Common Questions and Answers about Trileptal for neuropathic pain

trileptal

Avatar f tn He is not against Morphine I take it for Cancer. There are several drugs for nerve pain Lyrica, Gabenpentin, Trileptal, and few others. For muscle spasms there are muscle relaxers the main ones are Bacolphen, Flexiral, and Zananflex. Many people need a combination. Some drugs work for some people and others for others. My MS Specialist sent me to a pain clinic. It might take awhile to get the right combination and dosage. It took me two years to get on the combination that works.
Avatar m tn Hello Dear Kirby12, Peripheral nerve stimulation appears to be a safe and effective approach in the treatment of craniofacial neuropathic pain. Peripheral nerve stimulation has been effectively used to treat neuropathic pain. You should consult your neurologist regarding this treatment option. 1559533 tn?1308948561 I take Depakote and Trileptal for Neuropathic pain. I do not think they would make a diagnosis more difficult. They had me take them when I had a EEG and other sensory testing. They did not hinder my basic Neurological testing reflexes and such. My personal feeling is if you can get relief from symptoms before a diagnosis that is good. Why suffer more than you have to?
Avatar n tn it, a bag of frozen vegetables on the affected part does give some relief. Neuropathic pain drugs such as Neurontin, Doxepin, Amitriptyline etc also help but they can take a few days to kick in. I hope you find some relief soon.
645390 tn?1338555377 Good luck with the infusion, but call the center and let them know how much pain your in.. do you take any meds at home like Neurontin? for Neuropathic pain?
739070 tn?1338603402 After the first disorientation episode , the neuro thought it was the Trileptal I was using for neuropathic leg pain and had me wean off of it. Several days (3-4) later I was hit by intense vertigo and treated with IV steroids . This disorientation occurred agian about a month later and after the Trileptal was discontinued. Again, since I could not stand or take fluids easily...another round of steroids which helped the vertigo but did not make it disappear.
Avatar f tn I was told by my PCP and 2 neuros that the drug of choice for TN is Tegretol or Trileptal. Have they tried prescribing that yet? I used Trileptal for awhile and it worked well but I had to stop due to side effects. I think you might need to add another drug since it neuropathic pain and it seems that 2 drugs have a synergistic effect. Have you read the Health page on neuropathic pain? I hope you get some relief from the zaps...there are so annoying and painful!
5485096 tn?1375574235 I thought the aspect of spasam vs neuropathic pain is it normal to try to fix with neuropathic pain med first before spasam pain ? How do we know the difference? The pain I have I am thinking is a possibility of a flare with the intensity (I think this is a month long on going flare.. Or longer ?!?!?) I am still avoiding steroids bc of side effects.... I am just so confused with what to do sometimes. I feel like I am always batteling something lately :( ugh the annoyance!!!
233622 tn?1279334905 My neuro put me on gabapentin (neurontin), to work on my seizures, and the rib pain (which was the first neuropathic pain my gp recognized). Though it worked at first, I eventually needed too high a dose, so, my gp put me on lyrica which was created for diabetic neuropathy. It works, it takes a while for it to build up in your system tho, so that it works.
620048 tn?1358018235 I have had problems with my right arm for quite awhile, pain that came and went but recently it was more painful and didn't go away..since my pneumonia my other arm has pain too and woke up this moning with my legs hurting. Its very annoying and I dont need something else keeping me from the good quaility of life that is so deserve..LOL Anyway, I need to see my MS Dr. but just making an appt is not easy and she is 3 hrs away.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your info on how Trileptal works for Tregeminal Neuralgia. I would be interested to see how it works with other people as well, in place of Carbamazapine and Gabapentin so I have some ammunition when I see my neurologist. I don't think Gabapentin is doing much if anything for me, I am currently taking 2700 mg per day in addition to Carbamazapine.
1660929 tn?1319758789 I take Depakote (for migraine nothing else worked for me) Trileptal (for my other Nerve pain), Zanaflex (for spasms) and Butrans (a pain patch). Since the pain patch I have been able to reduce all other medications by half and I take the lowest dose of it. Now that the pain is better regulated I can exercise more which make the pain better as well. Yesterday at a talk I found a new stretch to help a muscle which causes pain down my leg. They can also do other things to help pain.
Avatar n tn I did feel like I was getting a little pain relief while on the Trileptal. Just hoping Tegretol works for me. Want to get out of this constant pain so I can get back to doing the everyday things I used to enjoy.
Avatar f tn Yes, I have used for TN and simultaneous leg pain. It works well with few side effects (drowsy at first which resolves with use).
485259 tn?1519047026 New research for neuropathic pain. This video interview with Dr. Allan Basbaum discusses the possibility of replacing damaged Gabba cells with new functioning ones, thus virtually eliminating neuropathic pain. This video also provides a good explanation of the different types of pain: acute/chronic/inflammatory/ and neuropathic as well as Trigeminal Neuralgia. Hopeful and informative. http://www.facingfacialpain.org/index.php?
1108262 tn?1273179266 DOES ANY ONE TAKE TRILEPTAL FOR BIPOLAR ??? IF SO HOW MUCH AND FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING IT??

Neuronal dysfunction is a prerequisite of neuropathic pain, but it is unclear how the degree of structural and functional neuronal impairment is linked to the intensity of neuropathic pain. What does this study add?
645390 tn?1338555377 He told me to take the Trileptal 2 x per day and see if that helps. He said it is a pill for nerve pain and lets try increasing the dose. I am to call back either way tomorrow and let them know if it is better. I told the PA about my PCP thinking it has been shingles when this has happened in the past, but shingles never happened. I asked her what it is, she doesn't know, but said she has heard this complaint in the past by other patients. So, does it matter what the source of the pain is?
Avatar f tn Hi martint1955, First, I want to welcome you to the PM (Pain Management) Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues. I'm sorry that you are having trouble finding a Doctor to prescribe what you think you need for your pain. From everything that I've read on the patch it is the very same medication that Suboxone is.
