trileptal neutropenia

I had a blood test yesterday and results show a WBC of 2.9 and also low neutrophils of .60 (meaning I have moderate neutropenia). All other values are within range. I had a blood test done a year ago and everything was good then (WBC of 5.6). I don't have a fever or additional symptoms and don't think I have a virus. I have as few questions: 1. Could this be a normal swing in my WBC, is it fairly common for healthy people to drop low and bounce back up? 2.

Due to the severe burning sensation I have in my hands from my current MS flare up, my neuro has put me on Trileptal. I have read great things about this med in regards to TN but not much about peripheral nerves. Anyone have any experience with this med for burning sensation NOT on the face? Hope you all are well!!

The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you.

I heard that neutropenia is not associated with increased risk of infection during Hep C treatment. Has anybody got any more info on this? My treatment coordinator said they can add neupogen, but that there were study results that indicated that low WBC and neutrophils that occurred during tx did not cause infection. If that's true, why prescribe the neupogen? Thanks for your input!

After 3 months, I am down to 900 mg of Trileptal, 2 mg Xanax, and 150 mg daily, down from 1800 mg daily of TRileptal originally, and a VERY slow introduction of Lamictal into my system. Of course this happens on the weekend, otherwise I would have called the pdoc by now-- anyway, let me know. Help is appreciated!

Are you currently on any medication like imatinib? The neutropenia can be due to your current medication. You can ask your hematologist for G-CSF injection if you have persistent neutropenia. Patients with CML are immunocompromised and can easily acquire infections. Neutropenia also puts a patient in an immunocompromised state. For now, it is very important to prevent acquiring any infection. You should avoid crowded places and persons with ongoing infection. Good luck.

I am supposed to start trileptal this morning but worried about the side effects particularly dizzines. Has anyone had these symptoms? what are the likelyhood that I would become dizzy and nauseas while taking trileptal? I will be starting out w/ 150mg twice daily for 3 days then increasing?

When I read about this a while back, the summary I remember is that while interferon alone can reduce your neutrophil count, it is typically not responsible for neutropenia. The effect of ribavirin is more prone to cause neutropenia but taking them together increases the risk significantly. I am not sure how boceprevir would enter into this equation since I'm ignorant about the drug.

Hello all, I'm not sure if everyone is familiar with my story but I have neutropenia and graves disease. I need to get my wisdom tooth extracted because I have avoided it long enough. When I first tried to get my wisdom pulled the dental surgeon realized that my wisdom tooth was in my nerve and that i would suffer damage if pulled. I was told to prolong it as much as I could however, I get horrible migraines (I've suffered from migraines since 13) and I need my tooth taken out.

My wife has been taking Tegretol 200mg X 3 tines a day, this has caused her to be disorientated and nauseous & still in pain, she is trying Trileptal 300mg X 3, whilst cutting out the Tegretol. My question is how much Trileptal can she take ??????

I've been taking these two for 2 months. 1800 mg trileptal 10 mg abilify. i'm doing a lot better (rages getting under control, manic moods lowered) but i'm still so depressed. my irritability is still off the charts. do you think adding another med will be the most likely next step or will my doc just keep raising my dosages?

I was on Trileptal for a while. After that my psychiatrist transferred me to Lamictal. It took some time to have the withdrawal symptoms to pass (and the efficacy of the other medication to start) but it settled after some time. Generally things begin to improve within a few weeks. As long as you followed your psychiatrist's titration schedule it should be fine. Keep your psychiatrist updated on how you are doing and they will know how to follow up.

I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.

I'm wondering if anyone else has numb fingertips as a side effect from Trileptal...I am currently taking 600 mg. I'm also being worked up for MS, so I don't know if this is from the drug I take for TN or from some other cause?? Thanks.

t have epilepsy, but my questions is what happens to you possible long term effects from taking it;s medication. I had a Shoppers Drug Mart give me Trileptal 300mg instead of my medication. My memory had changed some what and don't know if it's from it or not. No one has an aswer to why I am still living after taking those meds? For 5 days I had to put up with barely keeping my eyes open and my husband couldn't wake me for two hours?

To take this test my doctor weened me off Trileptal over a three week period. After off the drug for a couple weeks my symptoms returned - full force. Now after two weeks back on, I'm feeling much better. Any ideas?

Normal banded neutrophil count is 1,500 cells per microliter. A count between 500-1000, is a grade 3 risk of neutropenia, or low neutrophil count, with risk for infection. Actually on the first day of fever and even for a day or two, initially when there is an infection, there is slight neutropenia. Then the body fights the infection and the neutrophils rise and by day five of fever most blood pictures will show increased neutrophil count.
