. It may have made my choices slim but that was important to me. Then, you have your list, you are informed and you can work with your dr according to your list. With your list at hand, your dr can tell you which one to match up with Lamictal. Like I said before, everyone's chemistry is different. It is impossible to go by what other people take.
Avatar f tn I am a 53 yr old caucasion female. I have been suffering with some type of neuropathy for about 13 yrs. I've had 2 neurologists (because of a move). The first one diagnosed me with CIDP. but my new dr. does not agree because I don't seem to have any signs of weakness in my extremities. My symptoms are feelings similar to what you'd feel when someone scratches their nails down a chalkboard. They started in my left foot and shot up that leg.
Avatar m tn now the doc wants to put me back on low dose lithium along with a med to protect my kidneys and monitor them closely. i am curently on trileptal and seroquel but still have anxiety and hypomania. i don;t know what to do. has anyone had similar experiences with ect and/or with low dose lithium?
1054665 tn?1305508455 Lithium is known to be associated with tremors and passing of large amounts of urine(Diabetes insipidus) so if the med is not suiting you u could ask for a change of med to Lamictal or trileptal both of which are anticonvulsants with excellent mood stabilizing qualities.
Avatar f tn For instance, if you have psychosis with your episodes, and atypical antipsychotic might be a good place to start, but most of them can cause weight gain. Geodon is the exception, being weight neutral (and Abilify is almost as good apparently from the weight standpoint). If you're BP II, especially if you're mostly depressive, Lamictal is a great place to start, and is weight neutral.
5485096 tn?1375574235 If Gabepentin does not work there is Trileptal. I like Trileptal the best. Many times MS patients need anti spasmatics and drugs for nerve pain.
