Abilify is specifically FDA approved for both mood disorders and psychotic disorders. I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
Could my husband have bi polar disorder. He was prescribed Dylantin which was switched to Keppra. His neurologist recently added Trileptal to balance his levels because he was having seizures so often. His therapist also prescribed him Celexal and Elavil for depression medication due to bipolar disorder. in 2000 i was diagonosed with biopolor disorder i had my assorment of drug theropy i ended with a cocktale of trileptal, trazadone and lexapro when i found out i was pregnat in 2004. They took me off all my meds and have been med free until about 6 months ago when i went completely off the wall...They then put me on lexapro and ativan.. I went to a psychiotrist 3 weeks ago who took me off both of those meds and put me on Seroquel 150mg and trileptal 1200mg.
unfortunately, a lot of these meds do cause problems with weight gain. However, if you can possibly try to set yourself up on a plan (sometimes it takes forcing yourself at that beginning), to get out and walk everyday, it will help you a lot. Holiday blues can affect anyone, especially people with things like bipolar disorder. Depressive episodes I don't think are required for bipolar disorder 1 to be diagnosed and only mania is required but they frequently occur. I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. Trileptal is gradually replacing Tegretol which is less in use now as Trileptal is much safer but has the same effect on mood stabilization. You should ask your psychiatrist about that. s common or uncommon but its not rare. Trileptal is similar clinically but better in one way in that the blood test is not required. I found that lithium worked well but had some trouble tolerating it for other reasons that were physical but did very well on Lamictal especially on rapid cycling. Each person reacts diffferently though. Speak to your psychiatrist about what is going on and if other options might be considered.
As for mood stabilizers you can go to the links page but assuming you tried Lithium and Depakoate (which are the most used mood stabilizers) there is Trileptal, Topomax, Keppra and Neurontin. Those are more in use. Lovaza is an anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar and it works in the same manner as fish oil. That is FDA approved and has shown promising results.
t have bipolar disorder, but I do have to take prednisone from time to time. It always elevates my mood and I over talk, say inappropriate things, can't sleep, over eat and have to have someone go shopping with me as I overspend too. It is sheer misery worrying that I will say or do something I will later regret.
