Trileptal nerve pain

Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal nerve pain

trileptal

Avatar n tn Welcome.Trileptal is an anti seizure drug. It also helps with nerve pain. That nerve pain could be caused for many reasons. So if you are asking since Trileptal works do I have MS? It is not that clear cut. You can go to the top right and click on the Health Pages and look under the McDonald Criteria for diagnosis of MS. There are also other helpful posts. It is good your symptoms are being treated. It sometimes takes awhile to get a diagnosis.
Avatar f tn You are right, anti-seizure meds are often used to treat nerve pain associated with MS. I currently take Lyrica, an anti-seizure med, for nerve pain in my feet. As to your facial numbness, it is possible that IT IS MS RELATED. It's something that should be addressed. As you already have a relationship with a neurologist, I would discuss with him/her.
Avatar f tn He is not against Morphine I take it for Cancer. There are several drugs for nerve pain Lyrica, Gabenpentin, Trileptal, and few others. For muscle spasms there are muscle relaxers the main ones are Bacolphen, Flexiral, and Zananflex. Many people need a combination. Some drugs work for some people and others for others. My MS Specialist sent me to a pain clinic. It might take awhile to get the right combination and dosage. It took me two years to get on the combination that works.
Avatar f tn I did Trileptal instead. I had no issues with it. Then I went to a pain clinic where they think outside the box. They had me on so much medication before the pain clinic it was not funny with each symptom they upped dosages or added pills. I was a walking Pharmacy. I was on 4 anti seizures at once. Now I am on none. They have to keep tweaking at the pain clinic and it takes time, but I take way less medication and do not feel as gross from side effects.
5466288 tn?1410485185 There are many medications that can help for nerve pain. It just depends on which works for you. There is Lyrica, Neurotin, Tegretol, and Trileptal to name a few. There are many conditions which cause PN some Neurological some not.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been given this for nerve pain? I am just about to start this medication. I am already taking Avonex.
Avatar n tn s symptoms one treatment option is surgical. The trigeminal nerve system includes a body of nerve cells called the gasserian ganglion, and in patients with severe, refractory TN the gasserian ganglion can be ablated (literally meaning burned, intentionally damaged) to prevent transmission of impulses down the nerve. This is often successful but as with every surgical procedure there are risks and side effects, including the occurrence of facial numbness.
Avatar f tn The first thing they need to figure out is if you have nerve pain or muscle pain or both. For muscle pain it would be muscle relaxers like Baclefin or Zanaflex or something similar. For nerve pain in the states they use Gabenpentin which is a seizure medicine or Lyrica or Trileptal. Or sometimes anti depressants such as Amitryptoline. For headaches they use Topamax as a preventative. I take Immitrex for my migraines.
Avatar m tn Hello Dear Kirby12, Peripheral nerve stimulation appears to be a safe and effective approach in the treatment of craniofacial neuropathic pain. Peripheral nerve stimulation has been effectively used to treat neuropathic pain. You should consult your neurologist regarding this treatment option. Refer http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/554865 for more info.
Avatar n tn The pain was an 11 on the 0-10 scale. Since the pain has only calmed down to a 7, my neuro added trileptal with the neurontin. The trileptal is being titrated and I'm at 750 mgs per day right now. Can anyone tell me at what dose of trileptal you got some relief from the constant crawling, burning, crushing type pains? Also does the side effect of nausea and just feeling crappy all over from trileptal eventually subside. I also have MS. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Due to the severe burning sensation I have in my hands from my current MS flare up, my neuro has put me on Trileptal. I have read great things about this med in regards to TN but not much about peripheral nerves. Anyone have any experience with this med for burning sensation NOT on the face? Hope you all are well!!
645390 tn?1338555377 He told me to take the Trileptal 2 x per day and see if that helps. He said it is a pill for nerve pain and lets try increasing the dose. I am to call back either way tomorrow and let them know if it is better. I told the PA about my PCP thinking it has been shingles when this has happened in the past, but shingles never happened. I asked her what it is, she doesn't know, but said she has heard this complaint in the past by other patients. So, does it matter what the source of the pain is?
2131900 tn?1335656259 i have lost all the feeling in my right arm again and it hurts bad they(pain mgt)are going to do a fluro procedure on jan 10 the dr at pain mgt said that the scar tissue could be pressing against my nerve i am hopeful but i have a feeling its gonna hurt
Avatar f tn After only a week of being on this medication for the stabbing pain behind my right eye I feel horrible do the side effects eventually get better or should I stop taking it
2015036 tn?1332997788 My doctor is looking at both of these drugs (one at a time) to help control my TN pain levels (as well as for other forms of nerve pain.) Gabapentin was making me feel too drugged, so I stopped taking it. Low and behold, I am in pain. No shock there. (Pun intended.) The drug side effect lists are scary for both of them. If any of you have experience with either of these drugs, I need help deciding what side effects I can handle. Increased facial hair was a big one for dilantin. Yikes!!
359574 tn?1328360424 Is your pain constant or does it increase from day to day? My pain is intermittent now after 11 months of constant pain. Maybe you can ask about Zanaflex for treating your atypical TN.
Avatar m tn When she was almost done with the medicine she started having facial pain on the same side of ear infection. Has had MRI and taken meds for the neuralgia to no avail. Seeing Neurologist tomorrow. My question is why did an ear infection cause this? Could it be a vascular compression problem? That would be the easiest to fix with long term results.
306245 tn?1244384967 I can see where the 1 on my ankle came back and the 1 on my calf came back plus I have 2 new ones. The 2nd surgery was to cut the tibia nerve to help with pain. the nerve block worked. It was the first time in 15 or more years that I could jump without any pain. So we went and had the nerve cut, however it didn't work it just spread the pain out over my foot more. I have been on every pain medication known to man. they either make me vomit or very sleepy.
5485096 tn?1375574235 Alex is right re:Baclofen or Xanaflex for spasms. I've tried Gabapentin and Trileptal, too, and they're great for nerve pain. The dreaded "Hug we all Hate" is essentially a big intercostal muscle(s) spasm. I deal with it myself, and it's truly awful! Baclofen helps me, but doesn't keep all the spasms at bay. I just kind of live with it.
738075 tn?1330575844 I woke up with Trigeminal Neuralgia last Thursday morning. I knew that was what it was, because I had it once seven years ago. This time it's SO much worse! I told myself I'd "tough it out" for the weekend, even though I did put in a call to my neurologist. By Sunday, it was so bad, I was in tears! I told my DH "just take me out back and shoot me like an old horse!" I was kidding, but kinda serious, too!
233622 tn?1279334905 I felt like something was trying to crawl out of my body. Must have been nerve discomfort or something like that. As I understand it Trileptal works on the nerves. This has been a Godsend for me. I can now sit without too many spasms!!!
